I’m so happy Laurie finally got to just speak. That’s all she ever wanted. All she needed was to speak, to breathe, to vent. Honestly it’s hard to be fake. It’s suffocating. Keeping up appearances day in and day out it’s fucking draining. Literally fills up the back of your throat with a guilt shaped lump. Convincing everyone that you live this perfect fantasy life is fucking draining. and convincing yourself? Even harder.
And with that said I’m really happy that all three of them had a moment to just chill together. All three of them sitting on the couch, talking to each other instead of whispering behind each other’s backs. They got to just girls together. And yeah it doesn’t mean everything will be perfect forever one sitting on a couch won’t completely reinvent their relationship with each other or themselves but who cares.
(Random but Kate’s little forehead kiss and Jaclyn’s arm over Kate is SO SWEET it’s so warm and intimate these ladies really love and trust each other its so sweet im gonna cry 😭)
Like Laurie said she doesn’t need a religion or a god to give her life meaning time gives it meaning. So it doesn’t matter what they do or who they become after the trip. Because what matters is now. Time is real. Time is of the essence.
and in that moment they get to just sit together on that couch and talk about innate shit. happy. all happy to just be present. Grateful to just be sitting at the table. It’s sweet and it’s relatable asf and it’s real. I really really love it.
They’ll love each other no matter what.
(Also spoiler but THEY ALL MADE IT OUT ALIVE😝😝)
Desire & Identity in The White Lotus s3
An important theme this season is how our desires tie into our identities, and how holding onto these idealistic mental representations of ourselves we are doing a grave disservice to our actual selves.
Every character in this show has a unique and interesting connection to desire as it relates to identity. But my favorite four characters right now are Frank, Jaclyn, Lochlan, and Saxon. They are all in their own stages of parsing what they want out of life, and who they are as people. Below I go into my thoughts on each of them.
The storyline of the three friends in White Lotus really hits close to home for me—especially Laurie’s final monologue—because that’s exactly what lifelong friendships are like. They’re kind of like family: dysfunctional, messy, complicated. You’ve known these people for so long that you see them clearly, you know all their flaws, and sometimes their flaws hurt you.
But you stay. Because you don’t choose your family, but you do choose your friends—even if sometimes you treat them like shit and they treat you like shit back. It’s like a sibling relationship, only without the blood ties. And if you keep them around, it’s because you want to.
Those friendships aren’t perfect, they’re not some idealised fairytale, but at the end of the day, they’re the ones who listen when your relationship ends, or when your job sucks, or when everything feels like crap. You fight, you throw things (metaphorically or not), but deep down, you know they’ll be there. And that’s the most important thing: no matter how much you mess each other up or scream at each other, you’ll end up having dinner at some fancy place, saying how much you love each other.
That storyline hit me so hard because it felt so real. And honestly? That’s what matters in the end. They’re your fucking friends. They stick around when you’re the worst version of yourself. That’s worth everything.
