S01 E04 The Hunt- John-Boy falls and twists his ankle; John Sr. is later attacked by a bear (no lasting effects)

S01 E06 The Star- Grandpa takes to his bed because he believes the titular meteorite is a sign of his impending death

S01 E11 The Literary Man- Jim-Bob gets appendicitis

S01 E12 The Dust Bowl Cousins- John-Boy is in a fight and gets a bloody lip

S01 E14 The Minstrel- John-Boy falls out of a tree and breaks his wrist, cast and sling for remainder of ep

S01 E20 The Deed- John-Boy is beaten and robbed

S01 E24-25 An Easter Story- Olivia is stricken with polio

S02 E02 The Odyssey- Ben has a fever

S02 E10-11 A Thanksgiving Story- John-Boy suffers a blow to the head and tries to hide the resulting blurred vision and dizziness; he's eventually diagnosed with a brain bleed and has to undergo a dangerous operation to fix it

S02 E16 The Awakening- Grandma has an inner ear infection which gives her hearing problems and causes her to faint and fall down the steps

S02 E17 The Honeymoon- John-Boy falls down a hillside and dislocates his shoulder; the girls get head colds

S02 E20 The Cradle- Olivia has a miscarriage

S03 E1-2 The Conflict- John-Boy is shot in the side near the end of the ep

S03 E12 The Job- Elizabeth falls from a bridge railing and is knocked unconscious

S03 E15 The Birthday- Grandpa has a heart attack

S03 E25 The Venture- Grandpa gets the flu; John Sr. is hospitalized with pneumonia

S04 E06 The Breakdown- Jason overworks himself and collapses from exhaustion; he's also in a fight and gets a black eye

S04 E18-19 The Burn Out- Erin is overcome by smoke and collapses during the titular fire (no lasting effects)

S05 E02 The Vigil- Grandma's appendix bursts, and she undergoes a dangerous operation

S05 E18 The Career Girl- Jason punches a guy to protect Erin and injures his hand

S06 E21-22 The Ordeal- Elizabeth takes a bad fall that leaves her paralyzed from the waist down, and she has to learn to walk again

S06 E23-24 The Return- John, Jason, Ben, and Jim-Bob are trapped in a mine collapse along with several other local men and slowly run out of air

S07 E05 The Obsession- Mary Ellen becomes addicted to amphetamines, later accidentally cuts herself on broken glass

S07 E16 The Parting- Olivia is diagnosed with TB

S07 E17 The Burden- A car falls on Jim-Bob (no lasting effects)

S08 E03 The Kinfolk- Jeffrey is revealed to have scars on his back from his father's abuse

S08 E10 The Waiting- John-Boy is finally located in the hospital after being MIA for months, but he's lost his memory and is only starting to slowly recover (Robert Wightman replaced Richard Thomas as John-Boy for the rest of the series)

S08 E14 The Fastidious Wife- Cindy faints from exhaustion while pregnant

S08 E20 The Last Straw- Jim-Bob breaks his arm, cast and sling for remainder of ep

S08 E22 The Furlough- John-Boy returns home at last, but keeps having flashbacks as he finally starts to remember the plane crash he was in

S09 E05 The Premonition- Ben is captured by the Japanese

S09 E21 The Hostage- Ben is knocked out by a door; Elizabeth is kidnapped at gunpoint and cuts her feet on sharp grass during an escape attempt

When I watched The Waltons as a kid, I would always make fun of John-Boy for staying up late to write after everyone went to bed. But you know what? I didn’t like writing back then. The only things I wrote were papers for school which felt like a chore. But now? As an adult and as an adult who enjoys writing, I get it now. And I take back everything I ever said about him😭

Of course he’d wait till late to write. During the day you have work (or school), distractions like music playing and/or the tv running. It’s also been scientifically proven that the brain’s creative juices flow best at night. And as a fanfic writer who does her best writing after my family’s gone to bed, I… I get it. I am so sorry for picking on you when I was a child, John-Boy🥴
