*Super Self-Indulgent Mini Sequel
*mumbles something vague about working on a mini-sequel*
Here are Jadelle, Codarin, and their daughters, Leva and baby Cazella. By the current/sequel time frame the girls are both in their 20s, but I wanted to draw them as a young family. Jadelle and Codarin are the first biracial couple to appear in the story (although it isn't that rare in-universe), and their daughters are the first of my characters to be half Lanarian, half Vincaran.
Just a word of warning
Disclaimer: I understand that different people react very differently to different forms of birth control so my experience is not the be all and end all and that people can have positive experiences with this.
However. I want to say this as a word of warning to people considering the birth control implant. I had the worst experience with it. It gave me crazy mood swings, it gave me an insatiable appetite which causes me to relapse back into my eating disorder, and it makes me so paranoid, anxious and desperate that I tried to cut it out of my arm myself (NEVER DO THAT ITS VERY DANGEROUS, GO TO A DOCTOR ITS A SUPER SIMPLE PROCEDURE) so please if you are considering the birth control implant please consider that these things could happen and whether they are worth the ease of the implant because I understand it is very convenient and effective but honestly I would much rather take a pill daily than spend all my time being miserable

If you’re thinking about Long Term Reversible Contraception in New Zealand or other non-US countries, try Jadelle!
What is it?
Jadelle, also known as the contraceptive implant, are small rods that are positioned in the arm under the skin. Jadelle works by slowly releasing progestogen into your body, a hormone that works to stop you from releasing an egg, as well as thickening the mucus in the cervix to create a barrier against sperm. The thought of having the rods under your skin may sound uncomfortable, but the procedure is quick and painless, and a lot of the time I simply forget it's there! It also helps to know that the rods are tiny, about as small as a bobby pin, and flexible enough to move with your body.
Brooke’s Experience:
I got my implant done at my nearest family planning clinic, under a local injection that numbed the area. I didn't watch during the most part, but it was over before I knew it. After that I got bandaged up with steristrips, and sent on my way. I did have some bruising for a couple of days after, and I now have a small scar at the insertion point. I will also have another scar when I get them removed, which will be after 5 years since I have 2 rods (3 years if you have 1).
Everyone reacts differently to the hormone once it has been introduced to your body, so I didn’t know what to expect. I knew of some friends who had gotten Jadelle, and their periods had completely disappeared. For the first 3 weeks or so I had near constant bleeding, and I was considering having the implant removed, especially after I only got 2 days reprieve before I began my period again. This settled down reasonable quickly though, and I now have my period once every 2-3 months. The clinic advised that my body would generally settle into a predictable pattern after the first year, which I have found to be true. As I mentioned though, this is different for everybody. Some might experience bleeding that is lighter, heavier, more irregular, completely absent or more frequent than previously. Overall, I recommend Jadelle to people who may have trouble remembering to take a pill every day, or want the peace of mind of a highly effective contraceptive. Another awesome thing is that you will get a 100% return to your previous fertility once the implant has been removed, which you can choose to do at any time.
Pros:
Long term contraceptive
No need to think about it once it has been inserted.
Over 99% effective.
Cheap! (While the implant itself was free, I had to pay $25 NZ to cover the cost of the local injection.)
Cons:
Unpredictable reaction.
Possible change to cycle and bleeding.
Bruising and pain after insertion.
Possibility of taking 3-6 months to regain a regular cycle after removal
Difference between Jadelle and Nexplanon:
What you get out of Jadelle (the implant available in New Zealand) verusus Nexplanon (the more common implant used in the USA) are fairly similar. The each use a different type of the same hormone (progesterone) and have similar symptoms and unpredictability.
Note: The process of receiving Jadelle, including costs, are based off of my personal experience while living in New Zealand, and may vary in different countries.

Since making my covenants with God, and vowing to chastity I decided to get my Jadelle (birth control) removed from my arm. This is a part of my journey. P.S. The wine is not mine, it’s my partners P.S. My new found religious views do not stop my partner from being who he is. Jesus made wine for his servants but it does not mean he drank. Jesus spent time with sinners and those in need of healing, not those who thought they were fine without him.

Hey! i'm on the jadelle implants and i've been on them for ~2.5 months (start of Aug '13). before jadelle i was on the pill for 4 years, no issues. but since jadelle i have only had 1 withdrawal period in the 1st week(because i stopped taking the pill) and none since. i've had really intense back pains and period-like pains since last period. negative preg. test at the doctors and no preg symptoms. i know some women don't get their periods on jadelle, but thoughts?
Not all birth control methods have the same side affects. Even if your implant is supposed to be clinically similar to your pill, it can still produce totally different side affects. So it’s probably just your system adjusting to it.
