The Demon #1 by James Harren and Dave Stewart. Cover by Harren. Variant covers by (2) Daniel Warren Johnson, (3) Michael Walsh, (4) Hayden Sherman and (5) John McCrea. Out in October.
"The world is infested with a darkness it cannot see. Beasts from Hell feast on humanity's soul. Enter: Jason Blood. A man alive too long. Witness to centuries of Hell's victories. A wanderer with a shattered mind and a split soul. Following the mute face — a lost wizard — tortured by a voice from Hell, can Jason Blood protect our world and save his soul? Will the Demon Etrigan rise again? Superstar writer/artist James Harren creates a brand-new epic starring the mightiest demon of them all!"
The Demon variants by Daniel Warren Johnson and Hayden Sherman
I need to read comics with Jason Blood, just so I can feel better rewriting his character and throwing away the weird shit DC did.
Like, he shouldn't be named Jason. That name only appeared in Great Britain during the Renaissance, and he is supposed to be a knight of King Arthur. And because the Arthurian legends are welsh, he should have a welsh first name. Idc how many time I said it, I will say it again, he should have a welsh name. Blood works because last names are pretty recent, and I can see him gaining a nickname associated to blood because he is seen as a witch living cut from everyone else, and that is weirdly covered in blood way too often the few times he is seen (Etrigan killed something and when Jason comes back, he is still covered in the blood). Or a nickname to refer to his transformation, because "blood" etymologically means "that which bursts out", so referring to the demon "bursting out" of the man. A name born from rumors, based on some actual accounts that weren't always believed (and when they were, he had to flee) Well, maybe change it to an archaic form, like Bloode or Blod, but still, it's fine. However Jason has to go. Yeah, I'm throwing away his name.
The rhymes he say to become Etrigan should also be in welsh, as Merlin would not have used the language of their enemies (because the anglo-saxons were the enemies Arthur was fighting, he is a welsh king fighting against the colonization of his kingdom) I just would made him way more welsh and celtic. He is a relic of a past civilization and culture that has been erased by history (celtic and welsh cultures still exist but they have been deeply erased by imperialism and colonialism and suffered greatly)
The Demon
I am intrigued by this one, I have to admit I have never actually read anything with Jason Blood and Etrigan and I only really know the characters from the DCAU & DCAMU, so it'll be cool to see what the comic versions are like.
James Harren is doing both writing and art.
