To be honest, I wasn't sure if I could pull off today race. I set a positive affirmation that I would finish but enough wiggle room to give myself permission if I couldn't make it to the finish line. Doing an eighteen miler after have plenty of hiccups for most of your marathon and ultra marathon training is brutal, especially in my case. "What about your surgery?" And "Your insides haven't healed..." is what I've been getting. Respectfully, I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't cleared SEVERAL times. I know my restrictions and limitations for the next few months and this isn't one of them. Nevertheless, I'm thankful for the concerns. Took a bit longer than originally planned when I signed up but it was done. Every single mile that I completed today was in honor to my departed friend and poet Natasha "Itsrealight" Spence. Today would've been her 37th birthday. Her battle with lupus took her away from us two years ago and I'm still a bit hurt that I didn't make it to her funeral. For her birthday, I hope that you take a moment to reflect on a good time with someone who's transitioned and made an impact on your life. Doesn't have to be eighteen miles, maybe a two minute thought, reflection or chuckle. Life's short and her absence reminds me of it randomly. Happy birthday Light.
