You regretted agreeing to come. The bleachers were packed with people wrapped in your uni colors, the air had this terrible smell of grass mixed with sweat. Every time the crowd erupted into cheers after the cheerleader team did whatever, you flinched a little in your seat. Beside you, a group of girls were enthusiastically discussing the players.
“Itadori’s definitely scoring today.”
“He always does.”
You shrank a little further into your jacket because unfortunately for your rapidly increasing heart rate, you weren’t just watching Itadori. You were dating him. After finding each other in the library for a month straight, he began to talk to you, asking you about book recommendations and even help with some of his literature assignments. You said no the first ten times he asked you out because you were convinced that it was a bet. But when he showed up one morning to your dorm, with a bouquet of your favorite flowers and a handwritten letter declaring his love, you thought that maybe he had a little crush on you.
Fast forward eight months into dating, he’s still as whipped as the first time and you were less shy about being in a relationship with him.
Before leaving that morning, you had grabbed the sleeve of his jacket while he was halfway out the door. “Yuuji.”
“Hm?” He looked back at you, he always smiles when looking at you.
“Promise you won’t do anything embarrassing?” You tugged his jacket harder, making him closer to you.
“Define embarrassing.”
“Yuuji.”
He laughed at the look on your face and leaned down to be at your eye level. “Okay, okay! Promise.”
“You mean it?”
“I mean it.” Then he’d kissed your forehead and grinned, taking your hand and pulling you out of your dorm.
You should’ve known better. Because Yuuji Itadori, captain of the rugby team and human embodiment of enthusiasm had never once understood the concept of subtlety. You even sat in the front rows because he’d insisted.
“So you can actually see me!” he’d said excitedly.
And now you could, unfortunately, see him very well. He looked completely different on the field, he was focused and fast, his pink hair was damp with sweat and jersey sticking to his back as he darted between players. Every time he laughed with a teammate after a successful play, the sound somehow carried all the way to where you sat. This doesn’t look like your boyfriend at all, you’d seen him study with his tongue poking out in concentration, seen him cry during movies, seen him carrying grocery bags while rambling about which ice cream flavor was his favorite.
But this version of him made your stomach flutter.
The game picked up speed after halftime, the score tight enough that every tackle made the whole crowd hold its breath. You kept your hands tucked in your sleeves, trying to look calm even as your eyes followed Yuuji everywhere.
Then it happened. A perfect pass, a quick fake and Yuuji broke through the line like it was nothing. He powered forward, dodging one last defender before slamming the ball down for the points. The stands exploded around you, cheers and applause filling your ears. You were smiling despite yourself, Yuuji looked so happy about it.
Then his eyes started scanning the stands, looking for you. He found you and your smile faded. Absolutely not. But it was too late, he pointed at you and at the top of his lungs, he screamed:
“THAT WAS FOR MY GIRLFRIEND.”
Your whole face burned, heads turned your way from every direction, whispers rippled through the crowd and the girls next to you started giggling and nudging each other. You wanted the ground to open up and swallow you whole.
Yuuji was already jogging over, helmet tucked under his arm, big sunny grin on his face like he had not just yelled your business to the entire stadium. He hopped the barrier and stopped right in front of your seat, breathing hard and looking way too proud of himself.
“Yuuji!” you hissed, standing up so you could at least try to glare at him properly. Your voice came out all squeaky and embarrassed. “I can’t believe you, I literally asked you not to do anything like this. You promised!” You reached out and smacked his arm, not hard at all but enough to make your point. “I’m never coming to another game, I swear.”
He just laughed, soft and warm, eyes crinkling at the corners. You kept going, words tumbling out faster because your heart would not slow down. “I told you this morning, I said no embarrassing stuff and you said okay and then you go and scream it like that? I really should—”
Yuuji leaned in mid-ramble and kissed you. It was gentle but sure, cutting off your scolding was the easiest thing in the world. His lips were warm from running around the field, for a second you forgot how to be mad. When he pulled back just enough to look you deep into your eyes, he whispered, “I love you.”
Your brain short-circuited, the warmth spreading from your cheeks down to your chest. You couldn’t even look him in the eye anymore, so you stared at the grass stains on his jersey instead, fingers twisting in the hem of your jacket. “Yuuji..” you mumbled, voice tiny.
He chuckled and gave your hand a quick squeeze. “Couldn’t help it, had to tell everyone who I’m out here playing for. You’re my good luck charm.”
You gave his arm one last half-hearted tap, but there was no real heat behind it. “You’re impossible,” you muttered.
“But I’m yours,” he said happily, pressing one more quick kiss to your forehead. “Watch me finish this, okay? I’ll be good from now on. Promise.”
He flashed you his bright smile again before jogging back to the field. You sank back into your seat, hiding half your face in your hands while the girls beside you whispered how cute it was.
The apartment is quiet when you wake up, sunlight barely slipping through the curtains. For a second, it feels like you’re alone, until an arm tightens around your waist, pulling you back into warmth.
“Stay,” he mumble, voice still thick with sleep, face tucked into your shoulder.
You let out a soft laugh, trying to shift. “I was just going to get water.”
A quiet unconvinced hum sounded out as his grip adjusts, not tight, just enough to keep you there, like leaving isn’t an option for you.
“…You can go later.”
You turn slightly, catching a glimpse of his hair messy, expression soft in a way he'd never show anyone else. No walls, no tension. Just this.
“Clingy,” you whisper.
“Only with you.”
That does something to your chest.
You sigh, acting annoyed, but still melted right back into his arms anyway, fingers loosely curling into his sleeve. “Fine. Five more minutes.”
yuuji itadori and naruto uzumaki are too big and too clingy for your own good ˚.✦
You regret the moment you told your boyfriends that you run cold because now, every time you three cuddle together they just flop on top of you, four big ass arms wrapping around your body, their whole weight resting on yours and they fill your face with kisses and bites.
“I’m going to die,” you say, barely above a whisper because Naruto’s face is pressed right into your lungs as Yuuji is biting your cheek. “Please God, what did I do?” You look up, sighing while Naruto and Yuuji just burst out laughing. It’s so easy to make them laugh or blush with just a few words from you.
Naruto lifts his head just enough so his bright blue eyes can sparkle down at you, his grin spreading across his face like sunshine. His blond hair is all messy from rubbing against your shirt and he looks so stupidly happy it makes your heart do a little flip even while you’re being squished.
“Aw, c’mon babe, you’re not dying! You’re just getting the best heating system ever,” he says, he nuzzles back into your neck, leaving a trail of soft little kisses that tickle. “We’re just doing our boyfriend duty. Right, Yuu?”
Yuuji hums happily against your cheek, his teeth giving one last gentle nibble before he switches to peppering the spot with tiny kisses instead. His pink hair brushes your skin, and he smells like the strawberry candy he stole from your kitchen earlier. “Totally,” he mumbles, voice muffled because he refuses to pull away even an inch. “We’re keeping you warm. Super warm. The warmest. Can’t have our favorite person turning into an ice cube.”
You try to wiggle, but it’s hopeless. Two six-foot-something boyfriends are basically pressing you on the couch until you become one, and they’re way too strong for their own good. Or yours.
“You guys are too big,” you whine, but it comes out all soft and smiley because how can you stay mad when they’re looking at you like that? “I can’t even breathe properly. Naruto, your elbow is in my rib.”
Naruto gasps like you just told him the world is ending. He shifts immediately, but only so he can wrap that arm tighter around your waist instead. “Sorry, sorry! Better?” He plants a big, loud kiss on your forehead. “You’re so cute like this, it makes me wanna hug you forever.”
Yuuji nods so fast his hair flops into his eyes. He finally lifts his head, cheeks flushed pink and that bright grin of his making his whole face light up. “Yeah… you’re tiny compared to us. It’s the best.” He leans in and presses his lips to yours in a sweet peck, then immediately goes back to kissing your cheek like he’ll die if he stops. “I love you so much it’s kinda embarrassing. Like, I see you and my brain just goes ‘mine mine mine’ on repeat.”
Naruto laughs again, filling the whole room. He rests his chin on your shoulder so he can look at both of you. “Same! Every time you smile at me I feel like I’m gonna explode. You’re too perfect, you know that?” He sneaks in a little bite to your earlobe, gentle enough not to hurt but enough to make you squeak. “My cute little human heater. Wait, no, we’re the heaters. You’re the cute one.”
You can’t help it. A giggle bubbles up even as you’re still trapped under all that muscle and affection. “You two are so whipped,” you mutter, reaching up to thread your fingers through Naruto’s messy hair. He leans into your touch like a big puppy, eyes half-closing in pure bliss.
“Guilty,” Yuuji says without a single ounce of shame. He catches your other hand and brings it to his lips, kissing your knuckles one by one. “I’d carry you around all day if you let me. Just so I can keep you close.”
Naruto nods eagerly. “We could take turns. Or both carry you at the same time. Bet we could make it work.”
You groan, but you’re smiling so wide your cheeks hurt. “You’re impossible. Both of you.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Naruto agrees, voice going all soft and fond as he presses another kiss to your temple. “But you love us anyway.”
Yuuji snuggles even closer, if that’s possible, his big hand rubbing slow circles on your side. “And we love you more than anything. So just let us squish you a little longer, okay? For warmth. And because you’re our favorite person in the whole world.”
You sigh again, but this time it’s happy. The weight of them is heavy, sure, but it’s also safe and warm and full of so much love it feels like your chest might burst. “Fine, fine.”
a/n: the target audience for this is me, literally just me
You wake up smelling the antiseptics and seeing the bright lights of the infirmary. It takes you a full minute to understand where are you and recall what happened to end up there. That's when you feel a heavy weight on your legs, sitting up slightly you catch a sight of your pink haired boyfriend using your legs as a pillow. His eyebrows are furrowed and lips tight, it doesn't look like he's resting at all, more like using his broad frame to protect you while he tries to sleep.
"He's been here all day," Shoko says, appearing in the door. "Even after I told him that you'd be fine, he wanted to be here when you wake up."
You smile softly despite the dull ache pulsing through your side where the curse’s claws had torn through you. The sight of Yuuji (exhausted, stubborn, still trying to shield you even in sleep) makes your chest feel too full.
Carefully, so you don’t startle him, you lift one hand and thread your fingers through his muted pink hair. The strands are soft, still a little sweaty from the mission and the hours spent worrying. You scratch gently at his scalp the way you know he secretly loves, slow and soothing, tracing little circles behind his ear.
Yuji makes a small, sleepy sound and nuzzles closer to your thigh before his lashes flutter. His eyes crack open, honey-brown and bleary, then widen the second they land on your face.
“You’re awake,” he breathes, voice rough from disuse. He jerks upright so fast you’re worried he’ll give himself whiplash, one hand immediately shooting out to hover over your bandaged ribs like he’s afraid touching you will break something. “Shit, does it hurt? Are you okay? Shoko said you lost a lot of blood, I should’ve been faster, I should’ve—”
“Hey.” You catch his wrist before he can spiral further, guiding his palm to rest gently against your cheek instead. His hand is warm, trembling just slightly. “I’m okay, Yuu. Look at me. I’m right here.”
His gaze darts over you like he’s cataloguing every bandage, every bruise. The guilt carved into his expression is so raw it hurts more than the stitches.
“It was my fault,” he whispers. “I saw it going for you and I froze for half a second and you got hurt because of me—”
You turn your head and press a slow kiss to the center of his palm. “Stop.”
He swallows hard, eyes glassy.
“You didn’t freeze because you’re weak,” you murmur. “You froze because you were terrified of losing me. That’s not failure, that’s love.” Your thumb strokes over his knuckles. “And I’m still here. Because you carried me out. You didn’t let go once.”
A shaky breath leaves him. He leans forward until his forehead rests against yours, noses brushing, close enough that you can feel the heat radiating off him.
“I was so scared,” he admits, voice cracking on the last word. “I kept thinking, what if you didn’t wake up? What if I had to go back to the dorms and your side of the bed was empty forever? I can’t do that. I can’t lose you.”
“You won’t.” You slide your fingers into his hair again, cradling the back of his head. “I’m not going anywhere. Promise.”
He lets out a watery little laugh that’s mostly relief, then closes the last centimeter between you. The kiss is soft, like he’s afraid you’ll vanish if he presses too hard. You taste salt on his lips and realize he’s crying, quiet and steady, the way he only ever does when he thinks no one’s watching.
You kiss him back just as gently, letting him feel that you’re solid, breathing, here. When you finally pull apart he doesn’t go far, he stays with his forehead pressed to yours, breathing you in like you’re oxygen after drowning.
“I love you,” he whispers, the words spilling out like they’ve been waiting behind his teeth for hours. “So much it scares me sometimes.”
Your heart squeezes. You brush the tears from under his eye with your thumb.
“I love you too, idiot,” you say fondly. “Even when you try to use yourself as a human shield for me in your sleep.”
That gets a sheepish grin out of him. He glances down at where his head had been pillowed on your lap, cheeks going pink.
“Was I… crushing you?”
“A little. But it was nice.” You pat the space beside you on the narrow infirmary bed. “C’mere. There’s room if we squish.”
He hesitates only long enough to kick off his shoes, then carefully climbs up beside you, mindful of every wire and bandage. Once he’s settled he immediately tucks himself against your good side, face buried in the crook of your neck, one arm slung protectively across your waist.
“You’re not allowed to get hurt again,” he mumbles into your skin. “My heart can’t take it.”
You huff a quiet laugh, fingers resuming their gentle scratching through his hair. “Only if you promise to stop blaming yourself for things that aren’t your fault.”
“…I’ll try.”
“That’s all I ask.”
He presses the softest kiss to your collarbone, right above the edge of the bandage, like he’s apologizing to the wound itself. Then he just stays there, breathing slow and deep, letting the warmth of your body finally convince him that you’re really okay.
You keep carding through his hair until his breathing evens out again—not fully asleep, just resting, finally letting himself relax now that he can feel your heartbeat under his cheek.
Shoko peeks in once, sees the two of you tangled together like that, and silently closes the door with the smallest smile before she leaves you alone.
ʚ ✉️ ⋆˚࿔ yuji has been waiting an eternity to play the role of super awesome supportive boyfriend when you’re on your period, but unfortunately for him, you’re not the best at staying on script.
ᝰ . itadori × reader ⌇ word count: 1.7K
itadori yuji loved to be needed by you.
it was the reason why when his phone vibrated, displaying your message of “raincheck? just got my period bleh :/” he immediately ditched megumi and nobara in favor of you, tossing a fleeting “sorry guys, boyfriend duties.” over his shoulder as he made a beeline straight for the nearest corner store.
the front door to your apartment clicked open, the rustle of plastic bags breaking the otherwise silence.
“baby, i’m here! i came as soon as—” the words died on his tongue when he finally caught sight of you. you, acting completely normal and finishing up with washing some dirty dishes. he cocked his head as a confused golden retriever would, the corners of his lips tugging downwards, dispirited.
the plastic bags spilled from his arms and onto the dining table clumsily—bags that were filled with all of your favorites. snacks, drinks, a little stuffed toy that reminded him of you, and even that one particular hoodie that you always found yourself stealing from him.
yuji often fantasized about being your knight in shining armor; his mind just couldn’t help but conjure up all sorts of scenarios in which he saved you heroically. whether that be from a super outrageous situation or something as mundane as the common cold.
he had thought about this specific scenario more than he would have liked to admit. he had thought about holding you so tightly, of you burying your face into his neck when your cramps got to be too much, of him rubbing soothing circles into your skin to help alleviate the pain. he was even packed with a full arsenal of knowledge about home remedies and what foods to avoid. itadori yuji had thought of everything.
when he walked in, he had expected to find you curled up in bed beneath the covers. to which he would have climbed in next to you, whispering that he was there to make it all better (corny, he knows). yet, there you were, standing in the kitchen as though you were completely fine.
“hey…” he pouted, visibly deflated. “i thought girls typically cramped and stuff. kugisaki said so.” his voice was low, the betrayal and disappointment beginning to cloud his eyes.
turning to him, you wiped your hands with a dish towel, eyebrows knitted in confusion. “well, i mean, yeah, but they’re not too bad right now.”
your boyfriend sank to his knees, the tile cold even through the fabric of his pants. all he had wanted to do was to impress you with his innate boyfriend abilities, but all he wanted to do in that moment instead was crawl into a hole and hide.
you chuckled at his dramatics. “yuj, you’re too good to me.” you were unable to hide the small smile that crept its way onto your lips. kneeling down with him, you wrapped your arms around his frame, placing a quick peck to the corner of his mouth. “my sweet, sweet boyfriend,” you cooed, pulling away just enough to pat his cheek lovingly. “let’s go watch a movie, yeah?”
—
his eyes burned into your skull as you curled up on the couch with him. you shifted stiffly under his gaze, wondering what could possibly be going on in that brain of his. were you acting weird? did he know something you didn’t? was he plotting something, and should you be on guard? you scrunched your nose at all the possibilities, the action only causing him to lean in closer, anticipating.
“what’s wrong? anything yet?” he blurted, hovering over your body and inspecting every inch of you with his eyes. “how ‘bout now?”
you shook your head, pushing him off of you and laughing at his eagerness to serve you. it was odd, but there was also something endearing about the fact that he wanted to take care of you, of how he wanted to prove how good of a boyfriend he was.
“c’mon, babe, won’t you throw a poor guy a bone?” he whined and threw his head back against the cushions, body limp and beginning to slouch.
truly, you were feeling better than was typical for you; your body had decided to be kind this time around and kept your symptoms minimal and tolerable. but yuji didn’t know that, perhaps it would be best if you played along for just a bit without being too obvious.
“y’know, a nice cold drink sounds good right about now,” you said, tapping a finger pensively against your chin.
yuji perked up at your words, eyes lighting up with the utmost elation. “on it!” he saluted you before darting into the kitchen to dig through his corner store haul. not even two seconds later, he returned with two cans of your favorite soda, still ice cold despite them having been left on the table.
you thanked him with yet another kiss on the cheek, grabbing the can from his hands before returning your attention back to the movie on screen. somehow, you two had ended up agreeing on the longest series known to mankind, and somewhere in between the second and third movie the bright colors and rapid changing scenery had begun to make your head buzz.
that in combination with the strong vanilla candle burning on the mantle and your heightened sensitivity wasn’t the most ideal combination. the seed of a migraine had been planted and it would only go downhill from there, that much you knew. it wouldn’t be much longer before your body fully succumbed to the pain, but you also didn’t want to be a party pooper and bail out on yuji either. he was completely engrossed in the action, reacting to every scene and dramatic line.
you allowed your eyes to flutter closed, pressing the cold can of soda against your forehead in hopes of mild relief—no matter how short-lived.
what you had tried your best to make seem a casual, discreet act piqued your boyfriend’s interest. the thing about yuji was that when it came to you, he was observant and receptive. he took notice of all the subtleties—how you closed your eyes when there was a particularly bright flash, the way you kept your nose covered with the blanket, and the way you used your cold drink as a makeshift ice pack.
getting up from his seat, he extinguished the candle, placing it as far away from you as possible before clicking the television off, all while mumbling something about how that one in particular was the most boring of the series and he was tired of watching it. in truth, he wasn’t actually bored of it, but he’d never admit that to you.
when he did so, he couldn’t help but note the relieved, yet confused, look on your face. the blanket dropped from your hold and eyelids slowly fluttered open at the absence of the bright lights.
“you okay?” he knelt in front of you, the back of his hand resting on your forehead to check for fever.
you nodded, eyes closing once more. “mhm,” you hummed and leaned into his touch as his hand drifted from your forehead down to cup your cheek, his thumb rubbing gently at your cheekbone.
“i’ll be right back,” he whispered, lips finding their way to your forehead.
you listened as his footsteps faded away into the other room—the kitchen most likely—until the sound of his steps grew closer and once again he was kneeling before you. this time, however, with a glass of water and a small bottle of your preferred painkillers.
sitting up—hair disheveled and all—you took the pills, chasing them down with the glass of cold water. you had barely set the glass down when yuji hooked his arms underneath your legs and carried you into the bedroom. the bedroom where he had unmade the bed and drew all the curtains shut so it was as dark and comfortable as possible.
“just call if you need me, okay?”
you lied still as he walked out, not daring to move a muscle until you were able to hear him rustling around in the living room, cleaning up after all the snack wrappers and whatnot. your head went dizzy the moment you stood, but you did your best to power through and stumbled your way through the creaking door and into the hallway.
“yuj…?” you called out softly.
the rustling ceased. “hey, baby, what’s up?” he poked his head into the hallway where he caught you standing with a blanket around your shoulders.
“get in here and cuddle with me.”
a boyish grin that quickly evolved into a full-fledged cheshire cat smile stretched its way onto his lips. he didn’t waste a moment more, his body moving of its own volition, arms briskly sweeping you off your feet—as gently as he could muster so as to not aggravate your delicate state—before taking you back to bed.
his arms were strong around you as he shifted to fit himself against your body, chests pressed together and legs intertwined, before cocooning the both of you beneath the covers. his head dipped low, his lips finding purchase on your bare shoulder where the warmth seemed to seep straight through his lips and into his veins.
lacing your fingers with his, you brought his hand up to cradle the back of your head. you didn’t have to say anything for him to catch on, he immediately knew what you wanted and he would gladly give it to you. with his fingers massaging your scalp, you allowed yourself to relax under his touch, a small sigh slipping its way past your lips.
somewhere between yuji’s light touches and the painkillers taking effect, you found yourself nuzzling deeper into the cotton of his t-shirt, the smell of his detergent mixed with his natural scent making your eyelids heavy and lulling you in and out of consciousness.
“i got you,” he murmured, chin resting atop your head and arms pulling you in impossibly closer, his fingers never once daring to stop their caressing.
and though you were in pain and he hated that, a small, teeny tiny, little part of him was content enough with the fact that he got to fulfill some of his long anticipated boyfriend duties. even if not everything had played out the way he had originally imagined.
He blinks down at his only nephew, brows furrowed as he tried to translate the baby talk in his head. Just across the room, Choso sat in the recliner, both girls in his lap.
While they were cautious about their uncle, their brother deemed it necessary to interrogate him to deem him safe. You know, for safety reasons. Yuuji scratches at the head.
"Uh," His eyes dart towards Choso for help, begging. His begging goes ignored, his older brother slouched lazily, eyes closed as the girls squirm in his arms and play with his hair.
Thankfully, his sister-in-law spoke, head poking in comically. "Dinosaur, Yuu." He nods with a hum, smiling in thanks before turning back to his serious(ly cute) nephew.
"Well, some of them are pretty cool. But some can be a little scary. Ooh, like a T-Rex! Pretty cool, but I think I'd cry if I was another dinosaur. And even if I wasn't one, they can be freaky!"
He answers the boy seriously, his hands making dramatic gestures as he ranted. The little Kamo followed the gestures, nodding slowly. When he was done, a beat of silence following.
While Yuuji falters, thinking he said something wrong, the little one was thinking of more questions to interrogate with. Yuuji turns to Choso, whose eyes are now open.
He meets his confused gaze. "... he's thinking." "Ah, right, right." Yuuji nods, turning back to his nephew. Subconsciously, he copies the boy's cute thinking stance.
He only pauses when the boy looks up at him finally. "Um... you, um," The boy squints, trying to recall how to properly speak. Just like how mama and papa show him!
"Do... Unc Yuu?" "Mm?" "Do... you... do you act nice, but not nicely really?" Yuuji blinks, trying to make sense of the question. He grimaces as he answered unsurely. "Um... no?"
The boy stares, before nodding and trotting to his sisters. "He's not nicely but nice." "How do you know?" His older sister squints, crossing her arms with a suspicious look.
The youngest out of the trio peeks down to her twin, revealing her face from where it was hidden in their papa's neck. Her twin pats her head. "'Cause. He says."
"That's a stupid excuse-!" The eldest goes to say, instantly faltering as her father's gaze darts towards her in a scolding manner. She looks away, pouting. Choso sighs.
"Watch your mouth." "Sorry." Yuuji's brows raise at the casual scolding his brother was capable of. Yuuji grins softly at the girls, a hand gently waving. "I don't mean to scare you, you know?"
Both girls eye him, staying silent. "I know I can look pretty intense, but I'm kinda just dumb really. Totally not something you need to be scared of or-"
He blinks in confusion as the kids gasp. He sort of panics as all three rush towards him, climbing up on the couch and crowding him. "No-no word, Unc."
The youngest (who claimed his lap) pouts sadly, speaking softly as her small hand pats his scarred face in consolation. Her twin nods, hands on his hips. "That's... mean, Unc Yuu."
"We don't use that word. If you do, you get a talk and a timeout. Then you can't play and have to go to sleep early." The oldest informs him with a brow raised.
How was that not common knowledge? Choso snickers at the scene, not moving to help. He even went as far as recording on his wife's phone. The said woman steps in, apologetic.
"Oh, babies, let Uncle Yuu breathe." She reminds them of their manners and personal space. She grins sheepishly at her in-law. "Sorry, Yuuji. We try to discourage them from... uh,"
She weakly gestures. "Negative wording. What I didn't know was that they were that passionate about it." Yuuji just grins and laughs as everything catches up with him.
Sending a thumbs up her way, a relaxed and genuine smile finds its way to his face. He didn't think visiting his brother's family would be so... busy, the good kind. Just what he needed.
"All good!"
They all decided that Uncle Yuuji needed to play. Why? Because he looked "sadly-faced" and they wanted to know how well he could play. Choso huffs in amusement as he's dragged outside.
"Go easy on them." "Yeah, yeah," Yuuji acknowledged but dismissed, trying to pay attention to the kid's ramblings. His wife stands off to the side, thinking.
Catching this, his gaze immediately darts towards her. "What?" She shakes her head. "Nothing bad, hun." She reassures, smiling softly as his expression relaxed at the news.
She then goes on to explain that she was shocked that their oldest didn't seem to remember Yuuji. Choso hums, thinking. He hadn't noticed until then.
The two used to be playmates, best buds. But then, Yuuji left. He went into hiding for a little while, not wanting the higher-ups on his back about every little thing. Following Gojo's footsteps.
"Hm... well, he hasn't been here since she was about 3." His wife pauses, looking out to the backyard. The kids laugh at Yuuji as he struggled to tie a flag to a makeshift post.
Probably a game of pirates. Yuuji looks genuinely concentrated, huffing when it took longer than expected. Their son pats his knee in comfort. "Slow moves are good, Unc Yuu."
Yuuji stares down at the boy, then turning to the girls. At their innocent gazes and supportive smiles, he couldn't help but to shakily smile back. "Right... thanks."
"Has it been that long?" Choso nods, standing up when seeing her concerned face. He cups her hips, placing a kiss on her temple. "He's fine. Doing better." "No, Cho. Now I'm worried."
She frets to her husband, hands fidgeting over her heart. "Darling-" "Cho, I don't want him to be alone anymore. There are no more wars, no more stupid fights to handle-"
Choso shushes her gently, pecking at her hairline. "Take a breath." A hand goes to lay on her stomach. She clutches onto his forearm. "Yuuji always fights for people,"
Choso starts, his eyes joining his wife's as they watch their family outside. Yuuji finally ties the flag to the post, the children clapping in congratulations. Yuuji sheepishly giggles.
"It's concerning, annoying... but, that's who he is." He sighs, turning to her. "But he's back... we have the time to make sure he's okay. Right now, let him have this."
He turns back to the scene outside. Yuuji and his son were the pirates, bartering with his eldest "princess" for goods (plastic food and coins). His youngest holds a "treaty" (a leaf), patient.
"I have a feeling that this is the first time in a while where he's breathing." At his wife's distressed looking, he panics and backtracks. "I meant deeply! Like, relaxing!"
The four eventually come inside for dinner, Choso on bath duty. Yuuji sits at the dinner table, watching his in-law fret over bowls and cutlery. He'd help, but he got glared at.
Scary, in his opinion. And so, there they were. A small family dinner, but family nonetheless. The children bombarded their uncle with questions, eyes curious and wide.
"Why do you only have three fingers-" Mortified, Choso's wife goes to gently scold her youngest when Yuuji just grins. "I fought this huuge battle! I won, obviously." The tiny girl frowns in concern.
"... owie?" "Uh, yeah. It hurt for a little bit. But, I'm pretty tough." Yuuji grins crookedly, Choso's wife smiling and ruffling his pink hair. "You are. And we're glad that you're here, Yuu."
He smiles back, eyes glossy. "Yeah... me too," Choso eyes his brother, gaze soft. He speaks up, smiling. "I think the both of us are relieved. Man, that whole thing sucked-"
This distracts their children, who all scold their father. "No-no word, papa." "Papa! No!" "Why would you say that, papa! You can't break the rules-" Yuuji simply laughs at the sight, relieved.
You left your boyfriend alone for two minutes, the time it took you to go pee and look at yourself in the mirror, and when you come back to the bed in your dorm, he has your whole photo album opened and flicking through the pages.
"What are you even doing?" you say, arching your brows. "Did I let you mess around my things?"
He lifts his head fast, smiling at you instantly. He's always smiling so much, it pisses you off how much you love that smile.
"I'm sorry, sweets!" he says without bothering to sound like he means it. "I just saw it in your side table and got curious."
You cross your arms, leaning against the doorframe like you’re trying to look intimidating even though you’re still in your stupid oversized sleep shirt and fuzzy socks.
“Right. So curious you decided to violate my privacy in under ninety seconds. Impressive, really.” you deadpan.
Yuuji’s grin only gets wider, completely unbothered. He pats the bed beside him like you’re a feral cat he’s trying to coax over.
“C’mon, don’t be mad. Look at this—” He turns the album toward you, open to the page with the infamous strawberry dress picture.
You’re maybe three? Four? Chubby cheeks, pigtails sticking out at weird angles, strawberry stains on the white fabric, and the most serious little pout ever captured on camera. You look like a very angry, very small fruit.
He makes this strangled noise in the back of his throat, something between a squeak and a groan, and presses both hands to his cheeks.
“Baby. Baby. Look at your tiny hands. Look at the little socks with the ruffles. Oh my god, why are you so—” He cuts himself off, practically vibrating. “I can’t. I’m gonna die. I’m actually gonna combust.”
You snatch for the album. He yanks it back, laughing that stupid laugh that makes your stomach do embarrassing cartwheels even when you’re trying to be furious.
“Give it back, idiot.”
“No way. This is a national treasure.” He flips the page again. Now it’s you at five, wearing your dad’s massive firefighter helmet, the thing practically swallowing your whole head. You’re giving the camera the finger with both hands. “Holy shit. Even at five you were already like this. I love you so much it hurts.”
“Stop talking.”
“I can’t. Your cheeks were so round I wanna bite them.” He mimes chomping the air. “C’mere, lemme squish ’em.”
You lunge. He dodges, rolling across the bed with the album hugged to his chest like it’s his newborn child. You end up straddling his waist trying to pry his arms open, swearing under your breath.
“You’re so embarrassing. Let go, Yuuji, I swear to god!”
“Nope.” He’s grinning up at you, eyes sparkling like he just won the lottery. “This is the best day of my life. You were so cute. You still are, but the baby version? Criminal levels of cute. I’m calling the police on tiny you.”
You finally manage to wrench one corner of the album free. A loose photo flutters out and lands on his chest.
It’s the worst one.
You, maybe six, mid-scream, covered head to toe in flour because you “wanted to help” your mom bake. There’s flour in your eyelashes. Your mouth is open so wide you look like a baby pterodactyl. And somehow you’re still making the most ridiculous, adorable, pissed-off face imaginable.
Yuuji inhales so sharply you think he’s actually choking.
“Oh no,” he whispers, reverent. “Oh no no no. This is it. This is the one. This is going on my phonecase. This is going in my wallet. This is getting tattooed on my—”
You slap your hand over his mouth.
“Do not finish that sentence.”
He licks your palm.
You yank your hand back with a disgusted noise. “You’re disgusting.”
“You love me,” he sing-songs through your fingers.
“I’m gonna smother you with this pillow.”
“Worth it for the baby pics.”
You glare down at him, cheeks burning. You hate that he can see it. You hate that he knows exactly how much his dumb, over-the-top reaction is getting to you. You hate that part of you wants to crawl under the blanket and die of embarrassment while the other part wants to kiss his stupid smiling mouth until neither of you can breathe.
He takes advantage of your momentary freeze to sit up, still holding you in his lap, and carefully plucks the cake-batter picture from between you.
“I’m showing this to Gojo-sensei,” he announces cheerfully.
Your soul leaves your body.
“You’re what.”
“Just this one! The rest are too precious, I’m keeping them for myself—”
You scramble off him so fast you almost fall off the bed. “Yuuji. Yuuji, no. Give me the picture. Give it back now.”
He’s already on his feet, photo held high above his head, jogging backward toward the door while you chase him like a rabid raccoon.
“Too late, sweets! He’s gonna love it! He’s gonna frame it! He’s gonna call you ‘little flour gremlin’ for the rest of your life!”
“Stop!”
You tackle him in the hallway. He lets you, because of course he does, but he still keeps the photo just out of reach, laughing so hard his whole body shakes.
The door to the common room is already open.
Gojo’s voice floats out first. “What’s with all the screaming? You two fighting over snacks again?”
Yuuji spins, holding the picture up like a trophy. “Sensei! Sensei, look! Look at her! She was a tiny angry chef!”
You freeze in horror as every head in the room turns.
Nobara’s eyes light up like she’s just been handed free designer bags. Megumi sighs so deeply it sounds painful.
Gojo leans forward and then he lets out the most delighted cackle you’ve ever heard.
“Oh my god,” he wheezes, snatching the photo from Yuuji’s hand. “You've had your frown all your life! That's insane, Y/N.”
You cover your face with both hands. “I’m moving to another country. I’m changing my name. I’m faking my death.”
Yuuji wraps both arms around you from behind, chin hooked over your shoulder, still laughing against your neck. “You’re not going anywhere. You’re staying right here so I can keep looking at baby you forever.”
You elbow him in the ribs.
He only squeezes tighter.
“Love you,” he whispers, so soft only you can hear it, even though everyone in the room is still losing their minds over your six-year-old war crimes.
You groan, long and dramatic, but you don’t actually try to get away.
“Shut up,” you mutter.
He presses a quick kiss to your burning cheek. “Never.”
yuuji itadori finally has the courage to confess his feelings to you ╱ happy ending version, angst ending version ˚.✦
The rain hasn’t let up for three days straight. It hammers the school like it’s trying to drown out every unspoken thing, but today it feels less like punishment and more like the world holding its breath.
You’re on the rooftop after training, shoulders sore, uniform damp, staring out at the city blurred by silver sheets.
You came up here because Nobara shoved a note into your hand twenty minutes ago with a smirk and said, “Do it, idiot. He’s been pining like a wet puppy for months. The whole cheesy setup it’s perfect. Trust me.”
You didn’t trust her. Not completely. Yuuji’s heart is too big, too open, too easy to bruise. What if he laughs it off? What if he looks at you with his confused smile and says “huh?” and everything between you cracks?
But Nobara was insistent. “He likes you back, dummy. I’ve seen the way he lights up when you walk in. Just… give him the note. Pick the camellia. He’ll come running.”
So here you are. Nervous. Fingers cold. A single white camellia tucked in your pocket, petals already slightly crushed from how tightly you’ve been holding it. You wonder why did you pick a camellia, what girl gives a flower to a boy? It's so silly, you feel silly.
The door crashes open behind you.
“Hey!”
Footsteps. Fast. Sloppy. Someone who didn’t think before moving.
You turn just in time to see Itadori stumble out into the rain, chest heaving, soaked through like he sprinted the whole way. His uniform clings to him, hair plastered to his forehead, rain sliding down his face—but he’s smiling so wide it hurts to look at.
“I—I found you,” he says, breathless, laughing under his breath like he can’t believe it. “You really came.”
In his hand is nothing. He must’ve read the note and left it behind in his rush. His eyes are shining, pupils blown with something brighter than hope.
You swallow. “Yuuji—”
“I read it like ten times,” he says, stepping closer without hesitation. Water drips from his lashes. “I thought maybe I was hallucinating. Like maybe someone was pranking me again, but it had your name and the heart and—” He presses a hand to his chest. “God, I’ve never run so fast in my life.”
He’s close now. Close enough that you can see the way his hands tremble, the way rain mixes with the flush on his cheeks.
“I always thought I was imagining it,” he says softer. “You’re kind to everyone. I kept telling myself not to hope too hard, not to be the idiot who falls for every smile. But then the note… and I just—” His voice cracks with a laugh. “I was so happy. Like stupid happy. Like I could fight a thousand curses right now and still be grinning.”
You feel your own heart slamming against your ribs. Nobara was right. He’s not laughing it off. He’s terrified and thrilled in equal measure.
“Yuuji,” you whisper, pulling the camellia from your pocket. The petals are damp, bruised from your anxious grip, but still perfect in their quiet way.
His eyes drop to it. Then back to your face.
“For me?” he asks, voice small, like he’s afraid the answer will vanish if he speaks too loud.
You nod. Once. Then again, more sure.
"It's so pretty! Thank you so much, I'll keep it pressed between books so I can keep it forever," he takes the flower delicately, touching the petals slowly, almost cherishing it.
You take your turn to finally say something to him.
“I was scared,” you admit. “Nobara said the note was a good idea, but I didn’t know if you’d… if you’d feel the same. I thought maybe you’d think it was silly. Or too much.”
“Silly? Are you kidding?” He steps even closer, rain running down both your faces now. “I’ve been in love with you for so long I forgot what not-loving-you felt like.”
The words land gentle, but they knock the air out of you anyway.
“Almost a year,” he says quietly. “That bridge mission. You yelled at me for being reckless, then you smiled while you patched me up. No one does that. Gets mad and stays. I started noticing everything after. The way you wait for me. The way you say my name when you’re tired. I kept thinking—if I’m lucky, if I survive, maybe someday…”
He reaches out. Hesitant. His fingers brush yours.
“I love you,” he says, simple and sure, like it’s the easiest thing he’s ever told the truth about. “I love you when you’re annoyed with me, when you’re quiet, when you pretend you’re not scared. I love all the little things about you.”
His thumb strokes the back of your hand. Nervous. Warm despite the cold.
“I don’t need forever right now,” he murmurs. “I just want to try. With you. If you want.”
You look up at him and feel something inside you finally unclench.
“I want,” you whisper. “I’ve wanted for a while. I was just… scared you wouldn’t.”
His smile blooms slow, bright, like the sun finally breaking through the clouds.
Then he leans in. "Is this a good moment to kiss you?"
You blink fast, repeating the words in your head. "Yeah! Yeah, I think so."
"If you let me," he leans a little closer, brushing the strand of wet hair clinging in your lips.
"Please."
It’s soft. Careful. His lips brush yours once, like he’s memorizing the shape of this moment. You sigh against him, fingers tightening around the camellia between you. He cups your cheek with one wet hand, thumb gentle under your eye, and kisses you again. Deeper this time, but still tender. Rain mixes with the taste of him, salt, warmth and something impossibly sweet.
When you pull back, foreheads resting together, both of you are breathing hard, smiling like idiots.
“The note was Nobara’s idea,” you admit with a small laugh. “But the feelings… those are all mine.”
He grins, pressing another quick kiss to the corner of your mouth. “Remind me to thank her later. Or maybe buy her snacks for a month.”
You laugh and he wraps his arms around you, pulling you against his soaked chest. The camellia is crushed between you now, but neither of you cares.
