This book is written by a non trans person for other non trans people.

The constant misgendering, misogynistic, white knighting, childlike purity is too overbearing. Its unreadable.

If Simon was perhaps terribly maimed for using the wrong pronouns. Everytime. I would feel different.

ch14 end/beg ch15 OH ho ho ho. I cannot wait! for Simon to be eviscerated. He thinks hes a white knight. but honey. you are a terrible person. honestly the narrator's voice is...not the choice i would make. i would make it a deeper voice. more typical military person.

Who on this ship knows about Simon's contract? It's a research ship right? There has to be other research things going on. But Dr. Halooder's primary research seems to be Simon. The galley crew probably doesn't know or care.

Ch 13 /39 Jailmates

I am disappointed in how the author has set up this book.

Author tells us that Simon is used to researching, i dont think like was used. But we are shown hes a cautious person. He takes like 10 chapters to even sign the contract.

But does he read it? Well no. Because the plot cant happen if he does read it.

I get the Verasssi doctor, Hooper(?), is supposed to be the time pressure. But there is no real threat.

The desicion needed a believeable time pressure or threat. Simon is fight adverse. Pop in some scavengers/pirates/space enemies that attack the military ship. He leaves now with the Verassi or stays in an active fire zone. No brainer that he will leave.

There is also supposedly real time pressure for Morn to initiate the contract. Simon "cares about people" and is definately attracted to Morn. He would feel obligated to help asap. I say throw him in with minimal augments or not fully adgusted ones. Season this half baked idea with some angst and hurt.

Then use the fact that was not scientific at all and wont hold up to peer review to get out of the contract. Sue them for millions profit!!

Because I'm sick and need something i can tune in and out of. But not vested in.

Or so i thought. I actually liked the first few chapters and expo dump. It was a little dumpy but i didn't feel like it was dry or excessive.

But that's not what I'm here to say.

They brush off nonbinaryness. In the first three chapters. We know LI, Morna, is not a woman. The cover and lgbt tag tells us that. The scientists says THAT society doesnt use pronouns. But roughly translated the pronouns for LI are fae/fir!!! But also they/them. And i whattttt??

Not ready for that gut punch while listening to this with a fever.
