God, this is stupid. I haven’t written in a journal since I was…what, 11?

A few months ago I found one that had fallen behind my desk drawer. I was so angsty back then, it was ridiculous. I really didn’t have anything to be upset about. I didn’t know how good I had it.

I never kept my old journals long enough to look back on. Any time I tried, I would feel so ashamed and embarrassed of my older self that I would immediately shred it into as many pieces as possible, and then burn it. The cycle went on for years until I eventually stopped journaling altogether. 

I guess I ended up pivoting to songwriting, but that’s never felt quite the same. I still have to focus on getting the words to rhyme, get them to match with the music in the right way.

I always hoped I would be able to write a song about her to tell her everything I feel. But I’ve never managed.

brinho week 2023, day 2: safe haven | “we’re safe, aren’t we?”

here’s a short little scene for y’all. this technically takes place after the events of my safe haven brinho fic, but i wrote it so it can be read as a standalone.

Jorge and Aris decide to break the news over dinner.

They stand in front of the rock memorial, hitting two pieces of wood together and calling for attention. Brenda picks her head up from where it had been resting on Minho’s shoulder to listen.

“Hey, everyone,” Jorge greets once the group has quieted down. “Aris has something he wants to tell you.” He claps Aris enthusiastically on the back, the strength of it almost causing Aris to stumble over. 

Aris clears his throat awkwardly. “Uh, hi guys. Some of you might know that me and Jorge have been working on a WCKD tablet we managed to smuggle out of Denver. Well, this morning, we were able to unlock it.”

i only realized just now that february 9th marked the 10 year anniversary of the completion of "therapy dogs and comic books." i would make something to celebrate but enna already made this great moodboard in 2015.

i've been pretty vocal about how looking back on this fic often brings me a sense of embarrassment or critique, since my writing style has changed and strengthened in the last 10 years (from being 18 to 28 years old) and it's hard not to judge my former self. but the truth is that a lot of people loved and still love this fic. i still get comments on it to this day. it's by far the most popular fic i've ever written and i don't think anything will come close. it's also the only long, multi-chapter fic i've written where i was posting weekly updates, and it was such a unique (if sometimes stressful) experience. this was written and posted during my freshman year of college which was a very formative time for me, and this fic will always be associated with that. i have vivid memories of writing it and being excited about my new ideas. i even ended up writing a sequel fic a few years later as an epilogue of sorts. so even if i sometimes cringe at my writing choices, this fic means a lot to me and always will. it further enveloped me into the TMR community, which ultimately led to me making some friends i've had for years and even met in-person.

so to anyone who's ever read this fic (or any of mine, really), thank you! and i appreciate all the love it still gets from new and returning readers. it's crazy to me that people still read or re-read this, but i'm happy it's been able to bring any amount of people some joy. :~)

yeah so obviously this one was me HAHAHA mayhaps the photoshopped eyes and vampire teeth gave that away. alas.

this was fun and a unique challenge, i ended up making the actual layouts in canva which i was hoping would sway people from guessing me. it did not!

and yes putting vampire teeth on Brenda made me Feel Things. i don't wanna talk about it.

i also got so in the zone that i started making one for Sonya before realizing she was not part of my giftee's wishes 😂 so i ended up using most of her template for Newt. but here is what i had:

i actually think the teeth look best on her. and yes these are red-hair photos of kat that i had to make blonde. AGAIN
