i definitely feel all of this and i think one of the loose ends i dislike about how nona just Ends is how there's no resolution on the Problem Of Paul. but at least for myself i wouldn't phrase these feelings as a "complaint" because i don't think we're supposed to be happy about paul? i mean cam and pal are essentially dead, i think unhappiness is probably the intended effect...
jury IS out on whether i like this narrative decision ultimately though
Yeah it’s a bit mild to be a legit complaint but when Nona first came out I saw a lot of posts complaining about people ‘complaining’ about Paul so I figured I would flag myself as a Hater.
The Nona/Alecto split does leave it hanging, yeah. I’m inclined to read it as one more tragedy of a necro/cav pairing leading to destructive consumption, and certainly Harrow spends the whole book unpacking the destructive consumption at the end of Gideon. But Cam and Pal view it as a triumph, or at least the closest to a victory they can obtain, and since we mostly see what they have to say about it, it’s hard for me to tell if the narrative itself sees this as a good thing or not. I suppose Time Will Tell.
Since Nona was also a hater I was reminded of the bit near the end of Good Omens when Adam sees Aziraphale stuck in Madame Tracy and goes “it’s not right being two people. you’d better go back to being two separate people” and promptly unzips them. It would be very funny if Alecto did that at the start of the next book bc she simply does not vibe with this, but not particularly narratively unsatisfying. I’d still take it though.
