just thinking about james pre-believe me-post watch me…
since it seems to be basically revealed (to an extent i suppose) that paris anderson has three children worldwide, and james and warner being relevant present in the public eye to have people being pretty fond of them, i cant help but wonder.
i wonder if a younger james ever came back to the RE orphanage/the street with the other orphans' children after everything had settled in and everyone was pitching to build the New Republic. I mean, he had to right? i feel like james still has friends living there and since he had to leave in a rush in Shatter Me, he must've wanted to come back and make sure they were okay?? right??
but i guess my question and where my thoughts are kind of up is somewhere near the end of Release Me, warner revealed that james' childhood was kind of uncomfortable for the fact that there was worldwide gossip about him and how people wanted to investigate his life bc i mean?? he (and adam) are children of the supreme at the end of the day but there HAD to be a lot of hate and resentment as a result bc it was *their father* that contributed to the reason why everything was so horrible.
people do tend to blame the children of horrible oppressors bc it's hard to differentiate the two, or see those children as individuals separate from their parentage (like just seeing the whole family as a bad apple). regardless of the good they do, i wonder if the other children had heard about james. AND ALTHOUGH warner also revealed that a lot of the younger generation (with some of the people even james would have grown up with) connect and cherish him a lot more than the others, that can't be 100% true… like i wonder if some of the other children were frightened by him, after hearing who his father is, and hearing whatever gossip or untrue rumour about him (or his brothers) despite the fact that, james at least, is innocent in all this. that he hadn’t even known who is father is, until imagine me and didn’t even benefit from father being in power anyway. but still, i wonder if some of those children rejected him if or when he ever came back to check up. like there had to be a % of some of those seeing him as the extension of his big scary dad… YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
i could see this being one of many realizations for little james that his life will definitely never be the same. it could be him seeing that his father, even in death, would still be tied to him and his brothers, and that's all SOME people are going to see, no matter what they heard, know, or seen about you.
like james was a clever kid, but i obviously don't think he took in the full extent of what it meant to be revealed to be related to anderson… like he knew it was bad, that he was awful, but he didn't account for the fact that some people would see him that way as well.
NOW THIS IS ME JUST THINKING AND CONNECTING DOTS. i just think this would definitely be a pretty interesting aspect to explore with james' character and his growing up, with the few little clues we're given. like… the rejection of some of those children (potentially) had to be one of many hurtful realizations for him, right?

❤︎ Rosabelle definitely watches James when he sleeps…. for a little bit before she falls asleep (my little creep i love her). Also, James is genuinely clingy when he’s sleeping.
❤︎ James is the passenger princess in this relationship. Rosabelle tends to do most of the driving between the two of them.
❤︎ Rosabelle and James would try to learn new things together. One of the most notable things they attempted was learning a new language! This becomes increasingly relevant since they’re also big on traveling—wherever they go, they try to learn at least some basic phrases. Rosabelle picks up on it far faster than James does; grammar honestly isn’t his strongest skill.
❤︎ Rosabelle would surprisingly be into photography, constantly taking pictures of James (alongside Clara and whatever nice moments they all share together).
❤︎ They both have a major sweet tooth.
❤︎ Once James finally learns how to cook, he does all of their meal preparation. He literally cooks based entirely on whatever Rosabelle likes.
❤︎ They adopt a cat, and aside from Clara, that cat is their child, no question.
❤︎ James loves doing Rosabelle’s hair—putting it in braids or even just playing with it. Sometimes he does it subconsciously because he genuinely can’t help it; it’s simply fun for him.
❤︎ Rosabelle’s favorite pastime is listening in on Adam, Juliette, and Kenji sharing embarrassing childhood stories about James growing up.
❤︎ One time when they were heading to a meeting and it was snowing, James had upset Rosabelle enough that she retaliated by throwing a snowball at the back of his head. James threw one back, and before long, they were in a full snowball fight. One of the soldiers sent out to retrieve them when they both weren’t answering their pages got caught in the crossfire. It made for a very awkward explanation when Warner asked why they were late.

❤︎ Rosabelle is actually the certified freak in the relationship. Her other favorite pastime is teasing James a little because he’s quite easy to rile up.
❤︎ James is always the first to apologize after an argument because he’s weak for her and literally cannot stand it if Rosabelle is mad at him for more than a minute.
❤︎ If they ever got married and wanted to take each other’s last name, it would be James who would take Rosabelle’s last name.
❤︎ James and Rosabelle are often the targets for babysitting everyone’s kids.
❤︎ They go on morning runs together (they’re also that really annoying athletic couple, honestly).
❤︎ Rosbelle and James have a terrible habit of finishing each other’s sentences when they’re brainstorming, and it annoys literally everyone.
❤︎ Rosabelle is weirdly competitive when they play games together, and James finds it hilarious.
❤︎ Rosabelle loves planning a little too much that her and James have a Sunday night routine where they plan the week together and it’s weirdly intimate.
❤︎ Back to the cat, they have a cat that obviously loves Rosabelle more and James is playfully jealous.
❤︎ James gets goosebumps when Rosabelle touches the back of his neck… again not that hard to tease a little 🚶
❤︎ James runs warm, Rosabelle runs cold, so they’re constantly using each other for temperature regulation.

ANDERSON BROTHERS HEADCANONS
-Adam HATES wearing suits or any formal attire in general. He’s just not a fan of how restrictive and uncomfortable they can be — he literally can’t breathe in them, tailored to his size or not. It’s just not his thing since he grew up wearing clothes that were practical AND comfortable, and that notion kind of stuck. thus, this why he has no fashion sense at all. and why his shoes at too big (according to Aaron).
- (Canon?) Aaron hates spiders — he’s more than a little uncomfortable around them, but he’ll never outwardly show it. He keeps up that nonchalant charm while dying inside. James, on the other hand, completely different. he’s more then outward about his hatred for them. he hates spiders so much and they give him the chills. he’s screamed bloody murder around them more than once. Even Anderson, their father, hated spiders a little too much. It’s a weird family trait… HOWEVER! Adam, on the other hand, doesn’t mind them at all — he actually finds them kind of cool, and whenever he finds one circling around, he catches it in a little cup and sets it free.
- Back at Omega Point, when James was little, the other kids dreaded playing games with him. Not because they didn’t like him — they LOVED him, he was pretty popular — but because in any game or sport he played with them , even if he’d never played it before, he’d immediately pick it up and always win, lol. Without mercy too.
- While trying to salvage what the Reestablishment had taken away, Aaron managed to save some record players and keeps one in the house, along with the records that survived the purge. He genuinely grew to like the art of music, having a very particular taste with the songs he listens too. More to that though, he prefers playing on record, and just the general style of record players in general. There’s a strange, sleek comfort in them.
- Back in school, Adam’s favorite subject was geography, and he was weirdly good at it. He didn’t mind spending entire units on landscapes, environments, peoples, and places. It was fun to “visit” so many places from the comfort of the classroom. That’s probably why he’s so into road trips now: he likes the destination just as much as the getting-there part, since it’s a good way to learn about the land and its people, fr.
- Because of James’s healing ability, he never gets sick. Like, ever. He’s come close to the edge of feeling nauseous or dizziness, but he’s never actually gotten sick, feverish sick, all because his ability keeps him from it. If he ever were to get sick, he’d be really cranky and annoying.
- Adam and James tan really easily… Warner, not so much. He’s very cautious about staying out in the sun too long, since he’ll get a little sunburned from it.
- Warner eventually acquires reading glasses at some point in his life. Juliette likes them a little too much.
- James tried to get a tattoo when he turned 18, but again, because of his healing ability, within the hour the tattoo had healed itself away 😭 Even when he tried turning his power off, the moment he turned it back on, his skin would heal right over it again. It’s a sensitive topic for him.
- James doesn’t have a traumatic relationship with alcohol like poor Adam and Warner do — neither of them drinks, because of Anderson’s alcoholism — but James avoids it for a different reason entirely: he’s kind of a lightweight. Also he’s like a truth descriptor, he’ll spill whatever crosses his mind without a second thought.
- Adam, Gigi, and Roman built little birdhouses for their front and back yards, so they could house and feed the local birds in the neighborhood.
- Adam hates horror movies… like, a lot. They stress him out, and when there are kids in horror movies? He’s extra freaked out, because damn, those kids are scary.
- James really enjoys romcoms.
-Aaron is like the worse person to watch movies with because he will always predict the plot/plot twists to EVERYTHING. Literally within ten minutes of the movies, he’s already solved with the big plot points are and it always ticks Kenji off.
-Adam has a minor pollen allergy, and he finds it a little embarrassing.
-James loves amusement parks, and he loves going on the most horrifying rides ever. When the New Republic brought back amusement parks and James went for the first time, instead of going on the kiddy or tamer rides first, he grabbed Kenji and forced him onto the scariest roller coaster known to man. Kenji swears he saw his life flash before his eyes as James begged him to go one more time.
-Adam and James’ favourite season is summer. Warner’s favourite season is fall.
-Warner regrets that one time in Restore Me when he told James that he’d grow taller one day, because James never lets him live it down.
-Moreover, James is also slightly taller than Adam. James is the tallest Anderson brother… but he is also the exact same height as Anderson.
-James didn’t like his freckles growing up.
Warner literally keeps that damn tablet on him at all times. He’s basically an iPad kid at this point.
-Speaking of which, while Warner is really good with technology, Adam isn’t. He knows what he knows, and he’s good with that. But any newer tech kind of confuses him. He’s like an old man in a young person’s body when it comes to technical stuff.
-James kind of has permanent case of “bedhead.” No matter how much he combs or brushes his hair, there are always little pieces sticking out. It’s kind of cute, though.
-Warner had to teach both James and Adam how to tie a tie.
-Adam gets easily sea sick.
-James’ favourite song would be “It’s Gonna Be Me” by *NSYNC… like, deadass. Whenever he’s left to his own devices, this is the song he’d end up humming to himself.
-Adam was a pretty sensitive child growing up, especially before Mama Kent’s death and whenever Anderson wasn’t around. James, on the other hand, barely cried when he was a baby. He was always smiling and giggling.
-Warner hates Velcro shoes. Like, a lot. If he could ban them and erase them from existence, he would because they’re so ugly to him.
-Warner and Adam’s least favourite song is “It’s Gonna Be Me” by *NSYNC.
-Adam and James’ favourite pastime growing up was playing I Spy. The darker reason behind this was that Adam wanted to keep James aware of and vigilant about their surroundings. It taught him to pay attention.
-A game Warner and James would play after the fall of the Reestablishment is chess. This is the only game James is really bad at.
Surprisingly, despite Adam’s initial thoughts, he quite enjoys playing chess. He’s actually pretty good at it, but unfortunately, whenever he’s playing against Warner… Warner always wins.
-James doodles whenever he’s really bored.
When the baby is born, Warner is the one who picks out a lot of the baby’s clothes. He’s a fashionista, so of course that’s going to reflect on his and Juliette’s kid.
-If Candy Crush existed in the Shatter Me universe, it would be Adam’s favourite game.
-James and Warner would despise Candy Crush.
Adam only makes so many typos in his messages because he texts really fast.
-James would be the type of texter who mostly responds with stupid emojis.
-Juliette would buy Warner those stupid stress balls to fidget with whenever Kenji or James pisses him off a little too much. It keeps him from wanting to take out his gun.
-James cheated on a math test once.
-Whenever the Anderson brothers get into a car together, James always try’s to propose the idea of him driving, but Warner shuts him down. James would try to sit in the front seat, but the moment he’d open the passenger seat door, Adam slides in line “ha, you thought. very funny.” So James is left grumbling in the backseat. This is their unofficial-official seating arrangement when driving.
