Jarvis caught sight of the box and his eyes widened slightly as the elevator came to a stop on the ground floor. "I understand things are somewhat tense right now," he said carefully as he stepped away, one hand blocking the door for a moment so it wouldn’t shut before he could finish speaking. "And I am aware that it is hardly my place to speak."
"You’re family," Steve said, because it was no less than the truth. More a father to Tony than his own had ever been and in the nearly two and a half years Steve had lived in the house he’d become something of a father figure to Steve as well. "I mean, Bucky and Sharon stick their noses into my relationship every five minutes anyway."
"Mr Stark always thought very highly of your friends," Jarvis said. "Mr. Rogers, it may not be my place to say so but if you would indulge an old man’s request." He reached out with the hand that wasn’t blocking the door and set it on top of the battered little ring box. "Whatever other faults you may have found with Sir, please don’t hold this one against him."
The elevator chimed a warning and Jarvis pulled back, expression calm and properly professional as the door slid shut.
