I absolutely can't stand people who's response to folks wanting options for disability representation in games of "but its a fantasy and disability is sad, why would we want that in there", like the nerve to insist that my baseline existence is too depressing to ever be in a life sim is deplorable.
as if the issue is that disabled people exist in the world and therefore must be cosmically depressing, rather than that ableism exists and makes navigation harder. what those views imply is "I can't imagine disability without tragedy, and I don't want to do the work of imagining otherwise."
The "escape" argument only works if you've already decided that disabled people don't count as gamers, as people, that we're objects of representation rather than participants. Heavens forbid we want to make characters like ourselves in things like life sims at a bare minimum.....ugh
