i wonder if the writers of season 8 regret what they did with the show or if they have too much pride to admit they took a wrong turn with it. have they spoken of that season since then?
No that I know to any of this. They were pretty nasty when talking about what they were doing, openly saying they didn’t understand JH’s relationship/didn’t like it and so they decided to end that.
Lots of changes were done and it was obvious the fans didn’t like it all to the point its said fans on the tappings of the show were kinda asses to a cast member and well, at the end they decided to end the show (here’s a thing, though. I have read in lots of places the show was actually canceled, but I actually have no iea. But when they cancel a show like this when all this is happening, you know you fucked up).
A part of them may be ashamed of that, you know? It was a famous show and they pretty much ruined it and it was obvious that they did it. But it has also been a lot time, and we fans still remember and suffer because we love the show and these characters, relationship and so. But them? It was a job, one they took without knowing what it was, they obviously didn’t even understood the characters and what they were to so many people, so they may not think much about it.
But if they do, I hope they know they fucked up big time and people are not going to forget that.
gif request - in season 2 where hyde tells jackie she can do better than kelso and jackies says what if she never finds anybody else
Here you go :)
was there any indication that hyde still loved jackie in season 8? i only was able to watch like 4 episodes and they werent in order. I think i just saw the first two, the valentines day ep and the finale.
I saw the first episode, the one where Jackie falls and gets super dirty and Hyde is like 3% nice to her, and the finale, so I’m not sure I can answer this as good as one can do. Except that I know for spoilers and conversations with my friends a few things.
Okay, let’s put on the heart eyes to talk about this shit. Here comes the long ass meta after the cut, pals!
any idea why Jackie said she didnt feel anything in Jackie Bags Hyde when she kissed Steven? She was chasing him for a while and then once she kissed him she was like "oh i felt nothing"
The real answer is that the writers thought ending that story line like that wasn’t going to left as many questions as it did. Who knows why they decided to break it that way. One of the many things went wrong.
The in universe answer may be something I think most of us agree, that she just couldn’t identify was what she was feeling in that moment, because it was too diferent from what she once felt while with Kelso.
It’s not familiar and we tend to get scared at unfamiliar stuff, especially when is too intense. My headcanon is that she felt numb after the explosion inside her belly, because honestly this kiss looks like the bomb:
The other option is that she just decided to lie because of the intensity of it. Again, she has been hurt many times before and she knows Hyde’s story with girls. He doesn’t date, he has a record of having the same girl for the long of a week. What tells her it could work out?
He rejected her a million times, and would had he said the truth? We know that there’s a big chance that he would, but she doesn’t. She needed the Kelso experience all over again to finally understand that she doesn’t need that shit, and that she needs to start trusting him and her instincts.
i cant help but think of jackie and hyde when i listen to the song "Rebel" by Nikki Flores. You should check it out, It explains Hyde pretty well.
My heart just broke a little after hearing this song. You are right, it kinda descrives Hyde.
What a mood for the holiday, lol.
I wish the writers brought up more of Jackie's childhood and how she really felt about being brought up materialistically. I feel like she must've been confused when people thought she was spoiled and annoying when really it was her parents way of showing her they "loved" her. Like buying her barbie dolls and clothes when sometimes she probably just wanted a hug or quality time with her parents. Its embarrassing how much I think about this haha.
Don’t be embarrassed, I think about it all the damn time.
I also think it must had been a big time surprise for her to grow up and realize the way her parents educated wasn’t exactly the right one. In my mind, I believe Jackie started to realize this even before she started to date Kelso, and the reason she wanted to stay down the basement was because she had found a place where things weren’t like her home and she had started to serch for a better way to felt included and loved.
Yet, her experiences before the basement is also something that I feel made Jackie unable to see when people is being trash to her. She grow up in a world of bullys like we have seen some of the cheerleaders she used to hang out with, which means most of her friends pre-show may be like them too. Maybe that’s why she keeps coming back to the basement too, because she can’t see the gang’s insults as something truly bad. AKA she is used to it, so in her young mind she thinks it’s ok.
I also feel like the most the show gets going, she seems to understand it’s not okay the way she is trated by so many. Sadly, the writers did little to work on this and let the rest of the cast keep trashing on Jackie. The ones that do it the less are first Donna, and then Hyde. I don’t inclue s1 to 3 Fez in this because he only saw her as some kind of prize to win and that’s not cool, that’s not respecting her at all.
When Donna starts seeing Jackie as human being, she starts being a friend to her too. Jackie works hard to win her place as Donna’s friend, and she is rewarded with support and care from Donna. Yet, the show made the mistake of always make Jackie into this… target they used to light up Donna’s character, instead of using their differences to create a more complex and realistic female friendship one could actually love like they did with Eric and Hyde.
Jackie may compare her friendship with Donna to the one she once had with the cheerleaders and other people, and I think she finds it more real and important what she has with Donna than what she ever had with anybody else. Then comes Hyde, and things change for her again.
Being with Hyde makes her realize her own worth and strenght, and Donna encourages that part of her (maybe not her relationship at first -or actually ever but ok-) because she’s been trying to make Jackie understand she doesn’t need that old part to her to be happy. Once Jackie understands this, she becomes a better version of herself and I believe an even happier one.
WHAT I’m truly curious about is how was her childhood. Did she had more family? Cousins? Annoying uncles and aunts? Grandparents? No one takes her when she is abandoned by her mother, and we can say it’s because she doesn’t want anyone to know, but REALLY. Are the Burkharts only Jackie and his family? lol
