Not everyone you want to get along with and reach out to, want to get along with you. And not everyone will have the mental ability to do so.

it’s probably better to just walk away or give up on that relationship.

You will develop and make friendships where it’s a give and take. And thats what friendships should be. Sometimes you’ll message those friends, and sometimes they’ll message you. Sometimes the frequency of the messaging will change, but it’s still a comfortable friendship.

That’s healthy and normal.
