........................ tell me more about the ares/hypnos ship
hhhhh okay! let’s see if I can break it down into something coherent!
so I’m an ares/mars sympathizer. love that guy a lot. I tend to tackle greek/roman aspects of these gods a little sideways, so instead of ares being war/violence/agriculture, in my mind it’s more like: the cyclical nature of violence and change/catharsis/eventual healing, and so, for me, is equally tied to the act of living and to the acts that bring death.
(as a side note, imo ares is a more interesting embodiment of love/loving/a lover to me than aphrodite, and likewise aphrodite is a more interesting embodiment of absolutely fucking unhinged violence and revenge.)
hypnos gets even more abstract to me because he’s the personification of sleep. his closeness to humans in life (bc of the amount of time people spend sleeping) is endlessly fascinating to me. to know and be close for so much of their lives, and then for your siblings to be different aspects of death?? LOVE THAT. there’s some kind of thought here about sleep as a temporary death, too. anyway! love thinking about it.
and there’s a line between war and death/thanatos, but I think the more interesting one is between ares and hypnos because of the cyclical nature of ares (violence/war/agriculture) and then the cyclical nature of hypnos (sleep cycles! life and temporary death! to sleep perchance to dream etc! hell yeah!)
in conclusion to this chaotic string of thoughts, I think it’d be neat if ares and hypnos got to hang out and talk about stuff.
