IWTV but it's butch!LDPDL and femme!stat. Set in 1952 New Orleans, this story explores the real history of old-school dyke bars, historically inspired political intrigue and the development of butch/femme identity between lesbians. Detailed footnotes for the curious reader. Lesbian sensibilities abound! 13k WIP.
"I had planned to find destiny in St. Louis. Now I see that my inclination was a rather fine polaris, only the Saint is not a city, but a handsome woman with a most agreeable disposition.”
Lestat held out her hand, offering a truce. Louis looked for a long time in her eyes, gray but not a dull variety. Louis leaned down, keeping Lestat’s gaze as she bowed. “Destined to be great friends,” she murmured. She kissed the air above Lestat’s hand, exhaling with a quiet pop. The intended sarcasm of the gesture was not catching, and Louis felt exposed, oddly sincere and inexplicably emasculated. The sleeves of her dress puffed out like a joke. Lestat lifted her face, gently as a priest would address a supplicant, and kept her fingertips on Louis’ hot cheek for a long moment. Then she left. Louis moved for a delirious second to follow before the door closed and the rag, wet and heavy in her hand, reminded her of herself.

the final chapter is done! enjoy, or: im sorry. depending how you feel about unstable unreliable narrator lestat, myriad narrative themes and heavy intertextuality.
