I’ve been a follower of Jihad The Roughneck MC since his group Third Sight (featuring producer Dufunk and DJ D-Styles from the legendary Invisibl Skratch Piklz) released “The Golden Shower Hour” back in the late 1990′s. I’m a fan of the creepy, I love the dark. I watched horror flicks and read Stephen King as a kid in the 1980′s. The 80′s felt dangerous, so does the voice of Jihad.
Third Sight are incredible. Wonderfully thematic concepts, production, scratches, vocal dexterity and what can only be described as: if a serial killer decided to rap instead… lyrical style. I mean that as a compliment.
“Juan Sequitur,” Jihad’s latest solo release has The Roughneck sounding a bit relaxed at first. As the music becomes more psychedelic, the mood solidifies. Jihad sounds more thoughtful, contemplative and less horny than on previous releases… but just as deliberate. Somehow dirty, even if it’s radio playable.
Hahaha.
At times he’s a demon, at times he’s the exorcist, he may be the wolf that ate mother goose, he even moonlights as a cop that’s very friendly with your main squeeze.
At times the vibe is California breezy, at times it’s 70′s New York grindhouse. A lot happens in a short amount of time, try and keep up, if not… that’s cool. This is a project that deserves repeat listens. Respect!
This isn’t music… it’s voodoo.
