He imagines his father, his sweat. The smell of something arid and brittle; the yellowed pages of a children’s book he’d once been read.

The answer is that Aaron thinks of it all the time. He thinks of it all the time. All the time. Robert never relaxes anymore and Aaron thinks of it, sees it, smells it on him. The smell and behavior of someone having trespassed.
