OMG YOUR AMAZING
Clare/Jake Story~
“Everyone keeps claiming that I only care about myself. But is it so wrong to want to be happy?”
Clare sat on the couch, curled up in the corner as she watched the TV screen. She wasnt sure exactly what was on but she stared at it aimlessly as her mind fluttered over her day. She tried not to dwell on things but it was always hard for her when it came to that. Overthinking was her specialty. She’d let it get to her all day that she knew Jake could tell she was glum. She felt bad but didnt think sparing him the details would be such a terrible idea. She picked up the remote and sighed as she flipped through the channels, ignoring her mom or Glen as they moved in and out of the room. They were busy looking through catalogs in the kitchen for things to redecorate which didnt interest her or Jake at all. He had disapeared into his room and she contemplated whether or not she was going to go up there but was saved the decision when he entered the room. He flashed her a smile and she smiled in return as he sat beside her and wrapped his arms around her waste. “Jake…” she said, timid of the fact that their parents were in the other room but he didnt care. He kissed her cheek and then her neck, holding her close to him. “Are you sure you’re okay?” He asked caringly and she simply nodded. Again he kissed her cheek, and she looked up at him. He could tell she was lying, something was making her sad but he wasn’t going to pry. Instead, he took her hand and tugged lightly as he stood up from the couch. “Come on.” He said quietly, placing his finger infront of his mouth to tell her to stay quiet. A confused look covered her face and she chuckled lightly as she followed after him. He led her to the door, careful to stay as quiet as possible as he opened it and they slipped out. “What are we doing?” She asked once it was safe to speak. Jake shrugged as he opened the passengers side of the truck for her. “Getting out. Seems like you need it.” He smiled as he climbed in and started the car. “We’ll probably get in trouble for going out without saying anything.” Again he shrugged, “They’ll get over it. It’s the least they can do after putting us through all that wedding crap. I mean I actually wore a suit. I’m not really the suit kinda guy.” He chuckled and started the truck, pulling away from the house. ‘Ugh, don’t remind me. I’m still getting over the emotional scarring.” Jake smirked, “Whatever do you mean sis?” Clare cringed, “Ew. Please never say that again. I will not refrain from pinching you until you bleed.” “Can we make it biting instead?” He asked with a wink and Clare’s cheeks blushed red as she smiled and rolled her eyes. “Were exactly are we going?” She asked but he shook his head. “You’ll see.” It wasn’t until a while later that they pulled into the park. Which wasn’t until after he had stopped at the grocery store, leaving Clare in the truck until he came out with a bag. He still didn’t tell her what was in it even as they got out. Taking her hand with his own, he led her towards a picnic table and she smiled as she followed after him. She already felt slightly better. He was good at keeping her mind off of things. They made it to the table and he sat the bag down, then sat on the top of it, pulling her to sit beside him. She chuckled as she watched him reach into the bag and pulled out a tub of ice cream and a pack of plastic spoons. “I guess there’s no way to just buy two so I got a few extras,” he laughed, “And I know vanilla is your favorite so I figured it would be the best to get.” She looked at him with surprise but her face softened to a warm smile. “You know my favorite kind?” He shrugged, “I pay more attention than you think.” With a grin she leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his lips, her stomach exploding with butterflies as she pulled back and he handed her a spoon and then opened the ice cream. “You know, you’re lucky it’s the summer. Any other time of year and it would be freezing out here. Ice cream would be completely mental.” Jake nodded, wrapping his free arm around her. “I just thought it would be nice for you to get out since you seemed so down. And well I know girls like ice cream when they’re sad.” He looked at her and again, she kissed him. He was right, she did need to get out and it was nice to spend time with him without worrying about their parents. “Thank you, this is great,” she smiled and leaned her body into his as she took a spoonful of the ice cream. “And who knows,” he began, “I may even push you on the swings” his smirk spoke wonders and Clare couldn’t help but laugh.
Jake wanted to do whatever he could to take Clare’s mind off of whatever was bothering her. She wouldn’t tell him what was bugging her, but he didn’t want to push it out of her. He did what he did best, and that was treating her like a queen. He felt guilty for not spending too much time with her the past few days, but he was helping his father with work. But he was here now and he wanted to make this time special. They continued to eat the cold treat in the warm Summer’s night. He couldn’t help but stare at his beautiful girlfriend for a moment. He was so glad that he’s able to call her that again. The beginning of the Summer very different without her and even though they’re officially step-siblings now, none of his feelings have changed. It just made their relationship more adventurous. He snapped back into reality and continued to eat the ice cream. “I really would’ve though of you as a chocolate flavored girl.” he commented and smirked. “…and why is that?” she asked with a curious tone. “Because it’s just as sweet as you.” he whispered as he inched closer to her face and left a passionate kiss on her lips. He smiled intently at her after his corny joke. “Enough of this child’s play…” he got up from the bench and looked out towards the rest of the park, “Let’s go play on the swings.” he said as his face lit up like a child’s. “I swear, you’re just like a child.” Clare said as she laughed, “I’ll race you there!” They both got up and starting running towards the swing set. Jake felt like all his troubles were gone. It was like being a kid again, but this time with the love of his life. Clare gained a slight lead, but he surprised her by picking her up in his arms and swinging in full circles. The dizziness caught up with them as they collapsed to the cold grass. The stars were shining brighter than ever tonight and they both were captivated. Jake pulled her close to him and kissed her lightly on the forehead. “I’ve really missed the days like these.” He stared directly into her bright blue eyes. Clare looked straight towards the sky then back at her amazing boyfriend. “So have I.” “Things have been so different, but were together again, and that’s all that matters.” Those words meant so much Jake. He still loved her so much, and knew that it wouldn’t change anytime soon. He still was slightly worried about Clare’s sad appearance before. “Hey Clare?” She looked up at him as to respond. “You would tell me if something was wrong, right?” He looked at her with a worried expression.
Her smile faultered and she pouted out her bottom lip. “There, you see?” He said as he touched her lips, “Where’s that cute smile?” Clare sighed. She still didn’t feel comfortable telling him. How was she supposed to let him know that she was upset because her ex-boyfriend was having trouble being her friend? It wasn’t exactly something you should tell your current boyfriend whom you just got back together with. She pushed herself up and shook her head, “I promise I’m fine.” He sat up too and just looked at her, waiting for her to continue and she blushed. She hated how he seemed so understanding, like even though she wouldn’t tell him, he was waiting patiently for her to feel comfortable enough to share. “Are we going to swing?” She asked, changing the subject. Jake nodded and she stood up, brushing herself off before she took his hand and he stood too. They made their way to the swings and Clare sat down while Jake pulled the swing back. He let her fall forward and she smiled as he pushed herm back and forth she went, higher and higher but the more quiet they were the more her mind was able to wander. “I love you.” He spoke loud enough for her to hear and it broke her from her thoughts. She could feel her heart swell but she couldn’t see him. So instead, she yelled it back. “I love you too!” She said loudly and heard him chuckle from behind her. She put her feet down to stop herself and when she’d almost come to a complete stop she turned to look at him. “I love you too.” She said quieter this time as he walked around to stand infront of her. He placed his hands on the chains of the swing and leaned down, kissing her briefly. “Whatever’s wrong,” he started, “I’m sure everything will be okay. No matter what it is. I’ll be here for you.” She smiled and nodded before looking down at her hands which laid settled in her lap. It wasn’t for a few more moments of silent before she spoke. “You don’t think I’m selfish, do you?” She asked curiously. The question caught him offguard. “What? No of course not.” Clare tried to ignore the sound of denial in his tone and sighed. “Everyone keeps claiming that I only care about myself. But is it so wrong to want to be happy?” Jake kneeled down infront of her, so their faces were only a few inches away and shook his head. He placed his hands on her cheeks and looked into her eyes. “Clare, you’ve been through a lot this past year, you deserve to be happy and a little selfish. Your parents divorced, you found out your dad was cheating, had a pretty bad break up and a play written about the relationship it was attached to. And well your mom remarrying… your boyfriends dad, yeah I can see why you’d want to find a little happiness.” She sighed again, “You make me happy. I can’t help it that not everyone agrees with us.” He shook his head, “You can’t live life to please everyone else. But you also have to try and be considerate of everyone else too.” She pouted again, “I’m trying. Really I am. But it’s like one bad thing happens after the other. And now Eli…” she hadn’t realized she was rambling and stopped the moment she said his name. She looked up for Jake’s reaction but it was still the same. He was waiting for her to continue and his lack of jealousy caught her off guard. Then she couldn’t believe how bad it made her seem that she was thinking he’d be jealous for whatever reason. Mentally she kicked herself, and then continued. “He’s acting weird. Like he doesn’t want to be friends.” Jake shrugged, “Give the guy a break. Maybe he just needs some time to himself.” His cool nature was strange to Clare and she nodded. “That’s what everyone’s been saying. I guess I should… I just,” she paused and assessed him, “I don’t really want to lose him as a friend and the thought of it makes me feel… not great.” Jake leaned in and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug. “Everything will be fine Clare. I promise. Just give him some space. I could talk to him for you if you want?” She nearly jumped out of the swing, “NO!” She exclaimed and Jake’s eyes widened. “Okay okay.” He chuckled. Clare looked at her boyfriend in awe. The fact that he trusted her so much was incredible to her. But it was as if since they’d gotten back together that he’d been walking on eggshells around her. He was willing to do anything to make her feel happy. Even allowing her to invite Eli with them to a movie. He just wanted her to be happy, especially after what he had put her through.
He tried to comfort her the best to his ability. His wanted to make everything right for her. Eli would need time for himself and he wanted her to understand that. “Well, enough of this small talk.” He pulled her in and wrapped his arms around he waist. He looked longingly into her eyes and kissed her gently on the lips and slowly moved down to her neck. She put her arms around his neck and closed her eyes so she could enjoy every moment of this. He paused and looked back up at her. “I love you, I really do and we will get through all of this together.” He in a quiet voice, but with so much meaning behind it. This one girl meant the world to him and he wasn’t going to let anything change that. He lost her once and he won’t lose her again. “No matter what problems we have, we have each other to lean on. Just remember I’m always here to help you with anything.” He kissed her again but this time hard and with immense feeling. Once he pulled back, he was frozen in the moment. He was filled with love, and it was truly the best feeling he’s ever had and more importantly, he was spending it with Clare. “It’s getting late, do you wanna go back and watch a movie?” “But our pare-” He stopped her and laughed. “They’re already sleeping by now, Clarebear.” He took her hand and started trailing in the direction of the truck. “We can even watch whatever you want…except Twilight” He said before she the chance to suggest it. They shared a laugh together as they came to the truck. “We really need more nights like these.” Jake said as he helped Clare into the passenger seat. He hopped in and started the car. “Yea we really do. It’s help me forget about all the problems.” She replied as she smiled brightly at Jake. He pulled out and headed towards the Martin-Edwards household.
