When : February 14th James had spent Valentine's Day alone, just like any other years for the past seven years. You wouldn't say she was a romantic. In fact, she was quite the opposite. In all her past relationships, that was something people usually blamed her for. But tonight, at this bus stop, she wanted to be cute, lovely, all that she was usually not. However, the few drinks she just had didn't help. So, she turned towards you and asked.. "How would you tell someone you loved them very much, without sounding very cheesy, or very creepy ?"

If Keith expected anything other than a barrage of text messages from a confused, suspicious, and worried James then he was sure about to be surprised as James did not even wait A SINGLE SECOND before sending them off one by one as his thoughts were racing too fast to make one longer cohesive message.

Matt knew James missed him. You don’t really spend three months on an undercover and potentially deadly mission without missing your significant other. But this reaction - it’s unexpected. And lacks James’s usually restraint and subtlety.

“I hate to break it to you, Jamie,” Matt whispers, “but the probability of everyone blinking at the same time is extremely low. But the probability of this meeting ending early because of someone,” Matt winks at him, “pulling the fire alarm? Now that’s high.”

❝ Are you suggesting we FAKE AN EMERGENCY and waste everyone’s time just for a little welcome back kiss? ❞ James questioned, narrowing his eyes as he gave a cursory glance around the meeting room before his gaze finally landed on Matt.

It was an objectively horrible idea.

❝ We are NOT starting a ship-wide panic even if I would like this meeting to end early. Just... do a NERD THING and hack a mild inconvenience like the screen not working or something. ❞

EVERYONE LOVES PIZZA… unless they have some kind of allergy that keeps them from eating it in which case that’s completely fine but otherwise? Everyone loves pizza. ❞ James agreed with a smile before rather inelegantly taking a giant bite right out of a slice, his cheeks puffing out in their fullness and making him look like a chipmunk.

It was clear a question was on his mind, a glimmer in his eyes saying he wanted to talk but he couldn’t until he properly chewed and swallowed because HE’S NOT AN ANIMAL and would never talk with his mouth full.

His eyes had to have been deceiving him because James was sure that who he thought he saw couldn’t have possibly been who he thought it was. It’d been so quick- A MERE GLANCE- but he’d recognize that unruly mop of black hair anywhere.

Driven by his curiosity James picked up the pace of his run to catch up, sure enough finding the mysterious and yet WAY TOO FAMILIAR form ahead of him running next to-

Was that a dog? That was way too big to be a normal dog but that was off topic and irrelevant because KEITH WAS HERE.

That was Keith! Keith, who had moved out of their home town years ago and James thought he might never see the guy again. Keith, who James had a MASSIVE crush on in high school because he was all fiery passion and intense gaze before they’d parted ways and who still looked- well... really in shape from the back BUT AGAIN THAT WASN’T THE POINT.

God, James, get it together.

He just had to go for it right? The worst that could happen is that attractive back DIDN’T belong to Keith and he’d look like an idiot and that was pretty awful but it was probably still worth a shot anyway as he ran just a little faster and cupped his hands around his mouth as he called out his name.
