ジターバグ
I apologize for the shitty quality, but the original file was to big for tumblr so I used some shady website to make the photo smaller ;w;
Also the arms are terrible I’m really sorry. Please don’t look at the hands-
Oh yeah also I used the watercolor brush for once; I kinda like this technique.
(P.S if you haven’t already listened to “Jitter Bug” by Hachiya Nanashi ft. Hatsune Miku & MEIKO, you really should because it’s a bop)

Jitter Bug
The snow was trickling down outside the pharmacy, continuing to pile up on the city streets. If I was going to make it in time for my end of the day coffee, I should be heading out soon. As I start to clean up, little Ryuu emerges from behind the stacks of medicine. “Shirayuki, it’s getting late. Are you leaving soon?”
“I was just about to clean up for the night and head out. Do you need anything from me before I leave?” I ask as I continue to put away trays and medicines in their proper place.
“I’m good, just make sure to tell Obi I say hi when you see him.”
“Will do!” I say as I put away my last tray and start to head out for the night. It’s a bitter night, perfect for a warm latte after a long day of work. As I walk down the street, I begin to reminisce about the time I found my favorite café.
It’s a little place a few blocks from the pharmacy tucked in between two larger shops. I was walking home from work a few months back, and I saw there was a new shop open. Of course, my curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to check it out. Once I got to the shop itself, I saw it wasn’t a shop but a café and despite not liking coffee much I decided to try it. It was a small place with only a few tables and chairs, but it felt comfortable and welcoming. While I was taking in the new space around me a voice called out, “Welcome to the Jitter Bug!” I turned towards the voice to find a barista smiling at me. “Can I get you anything, miss?”
“Yes, I’d love a large vanilla latte.” I told him as I walked closer to the register. “Also, could I get one of those delicious looking chocolate chip muffins?”
“Sure, coming right up for you.” He told me and started to make my drink and grab my muffin. I waited for him to finish and I paid for my coffee and muffin. As I was leaving the café the barista called out, “Have a good night, miss!” and gave me a radiant smile.
“You too!” I smiled back at the barista and headed home for the night. It was my first time going to Jitter Bug, but it would not be my last. That little café has become a standard stop after work for me, both because of the coffee and the barista. His name is Obi and he’s become a staple in my life these days. After a few stops in the café, we started talking and I would stay later and later just to keep chatting with him. Now we spend almost every night after I get off work chatting until he closes up shop. Stumbling into Jitter Bug that night led me to the person I love, even if he doesn’t know how I feel or feel the same.
Walking into the café, I see that familiar crooked smile and golden eyes greet me. “Hello, miss! How’s little Ryuu?” He asked as he comes out from behind the counter.
“He’s good, he’s still busy with work but he says hi. How’s the best barista in town?” I ask him in return.
“I’m doing better now that you’re here. It’s been a busy day, so I haven’t had much time to stop and breathe. It’s finally almost closing time, so you’re just in time for the last drink of the night. What can I get for the lovely lady?” Obi asks as he grabs my hand and bows his head to delicately places a kiss on my knuckles.
I know he’s kidding but I can’t help the blush that starts spreading to my cheeks. I take my hand back and respond to his question, “Surprise me.”
“Okay, coming right up. Also, nice blush you got there, miss.” Obi teases as he heads back behind the counter to make my drink. I decide to take a seat while I await Obi’s creation and I glance over to see what he’s up to only to catch him looking at me. He doesn’t try to turn away, just keeps looking at me for a moment before getting back to his work. It just makes the receding blush rise on my face again. That was probably his intention, he just loves to tease me.
After he’s focused again, I look over to watch him work. The way Obi appears when he’s making drinks in the café is serious but in a loving and tender way. He loves what he does, and it shows when he’s carefully crafting the perfect drink for a customer. Sometimes I feel he takes extra care when making my drink, but it’s probably just wishful thinking. Either way, I love watching him make my drink every night.
Obi finishes my drink and brings it over to the table for me. It smells sweet, just the way I like it. I take a small sip and it’s delicious! “This taste amazing, you have to tell me what this is.”
“A barista never shares his secrets. I’m glad you like it though. I’m thinking of making it an actual menu drink, what do you think?” He asks.
“I think it’s a great idea! Do you already have a name chosen?” I ask because all of the drinks have special names. Obi likes to have fun making up names for the drinks, it’s one of his favorite things about having his own café.
He looks as me as if he’s thinking for a moment and he just says, “The Shirayuki.”
“Wait?!? You want to name it after me? Why?” I ask with intense curiosity.
“Well, it’s sweet, warm, and comforting like you. It took me awhile to get it just right, but it was worth it so see you love it so much.” He calmly says as if he didn’t just make my heart race at a ridiculous speed. It’s so sweet, but it gets my hopes up. He does this all the time without even realizing, but it’s my fault for reading into his actions. I’ve known forever that he’ll never be interested in me, but I can never seem to stop hoping for more.
While I’m lost in my own thoughts, Obi grabs my hand. I look up at him in confusion. “I know it may be sudden, but I’ve wanted to ask you for a long time now. Shirayuki, will you go out with me?” I think I stop breathing for a minute. By the time I start breathing again, Obi is staring at me with concern.
“I’m okay, you can stop looking at me like that. I’m just surprised, are you sure you want to go out with me?”
“Of course I’m sure, I wouldn’t have asked you otherwise. Are you going to give me an answer or am I going to have to keep waiting in suspense?”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to not answer, this just seems too good to be true. I would love to go out with you.” I look at those golden eyes and I know this is all I’ve ever wanted. I take the hand Obi has in his and intertwine our fingers. I finally got my happy ending.
Father Murphy: mild-mannered human cleric with way too much “holy water”; Agnes Blackwater: elf mage who is antisocial and lives in a bog with cats, and Jitter Bug (”Jitters”): the charismatic half-elf bard who is the son of candle makers.
