EPISODE 1: the long face performance

originally I was like oh thats a cool shot and its artsy because lestat is performing, awesome, no biggie completely unsuspecting

but then we get to...

EPISODE 2: Coffee bar before lawyer scene???

this one confused me so much. and everybody is acting like this shot isnt suspicious as fuck. WHY!!!! ROLIN IM IN YOUR WALLS!!!!

AND THEN!

EPISODE 3: car fire

I would get it if we were still inside the car post crash bc the car itself was upside-down but lestat is already standing on the road looking at the car on fire......why are we looking at him through the fire upside-down specifically???

The reveal I’m waiting for with the most anticipation, out the other side of this wild ride, is who’s listening to “The Failures.” In whose shoes have we, the audience, been placed? It’s going to be fucking electrifying when we find out who won that auction. It’s a wasted dramatic opportunity if they don’t show us who it is when all’s said and done—but I have the feeling that this writing team is too skilled not to take the shot. And I’m eagerly anticipating the moment they do, because I’m going absolutely feral with the need to know this one thing.

it’ll be really interesting when we do finally get to see daniel kiss/hook up with someone because we really don’t know what he’s like in that way. like. i can tell you armand likes his face held and his neck kissed, louis likes hands (in his mouth, gripped tightly in his own), lestat loves intense eye contact, but what does daniel like? what does he need? what noises does he make? where does he put his hands? does he close his eyes? who is he in those impassioned moments?

okay, maybe someone has already said this, or maybe some find it obvious, but i haven't seen it talked about so whatever.

My thoughts/theory surrounding the lawsuit scene:

Louis is suing Lestat AND Daniel for copyright infringement. He and Daniel share ownership of the intellectual property within IWTV, since it is assumed to be a work of fiction. This includes all characters, for example the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. And Louis has not given anyone permission to use said character for their own personal profit. Which Lestat, who is not talking to Louis after the book's release, is doing via his band The Vampire Lestat.

The dinner scene is Louis letting Daniel know. I think that's why we got a glimpse of Raglan and Rashid at that same table with Louis. Because the Talamasca want to control the narrative around the book. If Louis is suing The Vampire Lestat for using the name and described likeness of Louis' intellectual property, it "confirms" it was all fiction. (Which I'm not sure the Talamasca wants, but I haven't watched it yet, so feel free to give input on that aspect if you have!)

The line we hear Lestat say is "HE did not direct a play..." and I think the "he" in question is Daniel. Louis is not happy about the book, doesn't seem too happy with Daniel. So a pissed off Lestat, who refuses to speak to him, linking up with Daniel to make a documentary about Lestat's life and his band? Oh, it's petty hours for a one Mr. Du Lac.

Cut to: Louis telling Lestat he owns his name, his likeness, essentially him and his ability to be seen in the world. Offering a settlement that "benefits them both" wherein Lestat performs at and promotes Louis' venues, and the venues promote the band. This lets him keep tabs on Lestat, influence the scope of his success, aligns with Louis' cutthroat capitalism, and is a fun way to play with their inherent power imbalance.

It's also the same outfit as the scene when someone presents him with Daniel's book and seemingly asks for his autograph —

It's also the same outfit as the scene of him and Dee walking into his apartment and the presumably continuing scene showing Lestat with his guitar and Dee sleeping in the foreground —

Lestat....is not happy. He's in a very dark, depressed place. His relationship with Louis is fraught, and Hannah confirmed during NYCC that Louis has actually regressed from his ending in S2. Louis is not at peace either and while Lestat is doing this for Louis, the book painted Lestat as a monster and also revealed the true horrors Louis had endured since leaving New Orleans, including the bombshell of Armand putting Louis' life at risk by taking him outside during daylight hours.

We've already seen the glimpse of Lestat intentionally fucking with Daniel and playing up the façade of the expected monster he was painted to be —

We also know from Lestat's argument with Louis in the mediation scene that he's piecing together the fact Louis' mind has been fucked over by Armand. I talked about that here, here, and here.

Lestat is also upset over what Armand did to Claudia and the fact Louis went off with him in the aftermath and instead of taking this seriously, Louis is being condescending and defensive and demeaning to Lestat. Louis is deliberately trying to poke at the wound.

So with all that ^^ taken into account, Lestat and Daniel? They're not going to be buddies for a good long while. I think they might come to a place of understanding later via Lestat's trauma with Claudia and Daniel's trauma with his own daughters, but Lestat won't trust Daniel due to what happened with Louis and the book, and Lestat will have the walls up.

I think his relationship progressing with Louis and the dangers becoming more blatantly heightened threats throughout the season will work in tandem with how Lestat's relationship progresses with Daniel.

Oh and Eric also spilled that Daniel tries to flirt with Gabrielle before realizing she's Lestat's mother, and that will inevitably add another shade of disdain from Lestat's POV to color their relationship.

We better fasten our seatbelts, because it's going to be a messy ride. The dynamic between Lestat and Daniel and Louis and Armand is one of the big elements I'm most excited to see. They all tie together. 😬

AH. Ah. The way Louis makes it a point of reffering to Claudia as sister, constantly delineating the lines of their relationship within the boundaries of those of siblings, personally reaffirms it by referring to himself as her brother, and yet, in the privacy of his own home and his own mind, refers to her as his daughter. And not just that. His and Lestat's daughter. His daughter. Not sister, daughter. Our daughter. So that's that.
