7 years ago down in the lively blue sea…
Beneath these beautiful waters is where your younger self would usually hangout in the amazingly colorful coral fields. It wasn’t that far from home, so your mother was comfortable with you going there daily. As soon as you get there, you lay down on your favorite striped rock to finally get some peace. Both your arms act as a pillow for your head as you close your eyes, enjoying the sunlight beaming down. But right as you began relaxing, the light was being blocked. “Huh?” Your eyes slowly opened to find a boy your age inches away from your face. “GAHHHH!” Startled, you accidentally butted heads causing the two of you to groan. Your hand rubbed the bruise on your forehead to ease the pain. “Did ya really have to do that?! Geez, ouch!” He whined as he turned to look at you.
“You’re kidding me right?! Who told you to be such a creep to be that close?” You winced as you applied a little too much pressure against your skin. And that is the day you met a young Floyd Leech. The two of you bicker away, not noticing the audience of the other two. “It’s your fault!” Your forehead pushing against his. “My fault? You’re the one who butted heads against me!” He argued back. His sharp teeth were in full view as he gritted them together. “Alright, alright break it up you two.” Jade finally stepped in to bring some distance amongst you two. Still annoyed, you crossed your arms as you tilted your chin up the other way. “Hmph!”
While you let the three boys know you’re still displeased with the situation, your mother started calling for you. “Y/N! Y/N! Come back! Lunch time!” She shouted way off. Without hesitation, you swam away but not before sticking your tongue out at them. As you swim away, the three boys look together and chuckle. “She’s a feisty one— I like her!” Floyd cheered as he turned to his brother. Azul shakes his side to side in disbelief. “You may like her but it seems she hates you. Why were you even that close to her in the first place?” He turned to his friend curiously. “Oh because a shrimp was about to go into her ear.” Holding the little fearful creature in his hand. But nevertheless he let it go to his dismay. “Well maybe give her a warning next time.” Azul signed. “I agree, Floyd.” Jade spoke up. “You think she’ll come again?” Floyd asked, turning his head towards the direction you swam off to. “Hmm maybe?” Azul lifting his shoulders wondering the same thing.
Luckily for them, you did return! However, as soon as you saw them, you wanted to turn back. “Hey wait! Aren’t you going to hangout here?” Floyd screamed. Fists clenched, and an irritated smile rose, “No, cause I don’t want to hangout with creeps or their friends.” Your back was turned to them, ready to swim back home. But before you could, your path was being blocked by the young eel. “Oh come on, you’re no fun.” You turned the other way only for your path to be blocked again. “Would you stop that!” You quickly swam up where he chased you. Amazed by his speed you swim even faster all around the coral field to lose him but yet his pace never faltered. Exhausted, you rest on your favorite rock wheezing to catch your breath. “Why are you so fast?” You asked in between gasps. “I don’t know. I just like to race Little Scallop hehehe!”
“Scallop?… Wait a second, you mean me?! How am I a scallop?” You asked childishly. Floyd smirks as he points to your flowy tail, “There’s your answer. Hehehe. Your tail shape looks like a scallop shell.” You puff your cheeks as you deny such a nickname. Once again, Azul and Jade watch amused by the two of you bickering. “Will they ever stop?” Azul turned to Jade jokingly. “Only time will tell I’m afraid.” Jade replied, smiling at that question.
Since then, let’s say you had no other choice to hangout with the trio since they now occupy your favorite hangout area. Slowly but surely, you got used to their company. However the bickering between you and Floyd never stopped. It never gets old. You became best friends. You were so close that you invited them back to your place. Your mother was more than thrilled to see you make such lovely friends. Your father on the other hand— let's just say he made a pact with the boys. Finally! Boys that understand how precious you are and that you need to be protected at all cost. These three knuckleheads have officially become your body guards. Wherever you’re going, they’re coming along. You didn’t mind since you never had company with you to explore around. Plus it is a massive bonus since your mother is at ease if the boys are with you.
After they had the pleasure of meeting your parents, best bet they’d introduce you to theirs. You immediately won the hearts of the Leech twins' parents. As soon as they got word of your arrival, everything was thrown to the side to finally meet you. Floyd was a lot like his mother while Jade shared a lot of resemblance to his father. My, my what a day. They showed you around their mansion as the twins swam bordely behind. They’ve even gone as far to invite you to stay for the night, but you humbly declined. After that hectic day, you had to visit Azul’s residence where you met his mother. She intimidated you the first few minutes with just a single brow raised. Thankfully she’s nicer than she looks as she babied you like the daughter she never had. Feeds you till you're slowly weighed down by the food. The boys can only stay envious of the love you’re showered with. But you never changed then or now. Your connection to them only got stronger.
Soon you are no longer children, you’re now a young obnoxious teenager who very well defines what trouble is. It is typically you and Floyd who make the mess with Azul and Jade cleaning it up after. It's an endless cycle. But you all love it either way.
One day as you four were exploring, you found the greatest treasure under the sea. A wall with a window still attached with interesting designs around it. “Woah! Check this out guys!” You swim around it cautiously but ever so curious. “I wonder where this came from?” Azul spoke up as he fixed his glasses. Your smile widened as you found another piece though it looked a lot like a pillar. “It's beautiful.” A hand slowly touches the etching to be fascinated by such delicate details. “They are but I don’t think we should stay for long.” Jade warns calmly. “Ehh why not?” You cried out. “Scallop, the sun is going down. Come on, I wanna go home. I need cuddles before the day ends.” Floyd yawns after finishing his sentence.
Sad but understanding, you returned home though not before giving Floyd his daily dose of cuddles. This boy loves to cuddle! You discovered that the day you made the mistake of trying to scare him by hugging him from behind. From there on out, Floyd demands cuddles. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow!” You waved them goodbye as you swam to your front door.
4 years later getting accepted into college…
“Hey check it out, Scallop! We got accepted to Night Raven College!” Floyd waved his letter around. Jade holding the same letter and smiling proudly. Azul too was sharing a delightful grin of happiness. You on the other hand could only add a sorrowful smile. “Is something wrong, Y/N?” Jade asked, knowing that smile anywhere. “No, n-nothings wrong.” The boys all shared glances, as if! Not when you sound like that. “Come on Scallop, tell us!” Floyd pouted.
Defeated by the terrifying stares of doom, you pull out your own acceptance letter. Azul reads it closely, the first line is all he needs to read. “Dear Y/N, I would like to formally welcome you to Royal Sword Academy…” Silence. “Did I hear you wrong?” Floyd shouted, hand snatching the piece of paper out of the octopus’s merman hand. “No. No! NO!” Why? Does the universe find it funny? “I don’t want to be separated from, Scallop!” His body clung onto yours. “It seems we have no other choice.” Jade adds as he too hugs you closely and worryingly. “Will you at least visit us?” Azul asked frightfully.
“Of course I will! I promise. But believe me, I’m just as hurt.” Hugging the twins tightly. “You guys are my world.” Your head rests against their broad shoulders.
“You’re a part of our world too, Y/N.” They all spoke in harmony by accident. This won a symphony of laughter from all of you to comfort yourselves of the upcoming future.

☾ - summary: when you overhear someone in the hallway talking about your boyfriend, you can’t help but intervene.
The halls of Night Raven College were bustling and conversation flowed around you as you tried your best to push your way through the crowds so that you could make your way to your next class. You knew that if you were late again, Crewel was going to lecture you, and the last thing you needed one a day like today was a teacher ripping into you.
With forced determination, you shouldered past a small group of students but just as you were about to turn to corner to head towards your classroom, the sound of a familiar name caught your attention. You didn’t recognize the voice who spoke it, but your footsteps hesitated as you couldn’t help but listen in to what they were saying.
“…with the semester ending at least we won’t have to see the Leech twins anymore. God, they give me the creeps.”
“Yeah, they’re so tall and imposing and always up to something shady. Not to mention, Jade’s fake formalities are disgusting and annoying.”
You came to a complete stop when you realized that you hadn’t been mistaken and that they actually were talking about your boyfriend, and your entire body bristled at the insults they were sharing about him. It wasn’t the first time you had heard such crude remarks during your time at Night Raven, but that didn’t change the way you felt when you heard them. Jade always brushed them off, but you weren’t quite that refined.
“Do you guys have a problem over here?” You seethed, your words coming out as a low hiss as you injected yourself into their circle of conversation. They hadn’t even seen you walk over to them, and they, unsurprisingly, looked puzzled when they realized that your malicious words and expression were directed at them.
“I’m sorry?” One of them asked, and you couldn’t help but laugh, despite there not being a drop of humor in it.
“You should be considering you’re over here talking horrendously about someone you don’t even know. The Leech twins give you the creeps, eh? How about I give you something else?”
Your fist was already raised in the air when, suddenly, a hand gently wrapped around it to stop you. It felt like your entire body was vibrating with rage, and you were just about to elbow the person for intervening, but with one quick glance over your shoulder, you were met with a familiar smile and head of teal and black hair. Sharp teeth glistened in the hall lighting, and your body instantly deflated as your arm lowered back to your side.
“I appreciate you stepping in on our behalf, my love, but that really is quite unnecessary.”
There was something about the sound of Jade’s voice that always brought about a wave of serenity blanketing over you. With his hand still holding your fist, his touch brought an added soothing quality with it, and you felt the tremors of your anger start to subside.
“I was just going to kindly remind them to keep their mouths shut,” you cooed innocently, and Jade chuckled. Over his shoulder, you could hear Floyd laugh - as he was never too far away - and the smile that settled onto your face became a genuine one.
“You’re cute when you’re fired up,” Jade replied, his free hand lifting to cup your chin so as to tilt your head up so that you could look him in the eyes properly. He bent down slowly until he was at your eye level, and you felt your breath catch in your throat as the distance between you shrank. “But please, don’t be going and getting into trouble because of the people around here that don’t like me. I simply wouldn’t forgive myself.”
You pouted briefly before nodding in understanding, and Jade’s smile grew.
“Good. Now, how about I treat you to lunch at the Lounge?” Your brow furrowed in response.
“But, class…” You started to retort, but the look he gave you caused the rest of your words to die on your lips.
“I insist.”
His heterochromatic eyes glowed with a mixture of mischief and adoration that made your stomach twist and your heart flutter. It was such a familiar look, and yet one that you could never say no to.
“Okay.”
Giving in to him was easy. And as your fist loosened and Jade was able to slip his fingers between yours, he led you towards the Hall of Mirrors to head to the Mostro Lounge. You didn’t even turn to see how the students you had threatened had reacted to the entire exchange, and you found that you truly couldn’t care less. They had already been long forgotten the second Jade’s hand had wrapped around yours. As for Crewel and his class that you were missing, that was a punishment you would have to face later.

As a princess you are forbidden or annoyingly restricted from doing certain things but that doesn’t mean you don’t break the rules once or twice— okay maybe a couple of times. The halls are empty and quiet as sleep roams around leisurely. However, you’re wide awake and eager to venture outside because someone is waiting for you whose just as excited. You slowly opened your door to find the halls completely open, no one in sight. With just a warm cape and a candle at hand, you made your way through the castle with as much caution as you could. Luckily, there’s an exit where no guards stay stationed once night falls. Although you really dislike the groaning it makes when the door is turning. After moving far enough at a safe distance, you run as far as you can till you reach the beach.
Your lungs take a nice big deep inhale of the salty ocean air. From there you walk your way to a specific cave that is marked by a shell stuck by the entrance. You made your way inside with the candle lighting your way before you arrived. “Jade? Jade? Are you here?” As soon as your voice bounces off the walls, a head emerges from the water. His eyes were the only thing you could see before he rose high enough to show his entire upper body. “There’s my Prince!” You chirped as his cheeks slightly reddened. You took a nice seat against a smoothened rock as you set the candle aside. His webbed hand took yours as he laid a gentle kiss upon it. “I missed you, My Pearl.” He lays his head onto your lap, cheeks nudging against your soft skin. “Too long…” He grumbled anxiously as he heard you happily chuckle.
“I know but you already know how things are?” Your hand combs through his hair as he starts to purr relaxingly. “Plus I got extra eyes on me this year, my coming of age party is soon to come. Then I’ll have to worry about being betrothed…” At the very sound of that he shoots up, his arms protectively wrapping around you. “Mine.” He claimed, his chin resting on your chest as he pouts. Your head shook left and right, “I know Jade but I’ll have to get married at one point. If I could, I would trade my legs for a beautiful tail.” What a beautiful delusion that would be. Jade’s eyes widened, his arms loosened for him to jump back into the water. “Come with me.” His hand reached out to you in the water. “I can’t swim Jade.” You curiously warned him as he frowned. “Don’t need to, I’ll give you air.” At the very thought, your head started steaming. “N-No Jade. I’m sorry I can’t—” You were cut off as you see the sun rising. “Shoot! I gotta go!”
But before you can move another inch, his hand tugs on your dress. His eyes were begging you to stay. “Stay? Please? My Mate?” Once again you kneel, “I wish Jade. I really do. But I must go for I, a land dweller, can’t go where you can and neither could you. Sorry My Love. Maybe one day?” You bid him goodbye with a kiss to the forehead. “Stay safe!” You waved him goodbye and rushed back as quickly as you could before you got scolded by your father or worse by the head maid. She’s always extra stern with you.
Jade stays there floating, watching your figure disappear, “Come back soon, Y/N.” He stares down at the gift he prepared from countless nights of no sleep. It was a pearl necklace, with the shiniest and finest quality, he hand picked them himself. The thread that is strung through is also hand made by him, made out of the softest kelp out there. He was so distracted by the idea of letting you meet Azul that he forgot to give it to you. “Next time?” He questioned, his voice blue as the sea wondering if he’ll even be able to see you again. Who knows what might happen up there? “Stay safe too…”
