Specifically relating to my latest post, but in general also: I feel like my attention span has gotten so bad these days in terms of actually finishing anything, to the point that the deflection/procrastination-projects get as silly as "builds a whole-ass 3D model instead of finishing the goddamn drawing because that's somehow easier than dealing with the perfectionism demon hovering over my shoulder when I draw these days"
(I think this why I'm trying to chase looser styles/play around with traditional media here and there again, since anything too precise starts to activate the Overthink Demon. I guess what I post is "oops! All sketches" anyway, but a lot of things still get overworked. Probably should start using timers again or something idk) Rarely do I actually "finish" models as well, which is generally why I don't post any (they are almost always studies/character reference models) but let's see if I can get around to making some Printable Little Guys this year, since frankly I find 3D a more comfortable medium to work in than outright painting/doing rendered-out stuff
Ramble post, but I'm always interested in the topic of "process" when it comes to art, and how struggles & limitations might actually help an individual find what their strengths really are too (or, just reveal areas that need more work. I DO want to finish a couple of the paintings in my WIP folder, but I also have accepted that it's not gonna be the natural medium for me ever) (I always try to include art in long text posts like this so they aren't as boring. Have a Banana Cat drawing I never uploaded. Also yes the printer HAS been added to my enclosure and it's great fun :> )
I suppose i could work this into that "what am I here to see" post.
1. Your penwork is phenomenal and you work that into mechanical designs, on top of that you make them fluid instead of rigid which is just *chef's kiss*. In short im here for your machine drawings
2. Peaches the Daemon Engine is precious (I have a newfound love for Daemon Engines since starting a personal project)
Hey there! Didn't mean to forget to respond to this LITERAL MONTHS LATER but I was working on a response drawing, got too detailed with it, and then forgotti. Classic. (gonna give it its own post in a bit pff) But yes glad you enjoy the Machine Friends! Bringing the mechanical "to life" is like my entire schtick, so yes... it can be tough to make mechanical things feel like they are moving and running around in a "natural" way so I try to work a lot of energy into my sketches... I'm super glad when people pick up on that, especially with the less obviously humanoid/animalistic (zoomorphic?) ones where such expression is tougher to work with! Anyway, more Peaches for you, and some more in a wee bit haa:
Hey just want to say I really love your style and I think your chaos terminators might be my favorite piece of fan art for them. You just made them look so sick!
I'm glad you like that one! The chaos termis are just super fun to draw. Here's another one for good measure:
I kinda follow my own whims regardless, but I'm also curious why people are here!
Also kind of apt that I was drawing Titans again while some peeps dug up old Titanfall art of mine! That's one thing I really love about tumblr tbh, I can be away for literal months and people still can dig up old art posts, pass them around, have fun with them, etc. I think this is super cool and something the more "viral" social media sites like Twitter or whatever totally lack - old stuff is just completely out of circulation! (Not to mention all the funny stuff people leave in the tags, bless)
Ive been wondering. Is your False Ravens art scans of ink and paper? The quality is really clean if so
Yes, most of that recent black & white art of them is scanned! I sometimes have to stitch a couple of pages together in photoshop because the scanner bed is juuust a bit smaller than the sketchbook paper size, and it has caught me off-guard enough times already ahah But usually any editing is really minor, levels/contrast so it looks like how it is IRL (pencil for example photographs poorly because of how reflective it is, so it usually needs a bit of a boost to look readable digitally)
I love your false ravens (your lineart is genuinely amazing), they give me the vibe of daemons formed from collectively emotions on "the beakies"in general, like a daemon using emotional nostalgia as a lure of sorts
Glad people seem to be liking 'em! They are a whole ton of fun (I'm having a blast doodling them, clearly) While that differs a lot from their actual origin/lore, I do appreciate that take! That could be an idea for a psyker/sorcerer character for them, one that takes on the shape of specific individuals from peoples' memories and using that as an additional manipulation tool, also an additional possible layer of "cloaking" aside from them already kinda being funky mimics pretending to be Very Normal. (Perhaps something about them coming across as more "real" or charismatic, since the average False Raven's disguise is "Normal to a Suspicious Degree")
