The reason I'm up so late is because Gotham needed saving
Peter: It's a bird!
Tony: No, it's a plane!
Peter & Tony: [arguing]
Stephen: [long pause] it's a motherfucking brick.
When you forget to feed the meter and your Winter Soldier gets towed.
Let me start this out by saying:
I am not a Superman fan. As you will see in a moment I respect him like crazy. But i am not a fan of the Man of Steel. Superman is that character that you know will [almost] always win. Good will triumph. He will save Lois, and everyone else. And life in Metropolis will go on, just as it always has.
And probably the biggest thing that i hate about him? The fact that [lately] Hollywood refuses to get him right!
My favorite Clark Kent/Supermen were Dean Cain or Christopher Reeve. And that is because these two of them played an amazing good Clark Kent.
Superman isnt a tortured god among humans. Superman doesnt have the Batman dichotomy. Superman is Clark Kent.
[I know. Duh. Right?]
But seriously. Superman IS Clark Kent. Clark is the moral center that drives Superman. Not the other way around. Clark is a country boy from Midwest America. Clark has adoptive parents who instilled in him lessons that he carries in his heart. Lessons that drive him to be the best human he can possibly be.
Theres a big push to make him this metropolitan man. But thats not who he is. Sure, he lives in Metropolis NOW. But hes a farm boy. This was a boy who got out in the early morning and worked the fields til it was too hot. This was someone who was raised with a farming schedule, who knew when to plant certain crops throughout the year. This was someone who, lets face it, growing up in Smallville Kansas the biggest City he ever probably saw was Kansas City.
The thing that Hollywood refuses to get right is his Morality. This is someone who genuinely believes in the best in people. Someone who loves greatly. This is someone who does the right thing because its the right thing to do.
This is someone who might be more human than the humans in his universe.
Clark Kent isnt this suave and sophisticated New Yorker. This boy would have an accent. This boy would probably show up to any work party in his Sunday Best or in a Nice Flannel shirt and blue jeans.
Can you imagine the first time he made it to Metropolis..? The boy probably spent at least an hour in complete awe of everything. He was probably late to his first several appointments because the streets didnt make any sense or because he gave his cab to a Pregnant Woman.
We have such a tendency to see him as the man from Metropolis, the unbeatable alien Savior from Krypton.
But thats not Superman. Superman is Clark Kent, man from Smallville Kansas. Adopted Son of Jonathan and Martha Kent.
And i respect that. I dislike Superman. But i respect Clark Kent.
No more Jason is the rebellious robin who's dark and edgy and blah blah blah. Jason is the funny Robin! Eat your heart out Dick Grayson, Jason "oh goodness gracious I've been bamboozled" Todd is neck and neck with you for best jokes!
just had a horrible thought
so we all know the “s” stands for hope right? what if it was “h” and clark was just a downright weirdo from a farm
