Um hey I have a question. When I see someone with a disability like struggling to walk or something is it rude to offer to help them? Cause I want to but I don’t want to seem like I’m better than them or something.
hmm that's one where there's no yes/no answer?? i have experienced time where someone has pushed in and done something for me and it bugged me because like hey, i got this, and there have been other times when i've genuinely needed help and really appreciated someone's offer. just use your best judgement?? if it seems like they're struggling a polite "hey, would you like a hand?" will probably be okay!! my disability is usually invisible, but my friends who use wheelchairs etc have expressed frustration with people assuming that they can't do something even before the person has made an attempt. it's really important to ask before you do anything because it's incredibly violating when people move you without your permission (imagine if someone grabbed you and started moving you around), so i guess my general policy would be
don't assume someone can't do something
if it seems like they need help, make sure your approach is polite and just like, not patronizing??
ask before you do anything
a lot of spaces ARE inaccessible/not easily accessible and help can be needed so yeah!! that's a good question, thanks for asking and i hope my response helped!! if any of my followers with disabilities have any input, that would definitely be welcome since i can only speak for myself!! :*
