Me, trying to be normal... I think I did something wrong...
Chairs are just handicapped version of wheelchairs. - I said it, but pretty sure some else did it first.
I’ll Be Your Sunflower...
Now, if you have any taste in movies you will have picked up that I took a famous phrase and changed it for this post. I will tell you, it is from Tombstone where they say “I’ll Be Your Huckleberry”. Great movie. But what do sunflowers have to do with anything? Well, First of all, I LOVE SUNFLOWERS. That aside. What do I and sunflowers have in common? Well, after a trip to havasu recently....I LOOK LIKE ONE XD!
So let’s start at the beginning. I was on Facebook, the start of every great story right? And I saw this pop up:
I was like woah. Thats kind of neat. So I looked more into it and apparently it is a trend for the summer. I thought, well that makes sense. Then it hit me, I am supposed to be getting my now long hair cut soon and I color it about once a year so maybe I could do this? I put it out to my FB people and they were kind of mixed. True this is not my most radical idea but the conversative people were not big on it. So you know normal. Given my pixie cut, the below photo is more how I think it is going to look like...
Either photo looks really good. I myself would want not such a bright yellow but I take this inspiration and put it in the capable hands of Brandi! Here is how it went....but first a recap on what I had done previously before. Naturally I am a brunette. Then I went red in college, totally worth it. Then living out of state I went Black, but that is so much maintenance. All that goth though...Then I went back to a normal ish color for me. First time brandi colored my hair, it was “ganache brown and white chocolate highlights”. A lovely combination. Then I went a purple/brown base with white highlights and a strip of black and red.
Ashlie as a Sunflower...
So I met up with my hair dresser and she was asking if I was open to a conversation about the look. I said I was. Like realistically I love the concept but blonde has always been weird for me, so my ends being blonde was meh but a good hair dresser keeps you from making a permanent mistake. My hair was cut. I WAS A MOP. and it was not a fun time. Once the hair was cut, we looked at what we did last time and what we wanted to do. I love changing it up and she likes changing it with me. We ended up using the better colors in my reference photo but in a way that made more sense for my cut.
Now, keep in mind, when I take too long to get my hair cut and its that long, it needs to go super short. We kept the same base color, with a touch added of violet to it. The base itself is actually a brown natural violet. The red stripe is the same red with an added bit of red. We decided to not do highlights, and I think I am so much happier for it. I even love going dark for the brows. I ended up trimming them up when I got home, but as I get older I feel like they don’t grow back as much so I am weird about trimming them? But I love my brows dark. My gal used beard color on them? LOVE IT.
Am I crazy for having a hair dresser out of state? Maybe. Or...am I crazy for not making a trip out of state to go to an amazing human being that loves what she does and makes me feel amazing? You may pick what you feel is your “crazy”. I love my pixie cut and most likely will not ever go back to long hair. When my partner saw it, he said my “inner goth became an outer goth”. I love it, once it grows out and lightens up it will grace beautifully. Thank you Secrets of Beauty!
Mister and Misses...
Valentines Day is around the corner. I think people have a love hate relationship with the hallmark holiday (I am hilarious and I know it). There are a fair amount of couples that I think most people idolize...like Romeo and Juliet....or Tristan and Isolde....Bonnie and Clyde. Now, let’s talk briefly about what is wrong with that. One, really shouldn’t we idolize someone living in our time? (Like our parents...right?) Two, some are literary (possibly based on real) and/or legend. Bonnie and Clyde...weren’t they criminals? Oh wait, how about Harry and Beaux from Too Hot To Handle Season 3? Well, that one would kind of work but I don’t think (at the time this post is written) that they are an item. THEY SHOULD BE. Different rant for a different post.
I think most of us have a combination of people that makes the perfect relationship. Some of those characters are together in their original universe, like maybe for example Joker and Harley Quinn/Mad Moxxi and Handsome Jack. Sometimes, the combination only exists in your head and not in the original universe. What would be my version? Joker and Moxxi:
I am going to explain why. First of all, if one is honest...Moxxi don’t need no man. She’s a woman in a mans world. But she has many men because...she wants to. She bears a lot of resemblance to Harley Quinn, so if Harley is Jokers type...then in their own universe this could totally work. Joker is a busy man, you know prince of crime. He needs a strong able bodied woman by his side. Maybe they even run a successful front together...shes the bar keep and he is the entertainment? I could totally see it. Really, the key to a gals heart is making her laugh too.
Do I see myself as Moxxi? Yes. Would I love a Joker. YES. Do they look perfect together? In my humble onion, of course! The best couples have a combined nickname, you know like Harry and Beaux are “Barry” and these guys would be “Joxxi”. You know, two people so connected that they are their own identity as a couple on top of their individual identity? That to me is a real relationship goal. Like one should be amazing on their own but better together. Who, in your mind, is your ideal pairing?
The Week in Fish (Meals)
Do you like seafood? Here is where I would insert the lame but funny “see food diet, I see food and I eat it” joke. Seafood is great if you have the pallet for it. The first time I had seafood was in my teens and my grandfather told me to try Calamari. I was not told that was octopus until after. It was good. But there are so many kinds of fish.
Salmon Ceviche
Ceviche is a great meal to make with different kinds of fish. Some people use shrimp, tuna, and this time I used salmon. It came out pretty good. I have a post on how to make ceviche, or google is great for this too.
Crab Cakes
You know that thing you typically have as an appetizer? It’s kind of a lot of work to make. You can take crab with some mustard, breadcrumbs, and other things and pan fry it for a great meal. I paired it with sauteed salad and cheese corn. YUM.
Scallop Pasta
Pick your favorite pasta and sauce and get your scallops and pay fry them for a great protein to go in your pasta. It’s like a seafood meatball spaghetti!
Tuna Casserole
I have never had this before, and it looked like a lazy woman had canned tuna and soup in her pantry when she made it. Never the less, I mixed canned tuna with corn and spinach and keto soup and baked it....YUM. I ate way too much the first night and it lasted a day as leftovers? YUM.
Shrimp Fajitas
Fajitas are great with any protein but shrimp can be a great way to have mexican with fish! Did you know they looked like before prepped to eat?
Lobster Bisque and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Lobster is hard to eat and make at home in its large form, if you want to simplify it...have it in soup form. Pair it with a great sandwhich and make sure you get the soup from somewhere good!
Surf & Turf
If you have had fish all week, its time to add a little bit of land meat to the menu....surf and turf is a great meal. It could be steak and shrimp, or chicken and scallops. So many options.
You know what they say (and really I still would like to know who THEY are) but you are what you eat, always be fishy! Fish is a whole world of flavors, but also knowledge. How to cook, how to eat, the idea that food comes from not only farms. It’s also connection to other cultures that rely only on seafood. Also, when you get the chance, try seafood done by other cultures....you know most other cultures (other than american) use the whole fish?
What do you call an historian stuck in the past...A Fortune Teller! LOL
