Ah it’s nothing, you know, just the fact that My Moon My Man is about being in a relationship with someone that is inconsistent and flighty yet loving them anyways. All I can think about is Starstruck meeting in college (probs at a party, love me a party animal Ryland Grace) and being on and off together yet separating afterwards, both young and full of life but having different life paths, accepting that they were just a phase in each others life. (Tim prob feeling like Grace was the one that got away but too deep in hook up culture and his fame to dwell) 😔

Then them meeting back up later on set because of Colt, Tom excited at the prospect of seeing Grace again, jumping the gun and being all touchy with him while Grace is lowkey not the same person he used to be and not as interested… Cue some reconnection and maybe they come back together, becoming exclusive for once yet probably remaining secretive due to Tom being in the spotlight. They are grown but their love is as strong as ever! 🥹

Things are going good for them as Tom fixes his act and they see each other when they can. Their schedules are hectic between filming in different areas and Grace teaching full time. Everything is so perfect until Grace stops responding to Tom. He thinks he’s probably just busy, so he lets it go for a bit, until it’s been a whole week of radio silence… turns out Colt doesn’t know where Grace is either and they are all sick with worry for months. All their efforts are dead ends until Project Hail Mary comes out on the news and the rocket launches into space on its one way trip. Grace is the scientist on board and Tom (and Colt ofc) can’t believe he left them without even a goodbye. Maybe Grace wasn’t as happy with Tom as he thought? It’s conflicting because he’s scared/proud of Grace, yet selfish in wishing he didn’t leave. They obviously don’t know he was plucked right from school and didn’t have much contact with the outside world on Stratts Vat, plus Grace didn’t even sign up or agree to being shot off into space… but it causes Tom to doubt himself and his quality as a partner. They are apart once again. 💔

Tom probably stays single after Grace leaves him, maybe trying to fall back to his old ways once before ripping himself away in regret and guilt. He continues to act and perform in movies, but it never ends up being the same. Tom gets to see the beetles return to Earth years later, Grace sending him a message of love and regret. He knows the truth now, and even though Grace will never come home, he feels all the love in the world for his wayward astronaut. Seeing his face on the screen makes Tom feel like Grace is beside him again, even if he knows that this is it for them. I like to imagine at this point Tom has admitted publicly to his relationship with Grace, so the media has probably had a field day this entire time, multiplied tenfold by the beetles and their contents. Colt and Tom attributed much of their careers to Grace after he left. They meant the world to each other in the end, but love couldn’t keep them together no matter how hard they tried. 🥲
