The Last Seduction (John Dahl, 1994)
The Last Seduction (1994), dir. John Dahl
The first season of Iron Fist premiered on Netflix on March 17, 2017. It was the most criticized of the Netflix era Marvelverse (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders, and Punisher). Defenders of the series say season 2 improved and the score on Rotten Tomatos does reflect that. The series would run for 2 seasons of 23 episodes (13 in season 1 and 10 in season 2). The series had the first live action appearances of the comic book characters Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) and Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup). It also featured Misty Knight (Simone Missick) from Luke Cage and Claire Temple (Resario Dawson) who was the only character to appear across Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the Defenders. Veteran actor Clifton Davis would appear in 5 episodes as Lawrence Wilkins and Matrix trilogy star Carrie-Ann Moss would appear 3 times as Jeri Hogarth (a female version of the comic character Jeryn Hogarth). David Wenham from the Lord of the Rings franchise played Harold Meachum in 11 episodes. Fernando Chien who played Chen Wu 7 times in this series would return in the MCU as Gao Lei in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Sacha Dhawan who played Davos 15 times on the series would go on to play one of the regenerations of the Master on Doctor Who. ("Snow Gives Way", "Shadow Hawk Takes Flight", "Rolling Thunder Cannon Punch", "Eight Diagram Dragon Palm", "Under Leaf Pluck Lotus", "Immortal Emerges from Cave", "Felling Tree with Roots", "The Blessing of Many Fractures", "The Mistress of all Agonies", "Black Tiger Steals Heart", "Lead Horse Back to Stable", "Bar the Big Boss", "Dragon Plays with Fire", Iron Fist, Marvel TV Event)
The Last Seduction was released in theaters on 26 October 1994.
Steve Barancik's first screenplay (originally titled Buffalo Girls) was pitched as a "standard Skinemax" low-budget movie, but director John Dahl wanted to make a better movie than that.
According to Linda Fiorentino, after reading the script she drove 6 hours to meet Dahl in person, telling him, "John, you are not allowed to hire anyone but me for this film."
The Last Seduction received critical acclaim when it was released, especially Fiorentino's performance, with talk of her being nominated for an Academy Award. She was not eligible, however, as the film had originally been broadcast on HBO in July, before its theatrical release. She did receive an Independent Spirit Award, London Film Critics Award, and New York Film Critics Circle Award for her performance.
The film appeared on a number of "best of" lists for the year, including Chicago Sun-Times and The New York Times.
