I’ve been trying to make my house more spooky with decorations, and I figured some Victorian-style portrait photos would do the trick. But why buy photos when you can just make pictures of your own character?
So, first set, Pathfinder characters! My Jessen and my husband’s Wynne. <3
Meet my D&D party! They met doing court-mandated community service after someone’s animal companion tore up a hostel.
Welcome to the Jungle
Jessen blinked, feeling as if he were awaking from a deep slumber. The surroundings were almost alien compared to those he had left behind, the dense foliage of the jungle barely obscured by the ancient temple he now stood upon. Whether it was something that came with him from Light’s Cradle, the clone was uncertain, but the gateway at his back was definitely created by the Forge of Whispers. Had Pandora’s Box been linked to that relic of a fountain all this time? Or were there more pieces to this puzzle to be sorted through? He couldn’t be sure. What he was sure of, however, was the hissing coming from the trees that shadowed him now. His skin tingled, the hair on his bare arms standing on end as he realized just what sort of situation he’d been transported into. He cursed. But he wasn’t quite sure who to curse it upon.
Perhaps all of this damned reality.
As he called upon his weapon, pulling a mighty scythe from the shadows themselves, a colossal creature fell through the branches. It had aimed to crush the man, but the white-haired warrior was far too quick for that. Three snake-like necks whipped to their prey’s newfound positioning and the hydra shrieked an ear-piercing scream. Each of its mouths jaws unhinged, baring fangs wildly.
“Well aren’t you a lively one?” Jessen smirked as the reptilian behemoth spun nearly 180 degrees and attempted to smack him with its tail. He didn’t even try to dodge the strike. It was a futile one.
The slanted eyes of the monstrosity widened as it finally realized what had happened. The scythe had been used to cleave nearly half of its tail from its body, dark red blood spilling from the amputation in waves. It tried to shriek once more but instantly found itself enveloped in a sea of darkest night.
The shadows whipped about ferociously as their master finally fed them once more, tearing and biting at the creature within them. What was being done to the hydra now was something that the Heilifolge forbid to be done to any living man. This fate was indeed worse than death; to be assimilated into the void which lay at Jessen’s beck and call.
Only two men had ever survived their assault. Though now the man felt only remorse for the souls which he had stripped of their flesh in the past. Creatures that attacked all they came across, however? He felt nothing for. Rotten and filthy things in his eyes.
He closed his eyes, a look of finality passing over him as he snapped and the fiendish mass of shadows seemed to disappear into the scythe he held in his hands. Not even a skeleton remained of the apex predator turned prey. It was a part of Hades now. Bound to the cursed blade forevermore.
“Then let’s be on our way. We wouldn’t want to keep our companions waiting.” His eyes remained closed as he sank into the shadows themselves, though his thin, firm expression expanded into a smirk just before he completely disappeared into this world’s inner darkness.
He had grown very used to the feeling over the years. The feeling of tendrils encircling his entire form. The shadows caressing his flesh with their cold touch. He couldn’t lie, there was a time when it once excited him. It had led him into a state of bloodlust not long after his ‘birth’.
It was a feeling long reserved for the primordial Oblivion to experience. Jessen and Everett, whether blessed or cursed to know the embrace of darkness for what it was, none could be certain. But to those two, it was something a part of their very being now. Nothing could change that.
“...mean the gate is missing?” Jessen found himself entering the middle of a conversation as he rose to the surface. His aim while traveling the dark passageways had improved by quite a margin it seemed. Cori Achliss and Alex Grant were noticeably dumbfounded by their friend’s sudden appearance.
“Jessen?!” They both spat, the black and blonde-haired apparent teenagers scrambling over one another to welcome their friend home. The last they had seen of him, the stone archway had sucked him within it causing the disappearing act of the century from their perspective.
“There is much to discuss, believe me. Just,” Jessen stumbled before easing his way into a crouched sitting position atop the crate behind him. He inhaled slowly, “leave me a moment of calm. Just a moment.”
“O-of course.” Alex stammered out, Cori following with, “Our apologies, take your time.”
Jessen gave a sincere smile beneath the hair which had now fallen into his face. To hear their voices again was a relief. He had truly developed quite a bond with the Heilifolge. To imagine someone like him would be missing people just for their company? Everett would be in shock.
“Where to begin?” He mused quietly. The words were more meant for himself than them, though he had to start somewhere. “Have either of you ever had it brought to your attention that there is an entirely separate world to our own beyond that gate?”
Cori shook his head, “No, Marco only ever told us we’d find nothing but torment there.”
Alex nodded, “Yeah, that’s why when it took you we were pretty sure you were just,” he stammered excitedly, “gone!”
Jessen laughed, “Perhaps for him. No, there is a land once torn asunder by Oblivion through that doorway.”
“Like it matters much,” Cori huffed, “it suddenly disappeared from containment within the past few hours.”
“No, I’d wager it simply changed locations. It brought me back here after all. I wouldn’t think it a coincidence that one just like it was in the jungles where I awoke.” The most slender of the three postulated all of this once more silently to himself, raising his left knee up to his chest in a stretch before continuing, “Yes, but no matter. Despite all efforts to keep Oblivion bound there, the three overpowered Joshua and are on the loose once more.”
“Joshua is alive?!”
GALTx eNews: Two Top Dogs, Jessenia and Troy!
Our featured top dogs come from different generations and different hemispheres but they are looking for the same thing - a forever home of their own! Read more:
Jessenia, aka Jessenia Bale, is a happy dog from Down Under who just celebrated her 10th birthday on July 12th! Born and bred in Australia, Jessenia raced five times and then moved to America about five years ago to become mommy to nine puppies, including GALT's Buddy. Jess squeezes the most out of each and every day and is toy crazy! She will even fetch toys and fill her bed with them! Jess also jumps into every puddle she comes by like it's the last puddle she will ever see. She is equally enthusiastic about treats; they please her immensely but she will politely wait her turn. Jess loves affection and will stand near you so that you can scratch and pet her for days. Like most mommy dogs, she can be a bit pushy sometimes.
Jessenia is no fan of storms. She hides in the closet when they come near. Meet and greets can overstimulate her and she does not show her true personality in that setting. Meet her in person to see her fun side. She travels well in a car and settles quickly. Motorcycles are a favorite - she will run along side them when they pass by her yard. She is a bit too vocal for apartment life and already knows how to use a dog door! We don't yet know whether she can live with cats but she does well with small dogs.
Troy came to us as a stray in Fort Worth and we estimate that he is now about two years old. His DNA test results reveal that he is about half Saluki and half Greyhound, coming from a long line of Saluki and Greyhound mixes. He needs a home that is free of cats and small dogs.
Troy is the happiest dog and has so much love to give. He prances about and bounds through the air! Troy loves his walks and has never met a stranger, greeting everyone with an endlessly wagging tail. He has a soft spot for kids and is patient with them, waiting calmly in sphinx position when they dally. Troy doesn't have space issues and is a natural sitter. He spends time in the yard observing, playing with toys and sunbathing. Sometimes he will even make a crop circle for you. Troy has perfect house manners and tolerates regular grooming like teeth brushing and nail clippings. He is perfect for an active family with a yard and maybe another greyhound for company.
If you're interested in adopting either Jessenia or Troy, please talk with your adoption coordinator or complete our on line application here.
