Somehow I missed the part where New York City specifically commissioned the artist John Wesley Jarvis to paint Napoleonic Sexyman portraits of assorted War of 1812 military leaders??

The portraits are even noted by War of 1812 vet Captain Frederick Marryat in his late 1830s travelogue Diary in America:

In the large room of [New York City Hall] are some interesting pictures and busts of the presidents, mayors of the city, and naval and military officers, who have received the thanks of Congress and the freedom of the city. Some are very fair specimens of art: the most spirited is that of Commodore Perry, leaving his sinking vessel, in the combat on the Lakes, to hoist his flag on board of another ship.

This is the portrait of Perry by Jarvis, and it is indeed one of his best representations:

What really sent me down the rabbit hole was a sexyman portrait of Jacob Jennings Brown of all people: previously featured on this blog with a not-so-flattering portrait by the same artist.

Damme! The rest of the collection is equally impressive. I had no idea Captain Isaac Hull of USS Constitution was so pleasingly plump.

'Gonna be sore:' La. troopers boasted of beating Black man

Louisiana State Police troopers joked in a group text about beating a Black man after a high-speed chase last year, saying the “whoopin” would give the man “nightmares for a long time,” according to new court filings. “He gonna be sore tomorrow for sure,” Trooper Jacob Brown, who was charged in the case and resigned Wednesday, texted three of his colleagues.

“At no time did Harris resist arrest,” the State Police internal investigation concluded.

The troopers produced “wholly untrue” reports saying Harris was resisting and continuing to flee, the filings say, and they sought to conceal from investigators that there was bodycam video.

Imprinting would have been exponentially better if the conditions of imprinting were more family oriented rather than "finding the best breeding stock".

Forget the romantic relationship aspect-it shouldn't even be there. Everyone that imprints should simply see their imprint-ee as someone they love beyond measure- personally I always go back to Jacob speaking to Bella after she found out about him imprinting on Renesmee.

He said "all I want is for her to be safe and happy-is that so bad? So different from what you want?" It is such a poignant quote but it means nothing since, with context, we ALL know that Jacob will eventually develop a romantic relationship with Renesmee. It could have so easily been made to be wholesome and 100% less pedophilic if his relationship with Renesmee was immediately written off as an Uncle role. Like, just let him be a caring adult figure in her life. I'm begging you-
