Small happy rant about an art class project I'm doing!

So basically, we're doing a project on identity. That's basically all the teacher gave us, and for a while I couldn't figure out what to do but then I had a thought!

Being neurodivergent and having hyperfixations is a massive part of me, it's become so much of my identity and I wanted to be able to share the joy and also consuming feeling of hyperfixations with people. So I started brainstorming and decided to make a piece that symbolizes hyperfixations and how they can take over your life. I'm only in the basic first bit of it despite a little less than two weeks of work so I won't show it but I'll describe it.

I had a friend take a reference photo of me in my bedroom, sitting on my bed and looking at a tv. Then I sketched that onto paper, so now we have a person in a bedroom. Not really hyperfixations just yet.

So the next step was to start placing posters on the walls of this bedroom drawing, and these are all star wars posters, because star wars is my hyperfixation at the moment and has been since the beginning of the pandemic or earlier. Basically just a lot of star wars posters. The tv the person is looking at is also going to be playing star wars, and outside the window is the view you would have from a ship looking at the death star.

Basically it's all symbolizing how a hyperfixation, in this case star wars, can completely take over your life and become a massive part of your identity. I know it's not the most creative idea ever but it's my first real art class that I'm taking and I'm just enjoying it so much! It's the first art that I wanted to make that I've made since the beginning of summer, because I was having such horrible art block all summer long. I finally feel creative again after all that time and it's so refreshing.
