7. What’s a funny mistake you’ve made recently?

“The other day, I thought Peter was talking to me about that meal kit delivery service HelloFresh and I was about to tell him I only ever bought from Blue Apron before. Cause I do recall I was once told their products were responsibly sourced, probably by Mr. Ocampo. Anyhow, turns out his little noggin had come up with a new word profesh.” Felix laughed. At the memory and the sea of similar ones it drifted amidst. “Those kiddos and their lingos, am I right?”

20. What do you look for in someone’s online dating profile?

“Why, to be honest with ya, I’ve heard the rumour mill spill a lot of deets on this whole online dating phenomena but I haven’t quite tried a hand at it yet myself. I suppose similar interests might be nice and whether they like cuddling if that’s in there, on their form? Ya need to fill in a form, right?”

28. What is the coolest name that you would never name a real human child?

“The coolest one, huh? How about…. ice.” Felix tried a hand at doing the finger guns before an excited gasp sliced through the room. “Jeepers creepers! It would be an ice ice baby!”

sunset: who is someone you thought would be in your life forever, but you no longer talk to?

“I don’t want to like, name them, but my friends when I was little. My school friends, I mean. I was really close with them for years, we had all these plans, but then something just sort of changed - I haven’t spent more than a couple minutes with any of them since middle school. It’s not their fault, we just sort of drifted, I get that that’s normal, and I still have great friends now, but… I don’t know. I still miss them, just a little bit.”

constellations: who is someone you could talk to for hours and never stop?

“Probably any of my friends? I don’t know, I don’t really shut up a lot - but I know this is meant to be someone, so… Silvie. I love our whole group so much, seriously, and I could’ve said any of them and it would’ve been just as true, but Sil, they just… it’s so easy with Sil. They’re just so positive? And they like, get what I say even if it comes out weirdly, they’ll just accept it, I just… I love talking to them, I don’t care how long we’re together for. And Fred! I don’t get to see him as much, but it’s sort of the same thing with him, and I can talk to him about like, art stuff, but it’s not just that, it could be anything, and just… yeah. Those two.”

soothe: what’s one thing that always makes you feel better when you’re upset?

“Talking to my friends, or my dads. I don’t like bothering them with stupid stuff, but sometimes there’s no other real options, and it’s just nice to have them around, honestly, doesn’t even need to be talking to them, could just be like… hanging out in the same room or something. Or sometimes I just like lying in my room and watching something, or listening to music, stuff like that. Most of the times I’m upset is just cause like, overthinking or getting overwhelmed or something, so I just gotta take time to relax before I have to think whatever it is over, you know? Processing time.”

“I just feel calmer. When I’m with you.”

It was a night where she felt homesick--where she missed her family,  where she felt like a failure, and couldn’t take another hour stuck in that tiny apartment by herself. Judy dragged herself and a blanket to her favorite park. Within a few minutes, she was lounging on the grass, looking up at the stars and recounting the stories her father had told her. Maybe she was there for a few minutes--or over an hour, she couldn’t tell--but she didn’t need to look at the person who joined her to know it was Nick. “It sucks,” she found herself blurting. So much for a greeting. “It sucks feeling like you can’t do anything, or you’re letting people down.” Judy took a deep breath. “Or you’re making people angry just to be around you.”

They were both silent for a moment, and she could feel the tears brimming her eyes, when Nick spoke, his voice softer than she’d heard before. “I don’t feel angry...I just feel calmer. When I’m with you.”  She quickly closed her eyes, a couple tears falling onto the blanket. Judy turned onto her side, resting her head on his chest. Maybe it didn’t solve all her problems, but him lying next to her made feel calmer than she had in weeks.

After being stuck with another night shift, Judy wondered if the new officers that had come in to help with Winnie’s case were just trying to get them out of their hair. It sucked, to say the least, but at least she had Nick. She was finishing up a call about a noise complaint when she looked up and saw Nick sauntering over with that no-good crooked smile. Narrowing her eyes at him, she asked the person one last question, then hung up. “Before you say anything–” Judy let the words tumble out of her mouth. “I know I promised you I wouldn’t work past the end of the shift.” She could tell he was about to protest, likely thinking she was going back on her word, so she spoke over him. “Which is why…We’re ordering a pizza and watching brain-numbingly stupid movies until we pass out on the couch.”

She waited for him to turn down the offer, to say he’d just been walking over here to say good-bye or that he had other plans, when she saw the crooked smile again and heard him say, “You always know how to make me smile.” Soon enough, Judy was smiling too and they were heading back to her apartment.

I’m an all animal person! I have both a cat and a dog! The cat’s name is Gruff and the puppy’s name is Shadow! But I also have a chinchilla and his name is Sir Melvin Squish and he’s great! “I really love animal hugs, but are we really surprised about this? Another thing, if it has to involve other people, is stories. I love when people try to cheer me up with stories that make them happy, ‘cause when other people are happy, I’m happy.”

“All the flowers are really pretty, but I’m a really big fan of calla lilies. Have you seen them? They’re so ridiculously pretty and now I really want some.”

“I really seriously love Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. Just ‘cause that’s a super fun song and if you’ve got the balls to sing it, life is gonna be really good, I promise!”
