bad thoughts
Thinking about Armand. Thinking about how he refused to create any vampires for 500 years. Is it because he resented his origins? Or is it because he would lose control over the ones he created? Was he so desperate to be in control that just the thought of not being able to read someone's mind prevented him from decreasing his loneliness?

Reader POV
I stood behind the bar, looking at all of my waiters, letting out a sigh of relief, glad everything was finally running smoothly. I had just gotten my bar up and running, barely, when we had our grand opening, my waiters were still being trained, and I was having to bartend.
That’s when he showed up, his green eyes showing interest as they scanned my bar. I smirked slightly, pouring a shot of whiskey for the man right in front of me, he seemed old, with salt and pepper hair, and beard.

Captain Jeon crossed the street, maneuvering around people easily. It always seemed that even the most dense crowds, were parting for a man in uniform. He kept his head low, trying not to be even more noticeable than a uniformed officer who stood over a head taller than most of the people around him could be. But people still stopped and stared and followed them with their eyes to see where he was going. And once they saw that he was making a beeline to the roughed up man who stood just as tall as him with the same strong jaw and tired set to his eyes as he, their curiosity tapered a bit.
The captain had come to a stop directly in front of his little brother, but all the other man had done was slowly look up to meet his gaze. Then his tired expression was lowering to the captain’s left and right. “Where is she?” He asked softly, gaze cutting to the opposite side of the street in case you had somehow missed the light. His older brother rocked on his heels, slowly answering,
“She’s gone.”
Jungkook looked confused,“You let her go.” He corrected. Of course he had let her go. “Why would you leave her alone?”
“Why do you care?” He countered gently. “You questioned why you were still with her and now she’s gone. You didn’t go after her, I think that makes how you felt about her pretty clear.” Jungkook looked away, that was true. He had decided not to pursue and now you were truly gone; but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to miss you.
It was big city, if you really wanted to disappear, you could. Captain Jeon cleared his throat,“She told me she was forced into your group. You and your ‘family’ held an innocent woman against her will. That’s not right, Jungkook. How..how could you stand for something like that? How could you have said you loved her, but kept her against her will?”
“We all start out some way.” He mumbled,“She was traded for a ring. I was abandoned by our father. Tae was dropped off by his step mom. Jimin was tricked by a woman. Namjoon was convinced by a man he thought was like a brother to him. I think Jin was fed some lie that it was family thing. Yoongi was..I don’t know how he got in, but we all got in some way and once you’re in you can’t leave. I can’t leave and neither can she.” Tae may have said you weren’t family, but Jungkook had been with you. He had protected you and treated you like everyone else in the organization. He had fought with you and held you and cried with you.
You were his family.
You were part of the family.
The officer frowned deeply. “So what organization is she in? It can’t be yours if you just let her go and Min threatened her. She’s not with anyone, she’s just stuck.” He checked the streets, eyes skipping over the passing people. It was habit ingrained into him from the police academy, but he noticed that Jungkook did the same thing, eyes subtly scanning over anyone who walked too close to them.
Jungkook furrowed his brows,“I..I don’t know. Everyone else treated her like..they just treated her different, but I’ve always viewed her as one of us. She’s part of the family to me, I don’t understand why everyone else thinks differently.” Captain Jeon sighed softly.
“Is she..was she the first girl you’ve ever been with..?” Maybe that was why Jungkook saw no fault in how you had come to him. He was too attached to the fact that you were the first woman he had such an intimate relationship with.
Jungkook had frowned, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Where was this line of questioning leading to? “No.” He deadpanned,“I’ve been with girls before her and after her. She’s not..she’s not different that way. Her and I never-”
“What’s special about her to you then?”
The younger of the two took a step back, face pinching,“Don’t you want me to leave her alone?” He growled,“Why are you trying to make me remember why I love her? That’s just going to make me go after her again.”
“You look so lost.” Captain Jeon whispered,“And since I first met you, after knowing that you were my family, she’s the only thing that’s brought a smile to your face.” He licked his lips,“Seeing the way you cradled her close when she was discharged..and the way you didn’t hold back with our dad when trying to get your visitation restored…” He shrugged, “And how troubled you looked when you couldn’t remember why you loved her.” Captain Jeon looked away, shaking his head,“You must’ve loved her so fiercely, so passionately and now it’s just gone..and you’re both so somber.”
Jungkook’s face pinched as if he was in pain, “She has Yoongi.”
Yoongi stared blankly at the cracking concrete wall. Blinking sedately, he felt an itch crawling up his throat, but ignored it, eyes tracing over the splintering edges of the crumbling wall. It had been over three days and although he had not tried to find out anything about your whereabouts, he was burning on the inside that you had not come back to see him.
Like he had told you to.
However, Captain Jeon had visited six times. Each time waving a new accusation in his face. Abduction, murder, assault, possession of illegal weapons, the works. All the bland accusations he was used to. Yoongi had only rubbed at his eyes tiredly, swiping the folders off the metal table and leaning closer to the officer.
“How’s your little brother? Still hiding Y/N under his belt?” He had murmured. The resemblance was immediate once Yoongi had stopped glaring at him. The officer was a burly, lighthearted replica of the broody little shit who thought he owned you. Yoongi could see that. Officer Jeon had bristled, eyes narrowing at the mention of Jungkook. He never would have thought Yoongi would ask about him, but the moment your name was hissed between clenched teeth, Captain Jeon understood.
Yoongi wanted to know about you.
“She’s free.”
At that, the mafia boss’s lips had snapped shut. He had leaned as far back as possible in his seat, handcuffed hands settled neatly and patiently in his lap. But the way he picked at his thumbnail told otherwise. That answer was something that he had never considered and it had put him on edge.
“Free?” Yoongi had echoed. The word tasted bitter on his tongue. You were as much a mafia member as himself or your brother. Members didn’t just become 'free’. There was a price to pay or there was something you had to take. The only apparent thing that stood between you and 'freedom’ was Jungkook. “Did she kill him?” He asked curiously. Captain Jeon had glared back at him, angered at the absurd answer.
“Do you really think I’d say that she was free if I knew she had killed Jungkook?”
Yoongi had shrugged, smirking at the officer, “You seem to have a soft spot for her.” He teased darkly, “After all, I’m pretty sure she’s the only suspect for the murder of one Park Jimin and yet..” He paused, “She’s free.”
“Technicali-”
“Mhm,” He cut in, nodding furiously. He had raised up his handcuffed wrists, nodding towards the opening door, “Technicality issues, happens all the time.” Yoongi chuckled, “Just like now.” Captain Jeon had swiveled in his chair, confusion twisting his features as two guards stepped in, keys jangling from one’s hands. They flanked Yoongi, one unlocking the cuffs as the other politely helped him stand. Yoongi was in for a life sentence, the Captain was personally making sure of this. What was happening? He waited for the guards to answer him, but they remained silent and stone faced.
Yoongi stood between them, the corners of his lips tilting up as he rubbed his wrists. The captain sure wasn’t expecting that, was he? But if the police captain could pull the technicality card and so could Jungkook, then there was no doubt Yoongi could find some leverage too. It was a good thing that the judge and lawyers overseeing his case had exquisite taste in the red light district of the city; which so happened to be up for grabs between organizations. One little call and mountains of photographic evidence were flooding Yoongi’s mailbox down in the mailroom.
“Wait, what’s going on?” The captain finally voiced. The two guards looked away from him, neither wanting to mention the little loophole that usually got an officer the outcome he wanted.
“Technicality, of course.” Yoongi replied. Nodding his head towards the doorway, Yoongi motioned of the man standing there, “Meet Jin…or Seokjin, I believe you know him as.”
Foot still wrapped tightly and settled into a boot, Jin stood silently, neatly pressed suit tapered snuggly. He looked almost exactly the same as when the captain had last seen him. The only thing missing was the shiny golden badge hooked onto his belt. Jin still had the soft look to his face that had confused the captain if the man had ever seen the inside walls of the police academy; but once the man had rattle off drill maneuvers, squad numbers, instructor names and even yearly senior pranks there was no doubt that the man had been in the academy at some point. That, and the way he seemed to know the ins and out of protocols and patrol routes. Then he had murmured the word 'undercover’ and that filled in all the obscurities that Captain Jeon had noticed about him. “Seokjin?”
“Looks familiar right? Your undercover friend? Works for me.” Yoongi grinned, “He’s also Y/N’s older brother.” It was then that Jin had smiled softly, eyes downcast. And the captain was reminded of the way you had look when Jungkook had gently whispered something to you. You and Jin did, in fact, look very similar. The entire part about working for Yoongi was what stumped him. Perhaps this was all a part of his cover? But Captain Jeon never remembered anything about freeing convicts for the sake of their cover. Wasn’t it when the bad guy was in jail that the undercover bit ended?
Was there a man higher than Min Yoongi who needed to be taken down?
Captain Jeon blinked, unsure of what else to do. He stared at him, waiting for Jin to give some sort of notion that what Yoongi was saying was false, but all Jin had done was nod at him. Yoongi, newly released, clapped his hands, rubbing them together as he leveled his gaze with the captain.
“So, does 'free’ have an address?”

The cool fabric of the dark satin pillowcase was forcefully yanked from your head, your neck muscles straining as the other person mistakenly grabbed a fistful of your hair. You whined lowly, head jerking as they re-positioned their hand and yanked once more.
You could feel a few strands being pulled from your scalp. Tied by your wrists and ankles to the wooden chair you sat in, it took you a moment for your eyes to adjust to your dim surroundings. Once you could see clearly, you realized that you were in an empty warehouse. The person who had pulled the case from around your head stepped out from behind you and into view. His eyes met yours and he smiled, eyes creasing with the action.
And you found yourself awestruck by his adorable grin. He was the one who had abducted you? He didn’t look like he could hurt a fly. He eyes drifted somewhere over your shoulder as he purred,“Oh..he’s waking up.” You tried and failed to look back see who he was talking about. His soft hands brushed against your bare arms as he firmly gripped the edges of your chair and turned it to face the other way.
“…Jin?”
About thirty feet away, similarly tied to a chair and head lolling to the side sat your brother, one eye swollen shut. You gagged and behind you, you could hear the man chuckle softly,“Ahhh, I heard he was a pretty boy so I figured if I went for his face first, he’d fess up.” Resting his head on your shoulder, his fingers gripped your chin, pulling you to lean your head against his. His sharp eyes flickered across Jin’s waking form, “But as we can see now, it didn’t work and I had to get a little more…” His lips brushed over your ear,“..Personal.” You flinched away, hands straining against the zip tie and the man grinned, gently stroking your head, “I know he was proud of his looks, but he never mentioned his baby sister being such a catch.” The feel of his fingernails gently scraping your scalp had you crying out.
Jin’s head snapped up, “Y/N!?” His one good eye locked with yours and your brother burst into tears jerking against his restraints,“Wait! Not her! Please! Anything.. I’ll do anything!!” The man beside you dropped his hand onto your shoulder farthest from him, thumb absently stroking your collarbone as he happily watched Jin writhe.
“By the way,” He chimed, winking down at you,“I’m Jimin and you and I are going to have so much fun~”

Yoongi was waiting.
Jungkook was waiting.
Even Jin and Jimin waited to see who you’d choose, but all you could think of was the light in your eyes.
Something was glimmering brightly, blinding you. Squinting, you shifted, finally seeing that the light shining in your eyes was reflected from a light hitting a silver watch. Atop the rooftop of the warehouse dropped down into a leisurely crouch, Taehyung smiled down at you, pocket watch strategically held in his hands. He held a single finger to his lips; urging you to stay silent about his whereabouts. You looked away to your feet, frowning softly. If he didn’t want anyone to know he was there, why did he signal you in the first place? You didn’t have long to dwell before Taehyung was pulling up a gun into his hands and pointing it down below.
At Yoongi.
You flinched, reflexively calling out his name and stepping forward as if that’d help you warn him any faster. Of course, your actions were misinterpreted. Jungkook’s face had darkened, and Yoongi only nodded knowingly.
Taehyung fired a warning shot, startling the group.
Yoongi whirled around, glaring up at Taehyung. What exactly was that man doing on his turf? More importantly, why was he shooting at him? A bag was thrown down to Yoongi.
The bag Hoseok had been using earlier.
Jin had released Jungkook, rushing back to the car and digging for something under the driver’s seat. Jimin scrambled over, rummaging through the glove compartment. Tae laughed, waving over at Jin and Jimin, “I’m only here to deliver Hobi hyung’s bag and give Yoongi a message. No need to pull out the heavy guns.” Jin and Jimin had started to move from the car, heading over to stand beside Yoongi.
Seeing that everyone was distracted, you slowly moved to Jungkook, reaching out for his hand. If there was any chance to talk to him, now was it.
But he pulled his hand away from you.
“What are you doing?” You whispered, reaching for him again. “We..we can take this opportunity to go. To run away, Jeon.” You and Jungkook could leave and by how absorbed the three men were in Tae’s discussion, the chances of you two being caught immediately were slim. Why was Jungkook so uncooperative?
“Why don’t you run away with Yoongi? You sure looked like you wanted to go to him. Are you going to call out for him when you’re in trouble now too? Then move onto the next guy who looks your way and helps you a little?” He mocked flatly. You stared up at him in disgust. Was he mad? After everything he’d done, he was angry with you for hesitating?
“Jeon..” You breathed slowly, rubbing your hands over your face. You didn’t want to draw attention to yourselves but made the mistake of looking at his disdainful expression. His eyes flickered to you when you laughed softly, before suddenly screaming at him and shoving your hands against his chest, “Jeon!” Jin turned his head back, eyes scanning for you; the three other men soon followed suit,
“I know in detail everything you’ve done with Areum behind those closed doors. I’ve got first-hand accounts and I saw the evidence every night for weeks! Everything you did to satisfy yourself! But when I so much as look at Yoongi because I’m afraid that if I disobey him, he’s going to hurt you, I’m the bad one? Me? You’re a fucking hypocrite!” Your anger deflated quickly and you curled in on yourself, staring at the ground. Jungkook may be able to fight until the end, but you couldn’t; you just wanted to disappear. “And I was still willing to admit I love you…I’m so stupid.” Your fingers curled into your skin, “Overall, I love you, Jeon..I really do, but right now, I really wish I would’ve fallen in love with any man but you..”
Jungkook stared at you, unsure of what to say. He didn’t know Areum had told you everything. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do to fix this. Instead, he licked his lips, “You don’t mean that.” He tried softly. You weren’t thinking straight, you didn’t see the whole picture like he did.
“You left me alone in a room for weeks because I upset you.” You started, anger rising by the second, “How I about I do that to you? How I about I cut off contact with you for weeks and we’ll see how much you want to love me after! How about Jimin and I-”
At the phrase ‘Jimin and I’, Jungkook mentally raised a red flag, “Stop.”
You brushed him aside, changing wording, “Or even Yoongi and I-”
Yoongi’s name was even worse, “I said stop!” He screamed at you.
“How about he and I have sex every night and he goes back to tell you all about it!” You shouted, “And while you’re sitting there crying, you’re listening to him tell you how he and I laugh at you!” You shoved at him again, “That’s what I went through, Jeon! That’s what I went through and I still pick you…I pick you every time.. and you still don’t trust me. You still keep me at an arm’s distance.”
“..because you’re going to die.” He mumbled.
“What?”
“You’re too trusting. You think people actually live by their word, Y/N! They don’t!” He pointed to Jimin, “You think he was really trying to help you because he said he was. He abducted you, tried to rape you, he’s trying to kill you or get you to kill yourself! Jimin’s false words are what got my mother killed and you’re falling into the same trap she did!” Jungkook pointed over to Taehyung, still crouched atop the roof,
“You thought of going to Tae. He has his women raped. I tried to show you as kindly as possible, to warn you. Choi, the Yoongi you knew; he shot your brother!” Jungkook glared over at Yoongi, “And him…The man you really thought of going with to protect me; like I need protection..you’re the one who needs it.” He sighed, “Don’t you ever wonder what happened to your brother? Not Jin, your other brother; the oldest."He watched your face twist in confusion; most likely wondering how Jungkook knew of your oldest brother. Jin and you never spoke of him. "I did more than just call on Areum those three weeks…Do you want to know how this whole organization started?”
Jungkook heard Jin call out a hesitant, “No.” Yoongi tilted his head to the side, blankly watching you frown lightly at Jungkook. If Jungkook was really going to talk about that, he’d be cutting it a little too emotional and Yoongi was sure you wouldn’t respond well to that. What was Jungkook hoping to achieve?
“Do you remember the park your oldest brother used to take you and Jin to? The one by the river? The same river your brother’s body was found in. Your oldest brother started this.” he murmured, motioning to the warehouses, “He did. They used to all be together, Yoongi, Namjoon, Jin, Jimin, Hoseok, Tae, everyone..all one group. But something happened..I don’t know what it was, I was only 10, I don’t remember much.” He furrowed his brows, desperately trying to conjure up some other locked up memory,
“I only remember seeing Namjoon and Yoongi dragging his body to the river, but they saw me too. I was only 10..” He whispered, “And I remember being hit over and over and over. Namjoon was saying to let me join to keep quiet and Yoongi was saying to throw me in the river with your brother.” He blinked repeatedly,
“And just like that, there were two groups. They split up because they didn’t know what to do with me, but they didn’t want to let me go. They became two groups who hated each other…Namjoon made me join him, but I’ve never forgotten how 15-year-old Yoongi wanted to throw 10-year-old me into a river for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’ve never forgotten how Jimin promised to warn my mother of the building about to be blown up, but instead lied to her saying I was inside just to get her to go in.” He grit his teeth, “
So I’m sorry, Y/N! I’m sorry I hurt you and I’m unfair. I want to keep you all to myself where you’re completely safe, but I can’t..you’re a person who has their own desires and I’m trying to keep that in mind… As wrong as it is, I’ve been hurting you to prepare you; as much as I want to be, I can’t be right beside you at every moment of the day…I want you to have some sort of strength. And I thought about giving up on you…Areum was my way of trying to wean myself from you, but I don’t want to see them toss you in a river or lure you into a building that’s going to explode. You’re the greatest thing that’s happened to me, but if you keep trusting them, they’re going to do it.”
You looked towards your brother, unsure of what to make of that. Jin had always said your oldest brother had drowned trying to save a friend from drowning. That he died helping someone. You remember your brother tucking you into bed and bringing Jin along so they both could stay with you until you fell asleep. He was the one who’d stop Jin from teasing you when you accidentally cut your own hair. How were you supposed to believe that he was the one who started all of this?
Jin wouldn’t meet your stare.
Yoongi’s lips were pursed as if he wanted to say something, but he remained silent, unsure of your current expression. He expected you to start crying, but you had only blinked back your tears. Why weren’t you crying? Jungkook stood, body numb. He had said so much and you were so quiet, he was starting to think that it was too late. That at this point, whatever he did meant nothing to you and that scared him. He still wanted you beside him. He still wanted to fall in love with you. Jungkook stepped closer to you,
“They’re going to take you from me like they’ve done everything else.”
And then there was a gunshot and he was falling towards the ground.
