Summer camp AU, part 29!!
Ignore - @jegulus-microfic - words: 395
Why was his hair so messy yet so very perfect in Regulus' eyes? Why did he feel like a knot was strangling his stomach when he saw James' mesmerising irises pin on him for a second too long? Someone should answer these questions, because Regulus is ever so gone with this boy, it's embarrassing.
Apparently it's been obvious since the start, the way that he could rant for hours just about how James looked at him that day. Or the way he would claim to hate the brunette, yet his friends would ring him up just to hear James' voice answer the call because Regulus had fallen asleep on him again.
Over and over again, these things happened like his life was stuck in some sort of bittersweet loop. He was always so close to James, but he never seemed to be close enough. The temptation to close that gap and finally feel the full purpose of his heart bloom was beginning to fill him up from head to toe and swallow him whole in the sweet guilt, flushing worry and the quiet uncertainness that was this exact situation.
Soft giggles and ear wrenching cackles broke out around him, he felt a hand on his shoulder as the cackles - Barty no doubt - grew louder. "Did you hear any of that?" Barty snorted.
"I- yeah." He replied swiftly.
Pandora pursed her lips, covering a not so hidden smile. "He was just teasing, ignore him." She glared at Barty, the smirk even more visible as she held in her laugh.
With a shake of his head, Barty pointed his middle finger at Pandora and slid further into Evan's arms, who was watching with an amused expression while he and Dorcas sat in silence - sharing a look every few moments - it was like they had telepathy.
"No, Barty. I'm not dating James."
"I don't fucking know!" He groaned, tucking his head into his knees and letting out a once long held breath.
He could feel four pairs of eyes on him, some pitying, some exasperated, some amused and more pity. He didn't want their pity, he'll sort this out himself, no really - he will. At some point that is, something has to happen, those bubbling, loving, sickening, sour tasting feelings rising up his body don't seem like they want to stay much longer.
