Jiraiya x Short!Reader Relationship Headcanons

💕Jiraiya is 6′2 almost 6′3. I knew he was töll but I didn’t know he was that TÖLL. Interesting.

💕Yeah, Jiraiya lives for some bant

💕Now, Jiraiya is by no means old. 50s is hardly old. But nonetheless he’s seen a lot of shit

💕He tries very hard to cope using vices and humor. He often puts on a goofy persona around others and he doesn’t always execute it in the way, say, Might Guy does

💕Jiraiya is picking on your height but it actually has a function for the both of you

💕Likely, it’s a recurring thing. It establishes a rather harmless connection but it’s also light enough of a topic to lighten the mood

💕The shinobi world is dark, let’s not forget that

💕You’re going into a mission and you’re not sure if you’re going to make it out alive. Jiraiya is team leader back in the old days and he says something reassuring before calling you “short-stuff”

💕That’s not a joke for a joke’s sake. Sure, it’s light hearted and breaks through the tension, but it’s all about 

💕C O N N E C T I O N

💕Jiraiya has broken through acquaintanceship with a little goofiness and a dumb joke, but it reminds you that he’s there, that you have someone close to you in a time of anxiety

💕That’s his brand of reassurance. It’s subtle, but isn’t all shinobi stuff?

💕He’s assuring you in a matter of words that he’s going to take care of you

💕Doesn’t ”We’re gonna be right and right out, m’kay, Pip Squeak?” sound a lot more reassuring than “Quick mission, in and out.”?

💕He does it often enough to ingrain in your head, but not too often to get really annoying

💕Nicknames and inside jokes are a good way to jumpstart relationships. Jiraiya chose an innocent and obvious trait. At his age it just comes off as dad humor, but it’s actually really sneaky
