Create delicious homemade jam using fresh berries. This easy recipe allows you to enjoy the natural flavors of the fruit with just the right amount of sweetness.
Ingredients: 2 cups fresh berries strawberries, raspberries, or your choice. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 tablespoon lemon juice. 1 teaspoon pectin optional, for thickening.
Instructions: Wash and hull the berries. In a medium saucepan, combine the berries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the jam thickens. You can use a spoon test to check the consistency. Dip a spoon into the jam; it should coat the back of the spoon and not run off easily. If desired, add pectin and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove the jam from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Pour the jam into sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top. Seal the jars with lids. Allow the jam to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Enjoy your homemade jam on toast, biscuits, or in various recipes!
