As they're forced to face their issues head-on, they uncover their need to accept and understand each other's deepest insecurities. And while their wounds are still fresh--literally and figuratively--they know their only choice is to heal together because they know that they have no choice but to make it through.

Summary:
Jace bounds over and interrupts, putting himself between the two of them. “Hey! Before you say something you regret, just take the assignment. Then you’ll have two days in a row of something else.” Jace pushes gently against Alec’s chest. “Right Alec?”
Tense seconds pass before Alec blinks, steps back and nods. Jace makes a ‘shoo’ motion with his other hand at Sunweather before he spins and leaves.
Turning to Alec, he asks, “You ok?”
“What?” Alec responds, seeming distracted. “Yeah, it’s fine. He was being unreasonable.”
“Mm.” He’s not the only one, Jace thinks frowning, but keeps the thought to himself.

Alec starts acting erratically, Jace is both concerned and turned on, as he tries to figure it out.
34k words, and counting! Not counting quite so fast anymore though, since I’m at a point where I’ve started editing more than just typos.
Summary: Idris and the Downworld are neighbouring countries who have been at war on and off since the first Downworlder was born. After Valentine’s coup and subsequent death, the Lightwoods took over as the ruling family of Idris.
20-some years later, Alec is kidnapped during a routine mission gone wrong, stripped of his runes, and sent to the Downworld’s High Warlock, Magnus Bane, as a mundane courtesan to get him (Alec) out of the way.
Magnus turns out to be nothing like Alec expected, and the two of them hit it off once Alec realises he will in fact not be forced into prostitution. Their budding relationship is only hindered by Alec’s apparent illness, his secret identity, and the war slowly brewing in the horizon.
Malec Wing-fic:
I haven’t worked on it since last week, so still almost 13k.
Summary: Magnus needs a Dragonstone for a potion, but as both the stone and needing it is rare enough that he doesn’t keep it on hand, he needs to buy it - unfortunately, this specific Dragonstone comes with an actual, tiny dragon attached.
Dragons themselves are even rarer than the stones, thought to be extinct by most, so Magnus won’t harm the little creature, but he can’t very well use the stone with the dragon still clinging to it. Enter Alec, who talks the dragon into a trade, and Magnus into keeping the dragon.
What Magnus doesn’t know is that dragons are actually angelic beings, not demonic or ‘neutral’ as most believe, and that, well. Alec is part dragon.
Jalec Dystopia:
Just short of 600 words + a couple comments Word isn’t counting. This is one of those stories where I dreamt one scene, and decided to work out a story it could fit into (so is the royalty one, come to think of it).
Summary: Jace thought he was normal. A little stronger than most, perhaps, but that’s just life for an orphan in a world like this. And the weird creepy... things that no one else seems to notice? Well, he always had a lively imagination.
When he’s 18 (I think, I haven’t decided yet, but somewhere around there) Jace ends up on a facility where mundanes bring people whom they suspect are ‘gifted’.
Through years of trial and error they have found ways to (with some certainty) determine whether their subjects indeed have ‘gifts’ or not, and they are now working on a way to transfer those gifts to others and/or reliably control those born with them.
It quickly becomes clear that Jace is one of the most powerful subjects they’ve ever had at this facility, and also that he is not willing to cooperate.
Izzy, who is undercover as a scientist, helps him escape before he is transferred to a different facility or killed. She contacts Alec, who helps Jace get out of the city and brings him to the Institute. On the way, Alec tells Jace about the Shadowworld and his place in it, and Jace (after a few stops and starts) learns to trust for the first time since he lost his family.
The new Malec one:
Also haven’t touched this since last week, so almost 1200 words, mostly outline.
Summary: Canon compliant up to like, the last ten minutes of the season 3A finale or something. Magnus doesn’t make the deal with Asmodeus because Lorenzo agrees to help at the last minute (why? Who knows). This sets off a ‘small’ chain reaction that means Magnus doesn’t lose his magic, Clary doesn’t disappear, and Jonathan isn’t resurrected.
The story takes place in the aftermath when, for the first time since Magnus and Alec met, they are not at war. No Valentine, no Lilith, no Jonathan. Just the mess they all left behind.
Alec is busy cleaning up said mess, being dragged on more dates than he necessarily wants to (could they maybe just cuddle up on the couch and talk, every once in a while?), and worrying that he’ll mess up again with Magnus and that this time it won’t just be swept under the rug.
(I’m Laziness on Ao3, where these will all be uploaded when they’re done!)

Summary:
“You made me a vow,” Alec answers. “Where thou diest, will I die, and there I will be buried. You were going to break that today to sacrifice yourself, again. You were going to leave me behind—again! And you want to know why I’m doubting you?”
Alec steps forward, bringing himself closer to where Jace stands frozen until he can clutch his arms, as if Alec can keep him planted there forever if he grips tight enough. “If you have to do this, let me come with you. We fight together.”
“No,” Jace murmurs.

Alec!
Alec shot up in bed. Jace was calling for him. He couldn’t really be sure if he had been awoken by the sound of his actual voice, or simply something inside him. Something uniquely parabatai. It didn’t really matter however — Jace was in pain.
Jace’s door was closed, but not locked. Entering, Alec was met by the sight of his parabatai thrashing on the bed, emitting painful and scared moans. He immediately rushed to the bedside, putting one hand on Jace’s shoulder to keep him still, and the other as a cooling balm on his forehead.
“Jace. Wake up,” he urged in a low voice, letting his hand slip from Jace’s forehead to gently cup his jaw.
To Alec’s relief Jace stilled and opened his eyes.
“Alec?”
“Mhm. You called for me. What’s wrong?”
Jace reached out a trembling hand towards Alec.
“Is this real? Are you…”
Alec caught the outstretch hand in his own, almost unwilling to let Jace’s face go.
“Yes. I am real. You are real. You’re home. You're safe.” Not fully realising he was doing it, he let the hand still resting on Jace’s shoulder caress the clammy skin with small delicate motions.
Jace let out a shaking breath. “Thank the angel.”
Alec shifted, sitting more fully on the bed as Jace relaxed a little against the mattress.
“Do you want to tell me what happened?”
Taking another, but thankfully less shaky breath, Jace nodded.
“I’ve been having nightmares. Bad ones. Ever since I… ever since Lake Lyn.”
Jace stopped. Seemingly getting lost in memories Alec couldn’t share. Jace still hadn’t shared what had really happened that night. But Alec knew it must have been bad. Really bad. Yet, he didn’t want to push, not when Jace was like this. Instead he urged him on with gentle eyes and a squeeze of his hand.
“You… I see you pulled though that wall in the crypt, screaming my name. And then I’m dragged away in chains. You never find me, and I feel you slip away. And I’m so ready to give up. Ready to let Jonathan just run me through with that blade. I just… I can’t live without you.”
A lump had formed in Alec’s throat. He knew that feeling all too well.
“It’s okay.” Not caring anymore what might be appropriate or not he let his hand rise to Jace’s hair, caressing it, pushing it out of Jace’s face, and letting his hand rest there, thumb grazing over his cheekbone. “I am here okay? I will always be here. For whither thou goest, I will go.”
To his surprise Jace leaned in to the touch. His breathing had slowed to normal, and he seemed to finally settle, closing his eyes.
Alec reluctantly let go of Jace, and moved to pull up the covers. A hand stopped him.
“Alec…”
“Yes?”
“Could you please…” Jace eyes were anxious but pleading. “… stay?”
Oh.
“I…” Alec didn’t know what to say.
“Please?” Jace moved the covers, indicating that he didn’t just mean he wanted Alec to stay in his room, but in his bed. “I don’t want to be alone.”
Alec’s heart broke at the sight of Jace like this. Vulnerable, scared, and so small.
“Of course.”
He crawled into the bed, and pulled the covers over them both. Jace turned his back, curled up, and fit himself snug against Alec’s chest. As if sensing Alec’s apprehension, he blindly grabbed on to Alec’s hand and guided it over his body, interlacing their fingers as he settled their hands against his own chest. Alec let out a sigh, and buried his face in Jace’s hair.
They fell asleep locked together, feeling more relaxed and secure than either of them had been for a long time.
I loved, and I loved and I lost you
And it hurts like hell
Something didn’t feel right. There was an unexplainable pull in the air. It reeked of anxiety, animosity and distress. And Alec knew it wasn’t coming from himself directly but from his parabatai, thousands of miles away. Which was all the more reason why Alec needed Magnus to hurry up and seal the rift between their realm and Edom, where the demons were coming from so that they could portal themselves to Idris and give Jace and Clary a hand.
Alec was slowly but surely, running himself ragged in the meantime. After nearly losing Jace to Jonathan’s madness not even 48 hours ago, he now hated being so far apart from his parabatai. No one could cover their backs quite like each other. And to be honest, Alec was terrified of losing the first person he ever soul-bearingly loved. It was like some extraterrestrial force was trying to tell him something before anything ever happened. He could feel fate’s grueling, unfortunate dusk nesting in his bones. Something dark was coming. That much Alec knew for certain and it rattled him to his core.
After arriving at Lake Lyn, Jace and Clary looked around the foggy edges of the water in search of Valentine or clues that the angel had risen. But, neither seemed to be the case yet as Clary asks “Are we too late?” and Jace responds, “No.” There’s a heavy pant that leaves his lips, as he’s knocked out of breath from rushing so fast to get there, “No, if he raised the Angel, we’d know it.” In that same moment of profound relief, Jace tells Clary, “We beat him here. We can stop him.” And for a second, they both believed that were true. Each looking at each other while allowing the faintest of smiles to grace their features.
However, just as Jace turned, Valentine appeared behind him like the grim reaper. The knife in his hand pierced through Jace’s chest, cutting through flesh and bone like lukewarm butter; easy, and effortless. Jace gasped and immediately looked down, shock evident on his visage. All he could think was that they were so close. So close to finally beating Valentine and saving the downworld from being unfairly eradicated. “I’m sorry, son,” Valentine apologizes. Meanwhile, Clary is frozen in place behind them. Jace stares into Valentine’s eyes, the same eyes of the man who broke him down and made him into the person he now was. Tears stained his vision but had yet to roll down his cheeks. If Jace didn’t know any better, he’d think that Valentine looked almost remorseful? Could it be? Or was it just another one of the devil’s many faces, and articulately planned deceptions? “I had to,” Valentine explains, answering the look in Jace’s eyes which pleaded the question; why? Granted, deep down he already knew. Valentine never loved him. No one did.
Well, maybe not no one. Alec ... his parabatai, loved him more than anyone and would have died for him no matter the cost. Oh god, Alec! Jace thought. He was leaving Alec! Alec who gasped as soon as he stepped foot in Idris with Magnus and Izzy, still a good ways apart from Jace and Clary. Isabelle’s eyes immediately followed the sound of the harsh, rabid gasping, noting that it was coming from her brother. “Alexander? You okay?” Magnus glanced at Alec who was stunned into painful silence and blood-curdling agony. It felt like someone had tased him and never let up on the trigger. Alec’s hand reached down to cover the spot along his body which ached, and burned and teared. And he knew, the moment his heart dropped and plummeted to the ground, shattering into a million little pieces that it was Jace. Something was really wrong with Jace. “Ahh, no!” Alec cried out, gasping and writhing violently above the dirty, uneven ground as he cupped his hip and raised his shirt to look for the only real tether he had left to Jace. It burned bright and awful and the ink was fading fast. “Jace!!” Alec screamed, while turning over onto his back as he choked on his parabatai’s name in between the endless cries of pain and ear splitting sobs. Both; Izzy and Magnus knelt down beside Alec while trying their best to calm him but nothing they did appeared to be working.
Meanwhile, Alec could see Jace’s face in his mind, focusing on his fondest memory of them together; which had been the day that they got their parabatai runes. Alec remembered it like it was yesterday. The nervous tick of Jace’s hand as he drew the rune on Alec’s hip and hooked a finger around his pant line, which Alec never believed was necessary because he had more than enough room to draw. Yet, he never complained because why would he? If Jace had kept going, Alec would have let him. Who cared if Izzy, or the silent brothers were there watching? Alec would have let Jace touch him in any which way he wanted. Over and over and over again.
“His parabatai rune,” Izzy pointed out to Magnus. It vanished. It was gone. And along with it was Alec’s nearly decade long physical, and emotional, and spiritual tether to Jace. He couldn’t feel him anymore. The pain of losing him lingered and yet at the same time, Alec couldn’t feel a single, fucking thing. He felt empty. Nothing but the bare shell of a man. For a few seconds, Alec thought that maybe he had actually died, too. He couldn’t even feel his own heart beating anymore, or see the clouds of his breath. Izzy and Magnus’s mouths were moving above him but he couldn’t make out the words that were being said. There was nothing but dead silence all around him, and dead air, and just death, death, death.
“Alec....”
“Alexander... Can you hear us?”
No... No, ... he still couldn’t hear them. But he was thinking..
Consciousness pulled him from the darkness of his slumber. The first thing that came to him was glimpse of light through closed lids, a subdued shade of color that told him his room had a light on. Weird… the first thing he’d done when he returned was shut off the light. Alec hadn’t even bothered changing into pajamas before collapsing into bed. He’d just pulled off his dirty jeans, shirt, and boots, content with falling asleep beneath his warm covers in just his boxer-briefs. It’s not like anyone bugged him in his room unless it was an emergency, and should one occur, he could simply put back on the clothes that lay on the floor beside his bed.
Alec rolled onto his back, a groan that came out more as a deep breath escaped his lips, definitely not ready to wake up. His room had no windows, so he wondered where the light source came from, while at the same time not wanting to open his eyes to determine the source. How many hours did he sleep? It really didn’t feel like enough, exhaustion still heavy in his bones and muscles. Certainly a few more hours of sleep wouldn’t be impossible, but first, that light needed to be dealt with.
Brown eyes cracked open, filtering out the bright light with his lashes. The light didn’t come from the ceiling. The source seemed to originate from the end of his bed, a bright glow that even in the haze of sleep he recognized as witchlight. Holding the light was a blurry dark figure, his vision not accustomed to the light yet, making it hard to make out any details. Alec blinked a few times and inclined himself onto his forearms to get a better look at the person in the room with him.
“Jace?” His voice came out garbled, rough from sleep. Alec coughed and cleared his throat, sitting up and letting his eyes lock with the golden orbs opposite him, taking in the image before him. The blond sat with his back against the bed post, witchlight in hard and book in lap. Exhaustion painted his young features in the heavenly light, giving him the appearance of being older and worn down.
Alec rubbed at blue eyes, inhaling deep and exhaling to replace the yawn that wanted to come out. “What are you doing here?”
“Reading.”
Alec huffed, grabbing a pillow and chucking it at the man’s face. “Thanks, Captain Obvious. Why are you doing it in here….?” His eyes glanced at the clock on the night stand, his brows shooting up. “At three in the morning?! Jace, you asshole.”
“What? I thought that if I read in here I could give you something nice to look at when you wake up. Maybe fix up some of your morning blues.”
Alec rolled his eyes and was tempted to throw another pillow at the man, but he only had one left. Jace had caught the first one and he knew that the second would be caught as well. Then he’d be pillow-less and his blood pressure would spike while he fought Jace for it. He’d never get back to sleep after that, and right now, he really wanted to go back to sleep. His eyes focused on the blonde’s features again, picking out once again the exhaustion. Dark circles painted beneath his eyes, a tenseness drawn in the lines of his shoulders.
“Man, you look like shit. Definitely not something I wanted to wake up to.”
Golden eyes narrowed at him and Alec knew that the man would fight him on that. He didn’t allow him to.
“When have you slept last?”
Alec didn’t think the man could become anymore tense. If he were a bow string, surely he would’ve snapped by now. “I’m fine,” was the curt response.
“I didn’t ask if you were okay. I asked if you had gotten any sleep.” With everything that was going on, Alec didn’t blame the other for not being able to sleep easy. If anyone were to have nightmares plague them, it would be Jace. On top of that, he was now rooming somewhere unfamiliar to him, and that could make sleep harder to come by. Alec had his own demons, he could understand maybe a little better than anyone else, but even so, there was a whole bunch of other things he couldn’t. Alec didn’t know what it felt like to have his world turned upside down several times over.
Alec pulled back the covers, eyes drifting from his parabatai to the empty spot behind him as if the mere gaze would cause the man to follow. It didn’t. Jace stared back at him, muscle in his jaw twitching. “I’m not even supposed to be here.”
“You’re right,” Alec said with a yawn. “So here’s your choice. You can give the middle finger to Aldertree by putting away that damn light and laying here with me. Or you can follow the rules and get the hell out of my room.” The brunette lay back down, covering himself with his portion of blankets and letting his head sink into the fluffy pillow. His eyes closed, but he remained awake, using his other senses to gauge what his parabatai would do.
The bed shifted and he felt the mattress dip and rise again when Jace removed himself from the bed. Alec bit his bottom lip and his brows furrowed. It frustrated him that the other didn’t take his bait, that he would rather torment his body. A soft thud overcame the room, the sound of someone putting something down. Not even a minute later, the mattress dipped again and a warm body slid beside his.
“You’re naked.” The voice held a hint of humor and surprise in the tone. “You hate sleeping naked. I always have to coerce you into it.”
A burn rose to Alec’s cheeks. He buried his face into the pillow to hide it, though Jace wouldn’t be be able to see in the dark. “I was tired. Hadn’t slept in more than twenty-four hours with all the crazy stuff popping up. Didn’t feel like bothering.
The bed moved again. Alec cracked open an eye to see Jace sit up and take off his t-shirt. Normally, the other slept shirtless anyway, but since Alec was what Jace called a prude, he wore more clothes than he liked to just to make Alec more comfortable. Truth was that while Alec didn’t care for sleeping without clothes, he did like the skin-to-skin contact. It soothed him, put him into a state of calm. Sometimes, Jace didn’t even have to do much coercing, but usually, he did.
Warm calloused fingers brushed over the rune above his hip, the rune he shared with Jace. A palm pressed against it, slide up his side and centered to his chest, pushing lightly, a silent request. With a deep exhale, Alec rolled onto his back. The hand stayed attached to that spot on his chest, the arm it was attached being pulled along so that it draped over his torso. A firm chest pressed against his side, a clothed legged tangling with his bare one. Jace’s cheek found its place against his shoulder, fresh scruff scratching against his flesh, a sensation that Alec actually enjoyed quite a lot. Alec’s arm was beneath Jace, and he curled it so he could place a hand on the others skin, absently tracing runes that he had mapped out on the other, completely memorized.
“They’ve been bad,” Jace said, breaking the comfortable silence.
Alec hummed. “I kind of guessed that. Should still try to get what sleep you can. You’ll kill yourself otherwise.”
“I know.” The smaller body relaxed against him. The warm breaths tickling his skin became more even, but he could tell that Jace hadn’t fallen asleep just yet. Alec could always tell, knew the exact rhythm of breaths and heartbeat that told him when sleep had taken over his partner. From the sound and feel of it, he was still a bit off. Alec would probably drift first, but hopefully that would pull Jace with him and the blond could finally get the sleep he needed.
“Hey, Jace?”
“Hmm?”
“You know I love you, right?”
A smile spread across his shoulder, a huff brushing against the bony part. “I know. I love you too.”
