The widespread celebration is over now. And some of the U.S. men's Olympic hockey team's goodwill has diminished.
Black people - in this case, NBA players - have tried restraint. They have pleaded for justice. They have made appeals to the logic, morality and decency of others. Following the example of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, they have gotten on one knee, as prayerful as they are defiant, and made themselves vulnerable before a scrutinising nation and its flag. They do it not for trouble but for the attention of an otherwise unresponsive cluster of White America. Still, they wake up and see video of police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shooting Jacob Blake seven times in the back while his children were present. Blake is paralysed and still fighting for his life. In some twisted way, that makes him luckier than George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and every other Black person that police across the country have killed so coldly.

Your confidence in the front office's ability to build a quality roster wouldn't be as high as it is now. Instead of seeing the Seahawks' potential, you'd be worried about a losing culture. This final month of the NFL season would be miserable.

He needed to go and start over with a new team. Curry was polarizing almost from the start, and he was maddening near the end, but in his final three weeks, he was just lost. He couldn't do anything right. He couldn't satisfy anyone, not even himself. He couldn't even tweet without incident. His legacy is as unbelievable as his pre-draft hype now. On his Seahawks headstone, five words must be inscribed. A most hazardous safe pick.
