At last dredged up to consciousness by the angle of the light, Erlich pawed bewilderedly at the soft cashmere throw he seemed to be entangled in – what the heck was this? The last thing he remembered was that opium den in China Gavin had so rudely forgotten him in…

“Oh,” a soft voice said beside him. “You’re awake, good, I was getting worried. Do you need anything? Water? Herbal tea?”

Erlich furrowed his brow, trying to remember where he recognized that voice from. “Jared? What the fuck are you doing here?”

“Erlich, don’t you remember what happened? I finally tracked you down and brought you back to Palo Alto, you’re in my condo right now. I apologize if the bed isn’t quite to your liking, I prefer a firm mattress but I know that’s not a popular preference…” Erlich blinked a few times and Jared’s gangly frame swam into focus in the doorway, wringing his hands apologetically.

“What happened? What am I…why am I here?” Erlich asked, trying to get out of bed. Jared rushed to his side.

“Don’t get up too fast, you’ve been detoxing for the last week or so, you’re dehydrated. Stay in bed, I’ll bring you some broth.” Jared paused in the doorway and smiled at Erlich. “I’m…glad to have you back.”

I got a request to draw Jared tracking down Erlich in tibet!! and like obviously I know erlich won’t come back next season but if jared doesn’t at least mention something about trying to find him I’m gonna be mad because that would be so out of character for jared to just roll over and accept that erlich is gone forever

1. Leaves and pumpkins

Palo Alto doesn’t get a proper autumn, and that’s one of the few things that makes Jared long for the East Coast. He shows Erlich some old college photos one night in October, from his time as an RA, when he organized a pumpkin picking and carving outing for his dorm. 

Erlich spends a long time looking at one picture of a much younger Jared - or Donald, he supposes - in his cozy black peacoat and scarf, holding a vivid orange pumpkin and surrounded by red and yellow maple leaves.

“You look like a poster boy for the Northeast,” he says, kissing Jared’s cheek. Jared frowns at the photo.

“God, am I really that pale?” he whispers. Erlich kisses him again.

“Shh, you’re beautiful,” he whispers. “And...I happen to know there’s a farm about an hour away that does pumpkin picking in the fall, if you want to go out there tomorrow...we could make jack-o-lanterns together.” 

Jared kisses Erlich. “That would be lovely,” he says.
