Commissioned the amazing @araneapeixes for a drawing of Shadowheart and Hymn getting a break from being put through the wringer. It's exactly what I wanted and I keep looking at it while writing angst to make myself feel better (it works very well).

Oh and for anyone reading I would take the suffering from you, well. Here's what they look like! :3

Excerpt from my upcoming fanfiction, I would take the suffering from you. insp

Shadowheart has been kidnapped by sharrans and she watched it happen. In a last ditch attempt to save her, Hymn goes back to Bhaal as his chosen, so that she can once again claim the slayer's form.

Shadowheart is free now, but she's not sure if she can save her lover from Bhaal again: who can escape a god twice?

Chapter 12/12: Oh, the things I do for you

It’s been so easy. She wasn't expecting it. There are moments when it's awkward to be in each other's space again. They walk on each other's toes, constantly interrupt the other when they go to talk. There are moments when Shadowheart forgets Hymn is back and falls back into old habits. Or moments when Hymn spaces out, completely lost to a former reality. All until the other gently brings them back to the present.  But then there’s the love. The touches. The comfort, the delight Shadowheart feels every time she exits one room to find Hymn in the next, waiting for her. Just what she has been hoping for these past six years.  And the love is easy. This, she thinks as she sinks deeper into Hymn’s embrace, is easy.

Chapter 7: (Now jump in the water)

“What happened? With…” Shadowheart starts, almost saying his name but thinking better of it. “At the temple?”

Hymn face is crushed just by the mention of it. She drops Shadowheart’s hand to wring her own fingers until it looks like she could snap them in half.

“I just thought, if I was better or… I didn't know what to do but if I had been stronger…”

She gets lost in her train of thought, her jawline sharpening as she clenches her jaw.

“What did you do?” Shadowheart pushes, despite the fact that she could probably guess.

“You’re gonna hate me.”

Hymn says it like an evidence, but so does Shadowheart: “I could never.”

She knows all there is to know about Hymn. There isn't anything in the world she could do to make Shadowheart hate her.

Chapter 9: For you, I would die, but can't you let me stay dry?

“So now,” Wyll keeps going, prompting her to turn back, “I'm asking my friend. How are you faring?” “I…” Shadowheart doesn't know how to answer.  She's not sure she remembers the last time someone asked her this terribly simple question and made sure to wait for a real answer. It has tears welling in her eyes, she needs to clear her throat before they spill and she finds herself unable to stop them.  “I don't know,” she admits. She thinks of that morning in the cottage, of her discussion with her father, of the lump growing in her throat. “I always make the wrong choices.”

Chapter 5: As good as that sounds, right here I'm just fine.

Hymn is starting to doze off when Shadowheart finally manages to snag her father’s last card.  “History repeats itself,” he jokes, accepting defeat.  Hymn can barely hide her yawn behind her fist. She starts gathering all the cards and works on putting them back in their case.  “You should let us win sometimes,” she tells Shadowheart who scoffs at the idea.  “Absolutely not. Win fairly, or lose.” “‘Win fairly,’” Hymn mumbles. “I still think you’re cheating.” “Whatever you say, love,” Shadowheart answers before she can catch herself.  She has said those exact words so many times before, it takes her a second to realize what she just did.

Chapter 8: I'm too shy and terrified.

“Wait,” Hymn whispers as she puts one hand on Shadowheart's chest to halt her.  Shadowheart is about to ask what is wrong, when Buttons jumps. He turns to his right, showing his teeth in a loud growl. They stop moving. Their eyes scan the area around them but there’s nothing to notice: save for the snow falling from the branches above their head that the wind shakes every now and then, nothing moves.   A cold flash of grey whistles past Shadowheart’s head, planting itself in the tree behind her hard enough for the wood to splinter on impact.  She has barely registered what happened that Hymn has already pushed her behind the tree, flush against the trunk. She shields Shadowheart’s body from view with her own as she peeks around the trunk for any sign of life.
