im someone who was always told that i would be a great lawyer and i thought it was for me now 2nd year into law school my grades are OKAY but i’m not enjoying the path it’d take me to, also if were already down the rabbit hole but figure it’s not for us, what do... i’m interested in human rights but i think it’s take years of other work before really getting into that :(
So, for the record, the daily life of law school is nothing like the daily life of a lawyer. If it’s just the “god I hate criminal law” that’s got you down, stick with it if you can. Intern at a law firm to get a feel for what the day to day of a lawyer is really like before you bite the bullet and bail.
And never underestimate taking that JD and turning it into an LLM. @marendezvouspoint knew she wanted to work in policy and so suffered through the JD to get to the LLM and will probably never ever work in a law firm (although she is doing the bar exam to volunteer groups that provide legal counsel to underrepresented groups like DV victims)
If what you want to do is human rights, map out what steps you need to take to get you to that place and go for it. The only thing stopping you is yourself.
