Say what you need to say but I lowkey love the dramatic irony if Jet was a fire bender. Just imagine. He’s half fire nation alright and he kind of knows he’s a bender (rises with the sun, can sense fire and stuff) but he’s he’s in denial. He refuses to accept his bending.

Basically Jet would be a more extreme version of Jeong Jeong. He sees fire as complete destruction refuses to use it. And we all know bad things happens to benders who can’t bend (see Hama) so that’s part of the reason why Jet is so obsessive and off.

And here’s the thing. Zuko can’t exactly tell that this creepy guy is a fire bender but he knows there’s something different about him and he wants to find out. So basically Zuko ends up stalking Jet in return and I dunno maybe he noticed the lanterns flickering in sync with Jet or something but he finds out.

And loses his shit and now Zuko is the one all on Jet’s ass and he basically forces Jet to learn control and stuff and Jet can’t exactly turn them in now so cue Reluctant Firebender Jet and his angry teacher Lee
