After I saw Pectolite’s cracked gem form this idea kinda popped into my mind? I know corruption and cracking aren’t the same thing but shhhsh I thought a critter with gem spikes would be cool. Of course after I’d thought up the face my mind suddenly went IT’S SYMBOLISM TIME and I came up with all this other stuff 8I 

And explanations are gonna be under the cut because they’re probably boring ahah

Alrighty, you’re probably wondering why he’s got two heads... well, in Cantonese we have this saying, if a person is a ‘two-headed snake’, it means that they will act one way around their friend(s), and then completely different behind their backs. I thought that kind of linked with how Pecto always hooks up with human guys, but is ashamed of it and tries to hide it from his team. So yeah, two heads. I know they’re not particularly snake-like though, but I couldn’t let the symbol be too obivous, eh? <D Since we’re on snakes, they’ve also been used to represent trickery and seduction, so that works too I guess?

Buuuutt he’s got legs! Not a snake! Yeah, he’s a snake-like dragon, sinewy dragons that have legs but move more like snakes. Dragons are typically guards or guardians of treasure - Pecto is protective of his team/family, that’s his treasure ;v; Interestingly, many-headed snakes have also been used to represent guardians, take the Hydra for instance, as well as two-headed beasts, like Orthrus (two-headed dog in Greek mythology). 

Then there’s the spikes/quills, they’ve already been explained by Pecto’s creator, so I’m gonna quote, they “broke off on contact with skin, hurting both him and whoever tried to comfort him… This is the backstory for his fake confidence and need to hide his emotions”.

Finally the tail. Not much on that, I just wanted to include some sort of reference to his weapon, a rapier! Really cool weapon choice ;v;b

I’ve wanted to do some fanart of Pectolite for a while but I’m shit at humans so this is what you get xD I don’t expect you to use this version (like, I’m not gonna go ‘rAWR I drew a thing for you how dare you go and use your own >8U’ haha), though you can if you want to! Sorry if I misinterpreted/portrayed him incorrectly in any way!
