for the Jeanmarco Winter Solstice 2025 (Tier A Prompt: Scarf)
went to the grocery store the other day and there were some guys walking in who were wearing shorts. it was a low of -12 F (or -24 C). so that made me think about how when cold weather hits, jean would probably be that guy still wearing shorts out and about, while Marco is the one who bundles up and has a millions layers on. this is literally canon to me lol
It’s a VERY old piece of art so please, be nice ;-; fun facts: it takes place at the highest place in my hometown! On the left of the art (but can’t be seen!) stands the basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière !! And Sasha is eating a treat from my hometown, le cookie aux pralines roses!!!
It fits today’s prompt so have a lil repost hehe. I didn’t think I could take part in this event hosted by @jeanmarcosolstice because I’m very busy these days but I’m glad I could (re)post a thing even if it’s some very old piece haha. It was made in October 2021!!!
There was nobody Jean can trust more with telling about his stupid bet he pulled off without getting into trouble than his compassionate boyfriend.
So here we are: in the middle of a snowy day, inside the more heated bedroom of Jean Kirstein’s house, with the latter sitting up in his own bed and appears to have stress and sickness written all over his face.
On the opposite side, an aggravated yet confused boyfriend of his strictly grips onto the tray containing warm chicken soup accompanied by a glass of water, all while creating a stare down with him, like this is some form of a police interrogation. How long have they been at it with no words? No idea. Jean’s mind feels completely numb at this point, and either it’s due to his aching stomach or how scary the normally sweet Marco Bodt can be.
The latter’s fingers begin to tremble, forcing him to lay down the tray on the bedside table, and the words of his query out of his mouth.
He takes a breather to compose himself first. “Okay… Jean, you know I love you, and no matter what any kind of ridiculous situation you put yourself through, I can at least understand and try to help you resolve a better solution. But this?… this definitely goes far beyond my comprehension.”
Jean wishes to chuckle but is afraid it could get him to throw up again. “How long have you known me again? How is it that THIS is where you wanna draw a line?”
“I don’t know. How did you lead yourself to the conclusion that eating full on ice was a good idea?”
They pause. The bedridden boy stares once again into Marco’s stern eyes; intense yet display obvious concern too. Firstly does he mentally curse towards his own moron friends for informing Marco on why he’s even sick, as he previously hoped his boyfriend would believe he came down with a bug, but here is now and there’s no cheating out of it.
He can never lie to the love of his life anyway; it’d be like betraying those years of Marco’s loyalty.
“Alright, you win.” Jean sighs. “Okay, so you obviously know yesterday as the big snow day away from school, right?”
“Yes.” Marco says, less huffy than from a minute ago, so he’s clearly calmed down.
Jean quickly picks up on it and feels more confident to continue. “Yeah, we were all there at the public park, surrounded by thick lands of it. Heh, I remember all of us taking turns sledding down the big hill; while Connie and Sasha sled down the hills like maniacs, I think we were louder than them for once. You even held me down when we fell off at the end, and sure my ass felt frozen, hearing you laugh made it worth it. Soon after we lied underneath a tree and we-”
“Jean…” the impatient freckled one interrupts. “I admit it was fun but what does this have to do with you eating ice?”
Dammit. Looks like Jean’s attempt to lighten the current mood failed.
“Yeah, yeah, I was just getting to that.”
Before continuing from where he stopped, he sips a quickie from the glass of water left for him to clear his achy throat.
“So then I met up with Eren as you proceeded to help Armin with his snow fort; he challenged me to a snowball fight because of course he does, and we got stuck into a wave of bets right after. That dumbass had the balls to bet me into eating ice, and since there are no use for ice cubes this time of the year, I led myself to finding icicles by the park fountain instead.”
Not only does he feel like an idiot after explaining the story, but turning towards Marco shaking his own head makes him feel even dumber.
Jean can feel his insides swirling around sickly again and so gestures his hand into having the tray with the soup be brought towards him. Marco calmly agrees and hands it over to his lap. He probably be focussing on eating at the moment, but almost every second morphs into him checking on Marco’s expression, is he really that worried that his boyfriend would still be mad at him over a stupid bet? Yes, yes he is.
After wolfing down the whole thing, he wishes to break the ‘awkwardness’ between the two of them.
“Look, if ya wanna blame anyone, blame Jaeger. He’s the one who made that dumb bet in the first place.” He attempts to point the finger.
“Really? And who was the one who actually went along with it despite knowing it was a dumb move?” Marco retaliates.
This moment is the very one where the sickly boy is now lost for words to counter.
“Grr, okay. I get it, we were both idiots. But at least it was just a couple of icicles.”
He’s too busy trying to relax by lying back down onto his pillow that he doesn’t notice Marco shifting closer with a worried look in his eye. “Jean, I’ve read online that icicles can be full of certain particles which can be very lethal. You should consider yourself lucky that you’re not in a hospital right now.”
Jean meets his anxious boyfriend’s gaze with an honest realisation. No wonder he’s been very moody with him, as it’s normal for anyone to display their concerns with anger initially. Marco takes a minute to exhale again and takes away the tray from the bed to make some room for himself. Jean takes this time to rethink over the ordeal, warmly accepting Marco’s embrace in the process.
“So please try to reconsider before going ahead with ideas such as ridiculous bets next time, okay?” Marco requests, placing his head next to Jean’s shoulder.
“Yeah, deal.” The latter assure him, further doing so with a soft hand rubbing up on his back. “But with how I can be an idiot, I’ll need you there for me.”
Marco softly breaths out a giggle. “I guess so.”
“Now I’m just confused on how you fell for an idiot like me.”
