The Angels — “Night Comes Early” (Sydney Opera House, New Year’s Eve 1979)
The Angels - ‘No Exit’
AC/DC Producer George Young, Brother of Angus and Malcolm, Dead at 70
George Young, the Easybeats co-founder who went on to produce his brothers in AC/DC, has died at 70.
No cause of death was given in a statement on AC/DC’s Facebook page, which announced Young’s death “with pain in our heart.”
”Without his help and guidance there would not have been an AC/DC,” the band, founded in 1973 by George’s brothers Angus and Malcolm, said. “As a musician, songwriter, producer, advisor and much, much more, you could not ask for a more dedicated and professional man.
”As a brother, you could not ask for a finer brother. For all he did and gave to us throughout his life, we will always remember him with gratitude and hold him close to our hearts.”
George Young was a co-founding member of the Australian band the Easybeats and co-author of songs such as “Friday on My Mind.” The Easybeats’ record label praised Young in a statement.
”A consummate songwriter, trailblazing producer, artist, mentor and extraordinary musician, George was above all else a gentleman who was unfailingly modest, charming, intelligent and loyal; a man with a wonderful sense of humour,” Albert Productions said.
John Brewster of Australian band the Angels took to Facebook and called George Young “the most inspirational person I've ever worked with and a real gentleman.
”I doubt that The Angels could have done it without his guidance and influence,” he said. “Alberts was a true family. We're blessed to have been a part of it and to have known him.”
Following the Easybeats’ 1969 split, the elder Young went on to produce other bands, most famously AC/DC. Angus Young continues to tour and record with the band; Malcolm retired for health reasons in 2014 and was replaced by nephew Stevie.
”George Young RIP What a huge loss for music,” Cold Chisel’s Jimmy Barnes tweeted. “A great songwriter, producer and a great human being.”
