The Jackbox Party Pack 10 - Hypnotorious - Lobby
going to be playing every single jackbox party pack up until the release date of 10!
go to twitch.tv/kherrykandy everyday at 7:50pm EST
I fucking love Tee K.O so much, done with @cutiemonica and @midnightthebree
Dodo Re Mi meta take: Susan and Mario are the best instruments, because they sound genuinely good on their own, they slot well into any tryhard arrangement, and they serve as excellent foils to any of the gimmick instruments. They go especially well with Constant Screaming (my favorite gimmick instrument)
a losers first impression of jackbox party pack 10, brought to you by ✨the entire autism spectrum (me✨
preface:
- this assumes you know how these games work already
- i only played these online, over discord. some of these might work better irl, idk
- these are my first impressions after playing for like, 2 hours. not a review! probably not even factually correct! i didn’t do much research!
- opinions are my own please don’t livestream the outside of my house if you disagree etc etc etc
INTO THE IMPRESSIONS!
DODOERMI: this is my personal favourite in the pack… but that’s just because i’m a rhythm game fan. this game still has issues.
the “tap tap tap” method of syncing at the beginning is a smart idea in theory, but in practice it’s very easy to mess up the timings. oops! now you have to play the whole round on a slight delay! maybe having multiple tap tap taps, or letting players retry until it’s synced to a standard they’re happy with, could work better?
there’s other issues too - it’s not a very jackbox-y feeling game, since there’s not much collaboration or even competition with other people, you just kind of do your own thing at the same time. this game is good for people who like rhythm games, and bad for people who don’t
TKO2: this is just the 1st game but wayyyy better in pretty much every aspect. the bracket tournament format isn’t perfect but it’s miles better than the old one. not much else to say about it. it’s TKO of course it’s fun
TIMEJINX: this game is awesome! the vibes are fantastic and the questions are all worded in a very engaging way. it’s a shame there’s nothing for the non-trivia lovers to munch on, like how TMP does with the minigames between rounds… which means this game is pretty much Just Trivia. as someone who doesn’t like trivia, i personally didn’t like it very much, but i can absolutely understand why some people think it’s the best game in the pack
FIXYTEXT: “chaotic” is definitely the appropriate word here. sometimes the chaos can create the best sentence in the entire world… but other times it’s just incomprehensible nonsense. just a touch of chaos is enough for me personally and this game just DROWNS you in it. and, annoyingly, most of the time i wasn’t even laughing at a smushed together sentence from multiple people! i was laughing more at a raw sentence fragment written by just 1 person.
the scoring system is also really weird. this game probably doesn’t need one since it is just Shitposting: The Game, although maybe there is a better way to score funnyness that i’m not seeing.
idk what to feel about this game, i liked it a lot but that’s due to playing with funny people rather than it being a well-designed and solid concept
HYPNOTORIOUS: what a shame. this game had the chance to be very good, but it’s unfortunately really easy to find out who the outlier is. the hints that the game gives you between each round, alongside people’s answers, means that finding someone else in your same category is a CAKEWALK. before long, two teams are established, and the outlier is basically fucked; none of their previous answers match up with either of the metrics the two teams are looking for. it’s very obvious if you’re the outlier and you get voted out unanimously.
the game is only good for like the second or third time (the first round is terrible because the game doesn’t explain itself until halfway through), and once you figure out the metagame it becomes super easy. i usually like social deduction games but i’m very disappointed :(
OVERALL THOUGHTS: this pack is better than i expected, but my expectations were SUPER low based off of the general description of the games and the honestly really buggy demo. i don’t think i’ll purchase this pack for myself, as i don’t have any real desire to play these games with anyone i know irl. and i already have tko1 which destroys the One reason i might buy this pack. lol. lmao.
Dodo Re Mi is so good (collab with @needsmorebirds)
