We said goodbye to Jesse on Tuesday. She stated having a lot more trouble eating over the weekend, and started throwing up bile too. That's the first major trouble she'd had, and we knew that was our sign.
It ended up going as well as it could've. Jack was able to find a mobile vet who came to the house, which meant Jesse was more comfortable before, and we could all be there. We're really grateful for that, and it made the whole process much more peaceful.
We're going to miss our beauty queen kitty, Jack most of all, but we're sure she's back with her girlfriend Moocher, getting lots of snuggles and grooming. 💙
I broke the Jesse
Today's cancelled. Animals are cancelled.
Jesse's mass is an inch long. We'll have more results in 48 hours, but between that and some various other things, I don't think we're doing surgery.
On top of that. I woke up from a sudden nap and don't see Phoebe anywhere on main floor. Ask Jack & Joel, neither have seen her. Go to the basement to look and check on the crabs while down there.
The salt water pool cracked. Completely drained. The sand is flooded at the bottom of that side, an inch or two. It's been 48 hours already, so guessing anyone who couldn't get away is already dead. I can't deal with digging through half the tank (especially with it up higher now) during the work week, I just can't. So I dig through half the substrate on Friday, look for dead crabs, and replace substrate. And have to buy a new pool.
Go back to Phoebe search. Yes, she was outside, for at least over an hour. Maybe 2? No clue, bc she went out with Addy, without any humans around. She was close enough to hear Jack out looking for her, so when I went out a few minutes later, she was by the door and came in.
I went in and had a panic attack on the couch. Addy tried to get to me 3 times, Jack let her up the 4th after I calmed down some and she sniffed me all over and laid in my lap. Good dog. You can be uncancelled.
Joel told me after that, Phoebe had also gone out with dogs around lunchtime, roommate saw her out under the pine trees. She let them catch her immediately, but fucking REALLY.
SO. Now we don't spend $5000 for Jesse surgery, but we're spending $1000 to set up an extended roofed dog run outside the back door. It'll be 5ft x 30ft, directly next to the house, and with another door on the side, to the porch. This solves multiple problems at once, at least. Phoebe stays safe. Prissy Prince Spring gets his covered potty area. And the poop all stays in one area, leaving the rest of the yard clean for gardening and dog romp time.
Who wants animals, we're giving them all away and collecting rocks instead.
It's ridiculous how good at communication our big animals are. Phoebe, Spring, and Addy are all amazingly good at reading each other's body language and responding correctly. We rarely have to intervene in animal interactions, and even when we do, it's usually a small reminder or redirection.
Spring is full of himself tonight and wants to play with Everyone! So far he's tried with the kitten a couple times, where we had to remind him a couple times that kitten is Not Sure about playing with dogs yet. Tried with Phoebe, who wasn't much interested. He saw she wasn't really interested and wandered off for someone more fun.
He ended up convincing Addy into a full on bitey face & wrestling match on the couch. They really have playtime figured out now - he goes full tilt and she alternates between bitey face and swatting him with her front paws. 😂 But they both listen really well when either says "ouch too much" & back off for a second before re-engaging. They're hilarious to watch! We only redirected Spring when he tried to go back for another round later and Addy clearly wasn't really wanting to. Jack called him and Spring immediately bounced over to him.
Added to that, he saw Jesse on the floor at one point and bounced down right in front of her. She crouched back and hissed bc Jesse does NOT do chihuahua playtime. He paused and turned his head away and scratched his neck, then jumped back to the couch without a word from us.
We're just consistently impressed with how well all of these guys do together, especially with the cross-species communication. It's fascinating to watch, and I'm so glad they all get along so well.
Wish us luck. Jesse goes in for her CT scan today to see how extensive her cancer is, and if they think they can get it all with surgery or not.
Jesse's home! 💙 She had to stay at the vet overnight bc they got a bunch of emergencies yesterday and didn't have time. They got her CT scan done today. Now we have to wait up to 48 hours for the results, which sucks. Hopefully they get back to us soon.
Friends, please send good luck and hopeful thoughts if you have any to spare.
Jesse has had raspy, congested breathing for the past few weeks, since she got a dental done. Antibiotics didn't help, steroids seemed to help a little, but didn't make it go away. Now we found a lump on the side of her throat on Saturday night. The vet confirmed they saw it on her xrays from the previous visit (checking her lungs for infection).
Jack's waiting at the vet now for news. We're terrified we're going to lose her just like Ebony to breathing issues and cancer, and in the same month. Please, please let it be easily fixable. Pretty please.
