For those of you who remember that one time I made a reimagining of the original TDI, I’ve done three things here:
1. Redesign the OCs. Jeremy (The Class Clown) is mostly the same, but I’ve reimagined Addison (now The Theatre Kid) since her original concept was basically MK-lite. I’ve also done a relationship chart for them to give the general gist of who they get on best with. Addison is envisioned as returning for Action and Jeremy in World Tour, although Addison could tentatively return in that as well.
2. Draw the cast from memory. I didn’t use any sort of reference for any of the characters here.
3. Dial back on some of the changes I made last time to return them closer to their canon selves, since I kinda feel some of my old takes were a bit Death of the Author-y, even for a supposed reboot.
Duncan’s played up a lot more as the secondary antagonist of the season. Something I noticed about him in Island was how he and Heather had the same strategy: surround yourself with allies, control the vote against people who threaten you, and ditch anyone who rebels (Beth and Geoff respectively). The only difference is Duncan kept his alliance until the final eight. This is why Jeremy has Duncan on his enemy list, by the way. Tyler, Sadie, and Harold’s eliminations in canon pretty much boiled down to not being in this clique, so the fact it’s a plot point now gives the former two something to do. DJ, too since he’s stuck between being his usual nice self and staying with his friend group.
Speaking of DJ, the pairing of a histrionic drama queen like Addison with the most mild mannered camper was too good to pass up, especially since it gives Courtney her own answer to Lindsay and Tyler. They don’t directly interact that much though since they’re on different teams, and it’s hard to get a word in edgewise against Addie. It’s definitely going to inform the three’s relationship in the following season.
I’m adding the “Le” back to LeShawna. She has regained prefix privileges.
Ezekiel’s still the same as last time I drew him because I got a lot of positive feedback on him and no other character fits that archetype.
Noah’s role is merged with my initial plans for Addison. He’s an ally for Heather, one that’s far less reliable. He also inherited Addison’s old stash of goods to bribe people with.
Katie and Sadie are closer to their canon selves. Instead of “brawn and brains”, it’s “extrovert and introvert”. Katie’s a lot more brash and impulsive in a Shōnen hero sorta way to separate her from cosmic sister Lindsay, while Sadie naturally talks less. Team Outcast gives her friends outside Katie to interact with (and a romantic plot through Jeremy) since Sadie still outranks her in this. Katie at least has a new label as “The Social Butterfly”.
Justin’s laziness will be better established from his time here. Noah’s defined less by his apathy since I’m going by his audition tape characterization, so that part’ll go to Justin.
Something I found interesting is that Heather just keeps Beth around for grunt work while Lindsay gets the classy jobs like diary stealing. This won’t go unmentioned.
Trent’s in desperate need of meaningful character interactions with people other than Gwen why do the writers refuse to let him do anything else
Cody’s more sheltered to evoke his Dramarama self and to distinguish him from Jeremy. He’s explicitly the youngest at fifteen, which also makes his birthday in WT his sweet sixteenth.
All I’ll reveal about the elimination order is:
The merge is still 12 people
1 Premerger reaches the merge in this version.
There is a double elimination.
Ezekiel is still the first boot, but eliminations start in The Big Sleep.
