Devil in my blood, living on the edge
Split myself in two, death is all around
Summoning the power, drag myself through pain
Blood spills, off of me and onto you
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
If you have to ask, it's too late
Somewhere in between, your character grace
An eye on fantasy, touching nails
Sparks fly, off of me and onto you
Brothers in the dark, fight for your life!
Devils in the dark, fight for your life!
Fight for your life! Fight for your life!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
Devil in my blood, living on the edge
Split myself in two, death is all around
Summoning the power, drag myself through pain
Blood spills, off of me and onto you
Brothers in the dark, fight for your life!
Devils in the dark, fight for your life!
Fight for your life! Fight for your life!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
Savior! Bloodstain! Hellfire! Shadow!
Heaven on a landslide!
If you’re wondering why I hate Subhuman so much, the answer is simple.
This person is the composer of the song, Cody Matthew Johnson. Subhuman is his second music piece for a video game and his second attempt at a devil may cry theme. The first one was garbage, and he clearly lacked the experience to compose the theme of the main character of a beloved series. If not for the response you see above you, then maybe, just maybe, I would have been able to give subhuman another chance. But the arrogance and unprofessionalism that these tweets show make it impossible for me to consider that.
Listen, I want to like Dante’s theme. I want to enjoy it as much as I do Devil Trigger, or Crimson Cloud, or Devils Never Cry. In spite of the shitty lyrics, the squealing sexual predator singing it, the garbage advertising, and the misinterpretation of Dante’s character, I was fully willing to give it a second chance. LittleVMills’ version of the song is one that I begrudgingly enjoy, though I’ll still avoid listening to it.
But Cody couldn’t accept his mistake. He tainted the game for me. In my eyes, Devil May Cry 5 in a near perfect game, with all flaws I can overlook because of how great the rest of the game is. Except for Subhuman. There is nothing that can distract me from the putrid mess that is the song.
All I want is for the song to be forgotten by the series. I don’t want it to be a legacy song that you can pay for like you could for Lock and Load and Devils Never Cry in DMC5. I don’t want this man near the series, and I don’t want the song to replace Devils Never Cry if Dante appears in another MvC game or the likes of Smash.
